  2. Argy - "How Late It Was, How Late" (5:05)
  3. Markus Fix - "Baroon" (7:19)
  4. Jimi Jules - "Euphrasia" (8:15)
Review: This fine EP gathers together four previously unreleased exclusives from the latest edition of Cocoon's Dots & Pearls series, which was mixed by Markus Fix. His contribution to the EP, "Baroon" - a kind of contemporary re-imagining of the original 1988 version of The KLF's "What Time Is Love" with extra TB303 acid lines - is undoubtedly one of the highlights, alongside the ethereal melodies and early morning fuzz of Argy's intoxicating "How Late It Was, How Late". Elsewhere, Christian Burkhardt peppers a rolling house groove with boisterous but blissful stabs on "Karambolage", and Jimi Jules serves up a loose and languid take on the foreboding, stretched-out Innervisions tech-house sound ("Euphrasia").

  12. Ricardo Tobar - "Red Light" (Lawrence remix)
Review: For the fourth installment of their Dots & Pearls mix series, in which a selected DJ gets busy with the label's back catalogue, Cocoon has enlisted the services of Frankfurt's Markus Fix. His mix is designed to showcase the melodious and atmospheric tech-house tracks lurking in the Cocoon vaults, and predictably does a fine job of fulfilling this remit. There are impressive contributions from the likes of Sven Vath, Tim Green and Chymera, plus a quartet of previously unreleased tracks. These are invariably excellent; check, for example, Fix's own "Baroon" - a kind of woozy 21st century riff on the '88 "Pure Trance" version of The KLF's "What Time Is Love" - and the ethereal melodies and early morning fuzz of Argy's "How Late It Was, How Late".

Review: The legend from Leipzig Daniel Stefanik helms the third instalment of Dots & Pearls for Frankfurt institution Cocoon. The long time affiliate of the Leipzig's famed Distillery club has been on the scene for over a decade, with releases on the likes of Moon Harbour and Mobilee so you can trust the DJ on this one.. For this edition (said to be a retrospective of sorts for the label) it will come in a continuous DJ mix with some brand new and unreleased tracks. Stefanik will also include four of his own edits including Guido Schneider & Andre Galluzzi's "Mario" and Luca Ballerini's "Impressions Of A Dawn" and "Orizzonte".

  11. Jacob Korn - "You Fill Me"
  12. Atelier Francesco - "All This Is For A Jump"
Review: Cocoon's alphabetically titled compilation series has reached the letter P. As usual, the long running German label has used the opportunity to gather together a swathe of previously unheard techno jams, which it claims are loaded with "power and purity". There are certainly plenty of notable highlights. Redshape impresses with the drowsy and melodious, but notably heavy, "The Choice", while Scottish veteran Alex Smoke drops some seriously off-kilter techno-fun in the shape of "Porridge". Josh Wink also offers a nod to his acid-obsessed past with the big room throb of "Buoyantly Grounded", while there's also a first Cocoon appearance for Dresden star Jacob Korn. His sparkling, slow burning "You Fill Me" is one of the collection's strongest moments.

Review: Cocoon's long-running, alphabetized compilation series has reached volume 17, represented by the letter Q. As usual, the majority of the tracks are exclusive, and the focus remains firmly on the dancefloor throughout. Sebastien Mullaert raises the temperature early on via the throbbing bass, darting synth parts and sampled chants of "Ode To Be", while Carlos Nilmmns serves up a chunk of evocative, string-laden tech-house beauty (the standout "Fragile"). As the collection progresses, the hits start coming at a furious rate, with Fort Romeau, Acid Pauli, John Tejada and Baba Stiltz all bringing their A-game.

  1. L'Esperanza (Ame reinterpretation)
  2. Harlequin: The Beauty & The Beast (Tuff City Kids remix)
Review: Papa Vath is 50 and what better way for the Cocoon boss to celebrate than open his archives and let the highly respected Ame and Tuff City Kids remix two Sven classics. The fact that many Cocoon fans these days were probably too young to remember "L'Esperanza" or "Harlequin: The Beauty & The Beast" at the time of their original release is an irony that won't be lost on Vath and perhaps those unfamiliar with his early '90s work will be moved to investigate after hearing these remixes. As you'd expect Ame are on suitably epic form with their take on "L'Esperanza" but don't gloss over Gerd Janson and Lauer's bumping refix of "The Beauty & The Beast" cos it's got some great space style fx amidst the thrusting throwback rave vibes.

Review: Given that the hedonistic Ibiza party season drew to a close a few months back, the release of Sven Vath's latest celebration of Cocoon's contribution to White Isle club culture seem strangely timed. What can't be argued with, though, is the quality of the German veteran's two-disc mix up. He begins the first disc wth a chunk of glistening ambient positivity by Harald Bjork, before whipping through a selection of tactile, occasionally heavily percussive, tech-house and atmospheric techno treats (check, in particular, the tracks from Alex & Digby, Omar-S, C-Rau and Pantha Du Prince). Vath heads straight for peak-time pastures on the second disc, seamlessly blending tougher, techno minded fare from the likes of Redshape, Slam, Floorplan, Bart Skills and Danny Daze.
