  1. Fusion (Broadcast mix) (6:18)
Review: Future Times' occasional, single-sided 12" singles usually hit the spot, and this effort from the little-known Will DiMaggio is no different. Boasting the kind of spiraling jazz-funk synthesizer work that makes you want to close your eyes and succumb to the vibe, "Fusion (Broadcast Mix)" sounds like the kind of record that should be played at six in the morning, just as the sun is beginning to peep over the horizon. DiMaggio's magical synthesizer work takes centre stage, naturally, but is complimented perfectly by some rubbery slap bass, unfussy drum machine rhythms and just the right amount of blissful chords.

Experimental/Electronic
  1. Brass Mechanics (3:33)
  2. Tarahumara (3:07)
Review: Joe Williams' Motion Graphics was one of Andrew Field-Pickering's collaborators on the brilliant Lifted project (whose 1 album on PAN remains a modern day experimental, ambient-jazz classic), so it's little surprise to find him (or her) popping up on Future Times. "Brass Mechanic" is a brilliant chunk of head-spinning ambience, seemingly produced by painstakingly chopping up and rearranging clarinet, saxophone and synthesizer notes. Flip for "Traumhara", a similarly inclined chunk of manipulated, electronic ambient-jazz that pushes the (synthesized) clarinet lines to the fore. Both tracks are fiendishly experimental, but also undeniably ear pleasing. Watch out for the debut Motion Graphics LP coming on Domino if you like this 7".

  2. Juju & Jordash - "Soggy Bottom" (6:44)
  3. Max D - "Octopus" (2:49)
  4. Grapes & Isle O Man - "Up The Dubs (It Can't Rain Forever)" (feat The Wino Boys) (5:26)
  5. Raica - "Makmba" (3:55)
Review: Given that Future Times' second Vibe compilation originally landed back in 2011, it's perhaps unsurprising that the Washington D.C-based imprint has enough fresh material to stretch the third volume over three separate 12" singles. This first installment contains material from both label stalwarts - think Max D delivering the typically quirky "Octopus", and Juju & Jordash showing us their "Soggy Bottom" - and a trio of lesser-known names. They all predictably hit the spot in different ways, with OV's "Junk Funk" - a wonderful combination of crystalline melodies, loose-limbed drum machine work, ambient chords and new age intent - standing out. It is, though, all good - just like the other two EPs in the series.

Breakbeat
  1. Boost The Whip (I-95 mix) (7:01)
Review: Bumping ghetto house with a strong twang of mid 90s rawness, POI hits hard once again with this grainy roller. Drenched in dense pads, cries and chimes but arranged with more than enough space and pace for the industrial strength b-boy breakbeats to cut through, this can crossover into any set from any direction. Highly limited, too.
