  1. Should Be Stronger (vocal)
  2. Should Be Stronger (instrumental)
  3. Big Tings
  4. How Long
Review: While Bristol's bass scene usually heralds the D&B and dubstep crews as the champions, there's a fine line of deeper, more experimental bass artists in the Wild West too. Forget Me Not are a great place to start... "Should Be Stronger" ignites with deep house panache and a Hercules & Love Affair style vocal before shuffle some hi-hats and a soaking wet sub make their way into the mix. "Big Tings" continues this garage flex with a Ramsey & Fen style four-to-the-floor workout, complete with a very authentic vocal sample. "How Long" brings us to a fittingly sophisticated conclusion thanks to swooning breakbeats and deep jazz pad work. Beautiful... You won't forget these dudes in a hurry.

She Won't Let EP (purple vinyl 12")
Cat: SUKI 016. Rel: 25 Aug 14
Bass
  1. She Won't Let
  2. Chicken Shop
  3. Initial
  4. Roots VIP
Review: Following his massive remix of Duke Dumont, Leeds-based Last Magpie continues to wear his heart on his sleeve with this beautiful four-piece that nods at so many pools of inspiration it's dizzying. The title track takes us back to the late 90s/early 2000s garage days via the Metalheadz express. Steppy, spacious and ominous, it's instant dark times! "Chicken Shop" takes us even further back to early Detroit and Chicago, all loop vocal shots and a kick that booms so hard it's almost toxic. "Initial" then soothes the blow with lush Apparat-style mournful soul. Finally we hit a serious VIP crescendo as his breakthrough murker "Roots" gets a rugged rudeboy amen polish. Heaviness, clarity, depth and a clear love for some of the best genres in the last 30 years... Last Magpie knows his stuff.

Temper EP (clear vinyl 12")
Cat: SUKI 014. Rel: 03 Mar 14
Bass
  1. Temper
  2. Fiercely Pretty
  3. Feel Ha
  4. 1000 Snares
Review: Emergent London duo, Mounter & Mifi open their Losing Suki account with a telling manifesto for their self styled 'Analog Rave Music' which previously saw a worthy outing the Save You Records imprint. Those partial to a bit of rude garage will delight in the heavy stepper "Temper" where jagged basslines and loose 2 step rhythms clash with jacked up beats and some decidedly strange vocal samples. "Fiercely Pretty" is indeed pretty fierce, and demonstrates Mounter & Mifi know how to craft a bassline that repeatedly jabs away at your gut, whilst "Feel Ha" is perhaps the rudest production here - all jump up drums tumbling over Reese style bass lines.
