  1. Bright Moments (5:40)
  2. Spirit Boogie (5:25)
  3. Deep Mantra (6:05)
Review: Bristol beat man Admin had a fine 2015, racking up releases on Sleazy Beats Recordings, Boogie Cafe and Banoffee Pies. By the sounds of this deliciously sunny 12" for the mighty Omena imprint, Admin is set to continue this rich vein of dancefloor satisfying form. "Bright Moments" sets the tone, veering off down a blissful jazz funk path where you can't tell what is sampled and what is being played live. Face down, the title cut is the one that DJs will pull for most thanks to the more pronounced groove, instrumentation and expert fx usage - what a sax sample! "Deep Mantra" closes out on a mid-tempo vibe, and has set closer written all over it. In a word: blinding!

  1. Everybody Wants To (4:38)
  2. Everybody Wants To (12" disco dance mix) (6:58)
Review: Hot on the heels of the release of their brilliant debut album, Basar, Africaine 808 drop a fresh single. Intriguingly, "Everybody Wants To" is something of a departure from the polyrhythmic, global fusion style explored on Basar. Instead, it sees the Berlin-based duo explore the world of synthesizer-heavy space-funk. Of course, there's still plenty of Latin and African influences amongst the loose and organic percussion, but these seem to play second fiddle to the vocoder vocals, bustling bassline and intergalactic synthesizers that dominate. Of the two versions, it's the flipside 12" Disco Dance Mix that really hits the spot, with DJ Nomad and Dirk Leyers extending the groove and emphasizing the superb bassline for greater dancefloor enjoyment.

  3. MikeBurns - "Enyin" (5:27)
  4. MikeBurns - "This Ground" (4:04)
Review: Croatian crate diggers and disco doyens Legalize Lambada come correct with their second EP: Swedish Frisbee chucker Albion takes the lead with two contrasting slices: Like a big old furry beast, "Yetti" bears demonic vocal teeth but shows a much softer side through its instrumentation while "Into Infinity" is, as its name suggests, pure cosmicity. Flip for a trip to Austria with Mike Burns as we're treated to early '80s European disco, "Enyin," and a bumper-to-bumper yacht hymn "This Ground". Lambada licking good. So good, in fact, it has to be illegal.

  4. Weekend (An M&M mix - accapella) (3:07)
Review: Originally written by Leroy Burgess and James Calloway for Patrick Adams' Phreek, iconic NYC disco boogie gem "The Weekend" enjoyed a Class Action re-up in 1983 with two bonafide mixing titans at the controls; M&M and Larry Levan. The former was all about the big synth gloss and a really broad groove while Levan gave it a serious DJ twist with a two minute intro that really broken down each element. Party time.

Cat: FT 028. Rel: 02 May 16
  1. Fusion (Broadcast mix) (6:18)
Review: Future Times' occasional, single-sided 12" singles usually hit the spot, and this effort from the little-known Will DiMaggio is no different. Boasting the kind of spiraling jazz-funk synthesizer work that makes you want to close your eyes and succumb to the vibe, "Fusion (Broadcast Mix)" sounds like the kind of record that should be played at six in the morning, just as the sun is beginning to peep over the horizon. DiMaggio's magical synthesizer work takes centre stage, naturally, but is complimented perfectly by some rubbery slap bass, unfussy drum machine rhythms and just the right amount of blissful chords.

  1. Go Bang! #5 (Francois K mix) (7:37)
  2. Go Bang ! (Walter Gibbons unreleased mix) (12:27)
Played by: I Love Disco!
Review: Arthur Russell in his early 80s post-rock, far-out outfit Dinosaur L, "Go Bang #5" featured on the band's one and only album 24-24. According to legend Francois was asked to create a dancefloor version as the album version was a little too far-out for the floor. Naturally he delivered while paying total respect to frenetic, leftside thinking of the original with elements, textures and instrumental devices flying in from all sides. Another outright disco legend appears on the B: Walter Gibbons applies a leaner twist that gradually builds into bad trip wooziness before letting loose with an epic percussive section. 35 years deep and this still bangs.

Never before released on 12", BBE have added both parts of the original jam: part one's story is all about the party while part two remind us how mean the streets of Brooklyn were back in 77.

Review: Macadam Mambo musclemen Sacha Mambo and Guillaume Des Bois take the reins for this one: covering the whole groove gamut we ignite with a straight-up European disco stomper ("Magic Disco") and climax with a dense, trippy, psychedelic funk piece textures with great groans and dizzying instrumentation ("Darling You're Erotic") In between we hit leftfield Spanish boogie on "Boys & Boys" and deliciously swooning slice of harmonic disco pop "Lady Samba". Each track more obscure than the last, this sums up why Macadam Mambo have developed their current spotless reputation.

  1. Love (3:40)
  2. I Wanna Talk To You About Loving Me (4:25)
Review: Never before released, Sigher's Super Disco Edits have saved two more stunning disco soul cuts from perishing on the reels: Mel's credentials include a lengthy stint at Motown penning songs from The Four Tops and Marvin Gaye while Mighty Fire comprised players from the likes of Stevie Wonder's band and the live band for Motown 25 (during which Michael Jackson first performed the Moonwalk) Both cuts here showcase those heavyweight stripes - "Love" taking a more disco twist while "I Wanna Talk To You About Loving Me" providing raw, soul-drenched end-of-night emotion - it's criminal to think they may have never seen the light of day.

Review: The Wah Wah 45s label is responsible for rescuing of the work of long forgotten Canadian/Haitian pianist, Henri-Pierre Noel. Both his 1979 debut Piano and its early 80s follow-up One More Step have been rediscovered and repressed by the label, and here we get a selection of cuts from the latter all reworked by the French producer The Reflex. There are four killer reworks here - the pumped up Afro-disco belter, "Funky Spider Dance", the boogie-up clavinet heavy take on "A Fifth Of Beethoven", the ramshackle island grooves of "Back Home...Sweet Home" and toughened up raw funk of "Diskette". Class.

Review: The experimental partnership between Mark E and Stuart Hobbs (who met and hatched this plan, as Leng legend would have it, at the school gates waiting for their daughters to come out of class), Quarry Hallow is an exercise in vintage kit and straight up formula-free cosmic jamming. Only savouring the first takes, when the ideas are still fresh and rough and exciting, this is the result; a fuzzy, free-spirited, collection of psychedelic jams that meander and stroll unhurried and unlimited from the Amazonian synth pads of "The Path Of Tranquility" to the luscious swoons of "Long Slide". Let's hope there are plenty more to come.

Review: Over the years, Red Rack'Em has been consistently associated to the very best in disco and house music, and having come through the ranks alongside the likes of Todd Terje and Prins Thomas, he's been killing it since day one. This week, he's here to inaugurate the new Nettles label with three solid, club-prone nuggets that'll rock you good n' propah. The awesome "Bill George" is a robotic, chopped-up disco slinger boasting a fiery groove and an inimitable production finish, "Timm" is a deeper, more mental machine made cut that verges on the Balearic end of the spectrum, whereas "Transfer List" is a funked-out, laid-back vintage banger that is hummable from the very first kick drum, right to the very end. Recommended gear.

Finally the vinyl's arrived with four of the many highlights all pressed to vinyl and sounding all the richer for it. Highlights among these highlights include the dubby rumbles of Saine's "You Can Count On Me", the velvet funk chugs of "Singapore Sling", the undeniable Cathy Denisisms of Robjamweb's "You Know How" and the soft focus mid tempo synth sleaze of "Chief Inspector".

Review: The husband/wife songwriting powerhouse that gave us most of Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's 60s hits and the lion's share of Diana Ross's early material, Nickolas and Valerie Simpson launched their own recording career in the early 70s that lasted well into the 90s. Much of the sharpest and most prolific output during this second chapter of their 40 year career was between 1973 and 1981, which is displayed right here on this limited Record Store Day gatefold vinyl. From the glam boogie struts of "Nobody Knows" to the slap bass 80s funk of "Love Don't Make It Right", their dynamic partnership - with Ashford's flexible falsetto and Valerie's gutsy Turnerisms - is truly one of a kind and has aged incredibly well.

Review: If Music duo Jean-Claude Thompson and Adrian Magrys head up this fine six-track forage through the '70s and '80s archives of Eastern Europe. Stylistically, there doesn't seem to be an over-riding theme, it plays out more like a diverse selection of archival cuts spanning Poland, Hungary, Russia and Slovakia that will delight the more adventurous dancefloors. Thus you get infectious Polish disco grooves from Wojciech Karolak and Andrzej Korzyn?ski nestled alongside the break-laden jazz bustle of "Song For Ewa" of the Polski Jazz Ensemble. Similar styles abound with Russian-born "Prince Igor" Yahilevich and Hungary's Binder Quintet, whilst Alojz Bouda delivers our personal favourite in the shape of "Random," a suitably-titled oddball synth banger that originates from the Slovakian's 1980 album Synthesizer Sound

  8. Blaus (feat Maffalda) (4:18)
Review: Cosmic-minded Brazilians get busy with Razor N Tape for Record Store Day with an artistically presented eight track collection of native edits and originals. Charming from the off-beat funk of "7 8 E 1", we're soon hammered by the steady stamps of "Botoque", massaged by the come-to-bed soul of "Formula 1" and whipped into a shamanistic frenzy by the percussion-fuelled "E Um Barato". Complete with a cheeky little 7" brother - that features the acid slapping Latin club smasher "Margarida" and the ghetto-busting funk of "Blaus" - these are the type of packages RSD was invented for. Party time.

Review: This collection's been crying out for a reissue for years. Originally compiled and released in 1999, this collection of Larry's mixes captures not only the unique moment in musical time that was the Paradise Garage, but also the wonderfully widescreen melting pot of Larry's sets and musical direction. From the tipped out psychedelia of "Serious Sirius Space Party" to the iconic struts and confidence of "Don't Make Me Wait" to the hypnotic percussive magic of "Let's Go Dancing'", Levan's status as a true innovator will never, ever budge. If these cuts aren't in your collection yet now is the perfect opportunity.

Review: A limit vinyl edition version of the recent 22-track album for Record Store Day: nine of Larry's finest extensions represent his creative breadth, studio ingenuity and real nose for the dancefloor and nascent mixing culture. From the dynamic, slinky almost cat-like treatment of Man Friday's "Love Honey, Love Heartache" to the big dubby reverbs, cosmic textures and carnal percussion on David Joseph's "You Can't Hide (Your Love From Me)" by way of the restrained, teasing playfulness of his take on Grace Jones, Levan's full vision, influence and innovation is celebrated beautifully. There are few cases when the word genius can literally be applied, but in Larry's case it really can.

Review: This really doesn't need any introduction does it? Arthur Russell's infamous and seminal Loose Joints compilation originally compiled back in 2013 gets a vinyl re-issue by West End on Record Store Day 2016. Yes, his undisputed disco anthem of ever "Is It All Over My Face (original 12" version)" indeed appears, not to mention the unreleased original female vocal version plus the full length and Larry Levan versions. If that was not enough, we've got three versions of "Pop Your Funk" and another three of "Tell You Today". Get your hands on a copy of this before it's too late!

Review: Having only launched in 2015, no one was expecting DDD to lay out a Record Store Day bounty quite so soon. But boy are we glad they have. 500 copies on 180g triple vinyl from some of the nu disco and proper deep house scene's most respected and exciting individuals, it's a beautifully restrained collection of never-to-be-released-again grooves that's built to last. From the swooning Moodymannisms of MyStep's "Get Over" to the jazzy sprinkles and lighter footed filtered flavour of M Ono's "Little Fat Sparrow", these tracks will never tire. Jump on them before it's too late.
