Obey (12")
Cat: BLCKTNL 029. Rel: 25 Jul 16
  1. Break (4:12)
  2. Shut Up (3:58)
Review: Smooth and Markoman's industrial strength Telekinesis machine returns to Blackout following last year's immense "Fight Club" EP. Across the two sides the duo showcasing their broadest skills; "Break" is a full-throttle neuro flip-out with multiple textures to the bass while "Shut Up" takes a much leaner approach with a stuttering rusty bassline that wouldn't go amiss in an Audio or Ed Rush set. Two different approaches; one jaw-dropping result.

Coeur De Palmier EP (hand-stamped 12")
Cat: DK O11. Rel: 25 Jul 16
  1. Rag Dabons - "C La Qui Arrive" (6:05)
  2. Nature Rhythm - "Ocean Drive" (6:16)
  3. Janeret - "Solstice" (6:08)
  4. Gabriel - "Atout Jaybacule" (6:46)
Review: True deep house once again emanating from Paris label D.KO Records, this time in various artist form. Full of debutants, Mickael Jeanneret is the veteran of this release and he turns in a liquid cut of floating drum and bass that combines the best of Kerri Chandler with LTJ Bukem in "Solstice". The Rag Dabons collaboration kicks off the compilation with a forever uplifting "C La Qui Arrive" while new name Nature Rhythm adds a two-step feel to "Ocean Drive". Gabriel, one half of Rag Dabons, goes dubby on "Atout Jaybacule" for those who love some Caribbean soul in their house music. Fresh breeze for the summer heat.

Bonesmen (12")
Cat: META 040. Rel: 25 Jul 16
  1. Bonesmen (5:17)
  2. In Circles (4:33)
Review: Zero T and Fierce on Metalheadz: Few words are required, we all know we're dealing with uncut premium kit here. "Bonesmen" is all about the dark tech groove, the way the drums switch with subtlety, the persistent sub and classic Headz FX rotate through the spectrum. "In Circles" flips the vibe with a lighter tone in the pads, a sweet deep dream atmosphere on the blink-and-miss breakdown and chirpier, looser, funkier drums. Two cuts, both true to the craft.

Lithograph (coloured vinyl 12")
Cat: WARM 044. Rel: 25 Jul 16
  1. Lithograph (5:37)
  2. Temples (5:49)
Review: Following their sterling tag teaming on Horizons earlier on this year, NFM and Concord Dawn collide once again for two agenda-setting cuts on Warm Comms. "Lithograph" cuts with a totally unique bass sound where two textures harmonise in minor key for an affect that really draws you in before Detroit-style synths pepper the vibe. "Temples", meanwhile, takes us deep inside the drums for a tribal assault that's all rhythm bar the occasional acid squiggle blues. Intense.

  12. It Must Be (4:16)
Review:  Exactly two years since their debut album Desire Paths, Shogun duo Technicolour & Komatic dish up their sophomore and it's even slicker and consistent than the first. With a finely honed signature that's unmistakeably their own, no other act do liquid in this way. From the cloud-bouncing floatation session of "Parallel" and raw string power of "Clockwise" right the way through to the final salvos of the soulful mourns of "Hold On A While" and the halfstep dreaminess of "It Must Be", every track here has a purpose without so much of a hit being chased or a vocal being added for feature's sake. Authentic and unashamedly deep.
