  1. Let's Hook Up (Neil Landstrumm remix) (4:38)
  2. Let's Hook Up (Luke Vibert remix) (4:47)
Review: Rewind to 2013, Deft hurls us into a sea of feels with Om'Mas Keith as "Let's Hook Up" soothes with 23rd century soul. Trappy, R&B, cracked digital ice, it still sounds like nothing else. As do these limited remixes: longstanding left-side techno experimenter Neil Landstrumm taps into his innermost cosmic ghetto-tech psyche while Vibert goes back to papa-punching Plug jungle roots. Both add new dimensions to a modern day classic. Grab them while you can.

  1. Sykura (6:09)
  2. Assemble (5:19)
Review: Jay Fairbrass aka J. Kenzo has had a steady succession of great releases on his own, Kent based Soul Shakerz imprint and Artikal, which he runs with Mosaix. Not to mention several EPs and an album for dubstep pioneers Tempa in addition to appearing on d:Bridge's Exit and Roska's Kicks and Snares. "Sykura" is by now one of several releases thus far for Doc Scott's respected 31 Records. The track's immaculately programmed breaks accompanying an almost cinematic and suspense filled atmosphere are reminiscent of classic Photek or Optical from the mid to late noughties. On the flip is "Assemble", a more straight ahead techstep stomper that attacks you head on with stealth measure; this one too is reminiscent of classic sounds: in this case Ed Rush & Optical.

AMENIZER 002 (limited 12")
Cat: AMENIZER 002. Rel: 28 Nov 16
  1. Adrenaline (6:54)
  2. Track 2 (7:20)
  3. Warrior Sound (6:54)
Review: Longstanding break carver Nolige blinds us with more of his signature drum science as he takes on the second Amenizer release for Skitty's Foundation X. "Adrenaline" is a sinewy shakedown with a Virus-style lead line but No U-Turn style beats while "Warrior Sound" flexes back to the Blue Note with its icy pads and paranoid textures but Telepathy with its bruked-out amen jungle swing. As with the previous Amenizer, there's an unknown quantity on offer as "Track 2" plays guess who with some serious drumfunk chaos. Foundation X don't mess around.

  2. Early Evolution (feat Ulterior Motive) (6:28)
  3. 2 On Each Side (4:49)
  4. Expliciticity (feat Om Unit) (5:30)
Review: Released the same week as DLR's album Dreamland, DLR and Mako's Onemind project finally gets its official debut. Introduced by Goldie on Friction's Radio 1 show over a year ago, the wait for this echoes of the dubplate culture that's clearly inspired the project: icy Bluenote atmospherics, big wavy bass textures, swaggering trooper drums are all keynotes as we jostle among the re-futurised 92 tones on "Skin Dem", swathe through the cosmic paranoid fumes of "Early Evolution", skip amid the gliding synths on "2 On Each Side" and stumble blindly through the murky drums and rusty fog of the brilliantly titled Om Unit collabo "Expliciticity". Open your mind.

Numbers EP (12")
Cat: ONEF 003. Rel: 28 Nov 16
  1. The Raven (5:00)
  2. Drifting (5:32)
  3. Inside Your Love (5:19)
  4. Numbers (feat Benabu) (4:13)
Review: Six months deep and already onto his third 1985 release, Perez takes us back to his roots with a sublime selection of subtle work-outs; "The Raven" persists with a rattling percussive riff and droning bassline, "Drifting" swishes and sways with a slinky two-step, yearning atmospheres and lingering keys while "Inside Your Love" is a pneumatic funk trip into two-step soul. Finally "Numbers" turns the lights down with purring, naked soul. Beautiful.

Heresy (12")
Cat: BLCKTNL 033. Rel: 28 Nov 16
  1. Pythius & Black Sun Empire - "Heresy" (4:33)
  2. Pythius & Neonlight - "Tarkin" (5:03)
Review: Upon signing to Dutch D&B super-label Blackout, Utrecht producer Pythius decided that he wanted to work with some of the label's other artists. The fruits of his labours can be heard on Heresy. This 12" contains two tracks from the full digital EP, beginning with "Heresy" itself, a hook-up wth Black Sun Empire containing dreamy, cascading melodies, sharp, trance-like synths and, naturally, bombastic drum & bass rhythms. On the flip you'll find a typically large co-production with Neonlight, "Tarkin". This boasts all the roughneck energy of early jungle, with the addition of rowdy 21st century electronics and mind-bending electro flourishes.

The Traveller EP

Cat: METHXX 014. Rel: 28 Nov 16
  1. Thru My Soul (feat Steo) (4:57)
  2. The Traveller (6:23)
  3. Reap What You Sow (feat McLeod) (5:33)
Review: More often spotted cooking up sickness stews with McLeod, Villem tag teams with Belgian deepsmith Phase. The result is every bit as spotless, crisp and alluring as you want it to be. Soulful but barbed with the right balance of darkness, each cut trembles but punches: Steo adds his distinctive soul to "Thru My Soul" giving it an emotional electricity while "The Traveller" soothes with K&D era pads before dropping into a Break-style elastic bass groove. Immense.

  13. Mr Frenkie - "Attract" (4:00)
  14. Ivy Lab - "Kalimba (Shorty Bend It Over)" (4:47)
Review: Delivered a year after Ivy Lab's inaugural volume, the trio's frontier-beat stable supersizes once again with a full crew ensemble: label regulars such as Deft, Shield, Havelock and Ivy Lab themselves are joined by infamous halftime murkers Fixate, Mr Frenkie, Sinistarr as we gear up for another futurist exploration of beats, space and bass. Highlights can be found on every track including the seasick swoons of Sinistarr's "#Accidental Deathing", Havelock's gully-galvanised juke stepper "Badbwoysound" and the tumbling, cascading almost drunken drum arrangement of Phazz's "Caution". Welcome to the future.
