  4. Things Will Come Your Way (6:28)
Review: Portuguese Munich Machine and edit king Alkalino delivers Wall Of Fame's first solo release with four tasteful reworks. On the A side, the Audaz main man serves up the '70s disco/rock fusion of "What To Do" and the uplifting soul heaven of "Can't Take It No More". On the flip is the funky disco fusion of "Lover Is Back" (channelling the heyday of The Big Apple way back when!) meanwhile "Things Will Come Your Way" offers up some sexy latin/bossa vibes. After a lengthy catalogue of releases available exclusively on Juno Download, we're happy to finally see of this guys efforts on wax!

Review: Having found a renewed vigour with his Breach alias, Ben Westbeech has been ripping it up with his run of singles over the past few years, and now !K7 have snapped him up for the latest installment in the still-trucking DJ Kicks series that shows just how deeply rooted in house music the long-serving producer is. With the double-pack vinyl edition packing in full versions of many of the standout tracks from the mix, you can get treated to the anthemic vocal tones of Pedestrian, the heartfelt garage tones of Cassio Kohl, the fist shaking grooves of Detroit Swindle and in something of a curveball move, the ethereal electro of Dopplereffekt. For the most part it's direct and soulful house music as you would expect from a man of Ben's pedigree.

Review: Brooklyn label Razor N Tape is becoming increasingly well regarded in the edit community, returning here with their tenth release and it's an introduction for newcomer Caserta. Those who scour Soundcloud on the reg will be familiar with Boston-based Caserta who's been throwing up examples of his edit expertise on the orange and white place for the past year. Six tracks deep, the Dynamics EP shows Caserta's style incorporates thumping sample-laden hip-hop grooves, nu disco and bumping old-school house. Furthermore there's a deftness to his touch on cuts such as "Nobody Believed" and "All My Dreams" that sets Caserta apart.

  2. The Vision (8:04)
Review: Vinyl only, limited numbers: Masterworks launch a brand new 10" series, and they're doing it in style as rising French disco doyen Closed Paradise lays down two powerful sample-based grooves. "Your Love I'm Gonna Take" slaps with a sleazy bassline, rushing sound FX and textures and teasing snippets of the original source vocal. "The Vision" takes a loopier twist with a pristine guitar line that opens out with every 16 to reveal more and more. Soulful, timeless and stupendously funky. Grab it while you can.

Review: Munchies anyone? Dusty Donuts add a little smoky soul to proceedings with two cruise control slow-jams. Keni Burke's "Rising To The Top" gets a little twist and extension, adding the smouldering allure of the original, while Rick James' emphatic green homage "Mary Jane" takes a few hits and settles into a warm sedate glowing groove. Ideal sunset jams; Jim Sharp's delivered once again.

Review: ** REPRESS ** Ever since JD Twitch rebooted Optimo Music, it's been the irregular transmissions from Glasgow act Golden Teacher that has hit the spot each and every time. The amalgamation of two diverse bands from the city -noise punk outfit Ultimate Thrush and analogue house duo Silk Cut, Golden Teacher first emerged on Optimo Music early last year with a pretty apt description of sounding like "Arthur Russell's Dinosaur L jamming with Bobby O, K Alexi Shelby, Liaisons Dangereuses and Imagination, with some voodoo drummers and Sly & Robbie". Steadily building up a reputation for some riotous live performances, Golden Teacher are a class above because they manage to distill this energy into their recorded output too. The Party People 12" features three such examples, with A Side cut "Love" the kind of production that sufferers of LCD Soundsystem withdrawal will embrace and cherish for years to come.

Review: Longstanding party partners in crime, New York's JKriv and The Disco Machine team up once again for another late night hip-shake session. Adeline Michele shouldn't be a stranger to you, too... She's worked with JKriv before on "Another Night" five years ago. The rasping Nightmoves electro feel to the synths is complemented by Kriv's own live bass while Adeline delicately purrs in the groove's well-placed spaces. Version-wise, the instrumental lets you hear all the little details while Dicky Trisco's take just plain knocks your head off with its obscenely overweight kicks. Impossible to give up.

Each cut shimmers and sparkles with synth majesty and glistening grooves as the Tust associate explores the true roots of sun-kissed Balearic bliss. "Rise" struts on an insistent synth riff while a web of sub-melodies twinkle in the background, "Goldline" slows things right down and infuses the current LA beat flavours with White Isle charm, "Savannas" is a dubbed out slo-mo stomper while "Balcony Life" closes the show with a tight texture of subtle euphoria. Truly beautiful.

Review: Two more sublime edits from the one and only Danny Krivit: "Happy Song" takes a Rare Earth sample and twists, carves and extends the Dickens out of it to hit near-shamanistic levels of drum heaven. "Erucu" is another consummate lesson in extension as Krivit takes the jaunty one-minute Jermain Jackson-produced score cut from Diana Ross-featured 1975 movie Mahogany and conjures it into a five minute exercise in groove magic. Edits don't get any better than this.

Review: From Leeds to London via Bristol; PBR Streetgang and X-Press 2 have collided to create two superb slabs of timeless late night house; "Cosine" is a prog-minded, star-gazing strutter that would have sounded impeccable if it were released at any stage in the last 20 years. "Key Free" is a more upbeat, tech-minded workout with jazzy intentions... The frenetic synth meanders underpinned by a really creepy, ominous synth bass tone that wouldn't have gone amiss on Garnier's F-Com back in the day. For remix pleasure, "Cosine" enjoys a psychedelic twist from Lauer and a crunchy, angular electro b-boy flip from Elastic Dreams man A Sagittariun. Powerful.

It doesn't get better than this. Coming with extended unreleased versions, the originals were collected from sought after EPs, an obscure compilation LP and fiishes with a never before released song - this is history. Review: You have to hand it to Psychemagik. The duo is renowned for their crate-digging skills, as showcased on the various must-have compilations they've curated for Leng and Eskimo Recordings. Those digging skills come to the fore on their re-edit releases, too. In truth, few would be able to name the source material for "Gotta Hold On Me", an undulating, dubbed-out chunk of peak-time disco-soul built around spacey synth-bass, rising horn lines - judiciously smothered in space echo - and impassioned male vocals. Flipside "Wildman" is equally impressive, with jammed out electric piano solos doing their best to raise the temperature in cahoots with a Dinosaur style leftfield disco groove.

Review: When it comes to breathing new life into well-known classics, there are few better than Frenchman-in-London The Reflex. Further proof of this assertion can be found on RWY, the third 12" on the producer's own Revision Records imprint. The title track sees him once again take his scalpel to a track by Michael Jackson, subtly building layering up and extending "Rock With You" (a feat made possible by his ability to get hold of multi-track parts to the material he re-edits). On the flip, he successfully tampers with Lionel Richie's end-of-night classic "All Night Long". Brilliantly, he removes much of the percussion during key vocal passages, which in turn gives subsequent choruses extra dancefloor oomph. Bravo, Sir.

Review: Pitting previously overlooked jams against the artists that first supported them in the dance is an inspired move, and so its no surprise that the Hell Yeah posse struck gold with these two remix commissions. Justin Vandervolgen has a whale of a time playing with Alexander Robotnick's "Undicidisco" track, maximizing on the warm and quirky melodic attributes of the Italian stallion and pushing the cut into ever more effervescent territory. Doc Martin meanwhile brings a sweaty clamour to Florian Meindl's "Flashmob" which results in delirious basslines, feverish vocal processing and some nasty synth rubs all placed with deadly accuracy to set the place on fire.

Review: REPRESS ALERT! Spearheaded by Stuart Leath, Emotional Rescue is a label committed to unearthing forgotten gems and giving them the exposure they richly deserve, with all releases officially licensed by the artist and remastered in full. This 12" sees two classic tracks by the world music collective Suns of Arqa take pride of place. Incorporating elements of raga and dub, "Brujo Magic" is a much more straightforward dancefloor number than its description would suggest, with its rolling bassline and vocoder effects fusing irresistibly with its psyche-rock styles. On the B-Side, "Ananta Snake Dance" combines traditional Indian percussion and harmonium with conventional drumming to create something completely unique. A strong start to what will no doubt be an indispensable label.

Familiar yet trippy, drop this at the right time to really hit your floor sideways. On the B Rulefinn goes solo with two more beauties "Just Try" is a pitched up soul joint that loops and loops with subtle momentum while "Let The OK Music Play" is percussive gold for all creative mixers out there.

Review: Just when you think that the well of obscure music from around the world has run dry, Analog Africa returns to put the record straight. Pop-Makossa shines a light on a glorious but largely overlooked period in the story of Cameroonian makossa, when local musicians began to replace funk and highlife influences with the rubbery bass of classic disco and the sparkling synth flourishes and drum machines of electrofunk. The resultant compilation, which apparently took eight years to produce, is packed full of brilliant cuts, from the heavily-electronic jauntiness of Pasteur Lappe's "Sanaga Calypso" and horn-totin' Highlife-disco of Emmaniel Kahe and Jeanette Kemogne's "Ye Medjuie", to the dense, organ-laden wig out that is Clement Djimogne's "Africa".
