Review: There has been a steady stream of Nurse With Wound material released and reissued recently, with the fathomless creaks of Salt Marie Celeste still looming in our lower registers. Now Dirter are digging right back to the start to present a definitive version of the very first Nurse With Wound venture, originally recorded back in 1980 with a line-up of Steven Stapleton, Jim Thirlwell and William Bennett. Although it wasn't released until 10 years later, this amalgam of tape cut ups, sludge and noise make for a compelling time capsule on the various extremes of sonic exploration that were to come from all three. As you might well expect, there are additional tracks included here you would never have heard before, making this one for long time fans as well as those just beginning their NWW journey.

Review: It's incredible to think Blush is PVA's debut album. The South London band sound like they've been doing aggy, abrasive and regularly oddly beautiful cold synth wave stuff since it was invented, bringing their own edge and energy, influences and ideas to a table that - much as we love it - can often feel like it has become set in its ways. Then again, perhaps their breaking from some traditions is exactly what exposes their freshness.
Across 11 incredible sonic assaults we're dragged from pillar to post in the best way. 'Untethered' sounds like an alarm going off and panic setting in, opening the album without apology. 'Hero Man' takes things into a more rolling, wavy place, albeit wasp-in-jar keyboard lines underpin things. 'The Individual' slows us down and ups the nasty; spoken word style lyrics and grungy, grimy atmosphere making it a stand out. Meanwhile, 'Seven' drops just ahead of the finale for blissful, twisted but honest romance.

Review: Crimson Voyage is a collaboration between Yoshiko Sai and noise legend Jojo Hiroshige that marked Sai's first album in almost a quarter of a century. The whole thing was improvised and though on paper this is a coming together of two very different artists that you might think might not work, it does. The album landed in 2001 originally and is a beautifully dark, swirling ambient voyage that sees the underrated Japanese vocalists in top form. Her performance is exhilarating throughout and sits atop bursts of dark synth and fuzzy guitar distortions with wordless vocalisations conveying real feeling.

Review: The REPITCH label started back in 2011 with a 12" split three ways between its co-founders, Pasquale Ascione (Ascion), Davide Carbone (D. Carbone) and Nino Pedone (Shapednoise).
Some 11 years on, and the trio are still very much at the heart of the label's activities, celebrated here with the Dys Functional Electronic Music X compilation, highlighting not only their label's scope but also, they say, pointing a way forward for its future intentions. Review: If you like dense, challenging and austere industrial noise then read on: French sound curator and in situ artist Jerome Noetinger is a master of that who has proven himself over more than 30 albums. Sur Quelques Mondes Etranges is another one of his avant guard outings with electroacoustic designs at its core. The album is divided up into two sides of shorter tracks, then one 18-minute piece that takes up a whole side, and then one side of 21-second locked grooves for you to mix up however you see fit. The whole record was made in three days in a Hamburg studio and is a fine showcase of his ability to make palpable metal texture and real-world dirt out of sound waves.

Review: Big stadium sized synth wave stuff, those who are scared to tread anywhere near EDM and trance should be warned Minuit Machine are partial to a massive breakdown or two, or at least that's true of the original 'Don't Run From The Fire'. But none of that should be taken to mean there's anything distasteful here. It's actually very well-conceived stuff. Movie theme meets dance floor potential.
Not least on 'Lovers of the Night', which could easily be an anthem from a 2022 Lost Boys remake. Eerie, engaging, broken, trippy, and slightly sinister stuff that doesn't give up. Remix wise, things veer from the punchy uptempo big room techno-esque Rein version on the title number, to the more darkly hypnotic and - once you attune to the background harmony - quietly uplifting PARALLX take on 'Lovers of the Night', which take things close to Gatecrasher in 1999 at around 7AM territory.
