Cat: CHOW 001. Rel: 24 Jul 17
  1. Panrico
  2. Clanger
  3. Fencin'
  4. Loa
Review: Manchester-based producer Anz makes her release debut here with some bold meditations on where bass music is at right now, making a strong case for how much talent is coming out of the her city at present. "Panrico" is a killer opener, rocking a set of steel drum licks before a mighty fine drop into globulous bass and frantic drums. "Clang" aligns itself with the underground grime scene, although the beats also sport a touch of B-more booty about them. "Fencin" makes the most of massive monosynth tones in a distinctly purple-tinted dubstep throwdown that would have Joker nodding his approval no doubt.

CPA
Cat: CPA 001. Rel: 12 Jun 17
  1. No Hype (feat Footsie) (3:19)
  2. In Check (4:12)
Review: Manchester bass-smith Compa takes control once again and launches his very own CPA imprint. Launching with demonstrative low-end clarity, both "No Hype" and "In Check" swagger with his signature trap/grime fusion. The former is a straight knock out thanks to some devil-dealing production and venom bars from General Footsie while the latter is a more brooding, dangerous construction laced with subtle orchestra drama. Only 500 of these have been pressed and Compa promises this will never see vinyl justice again. You know what to do.

Review: The ZX gunman returns! Here we find him filling in his signature space with vivid colours; Oriental scales cascade mesmerizingly across a series of synth textures, melodies and counter melodies while a stern bass hums with heavy voltage beneath. Kickless but kicking, it's another singular shot from the London shooter.

No Sleep (12")
Cat: HOTLINE 014. Rel: 24 Jul 17
  1. No Sleep (4:26)
  2. No Sleep (Peder Mannerfelt remix) (6:04)
Review: No sleep for the wicked; Bristol Bandulu man Hi5ghost adds to Hotline's blazing fire with this singular and somewhat brutal escapade. Trappy kicks, halloween humanizations, treacle subs and a wavy bass hook that weaves and bobs in a grimey style, this one hits the chest hard. Remix-wise Hodge's Swedish affiliate Pedder Mannerfelt adds a harder step and technoid energy to proceedings for added bite. Sweet dreams.

  2. Crystal Ember (3:11)
  3. Closa (3:07)
  4. Roll Out (3:23)
Review: Twwth & Desto welcome brand new act Inner to the fold by way of this crystalline quartet of 23rd century trap constructions. Swaggering on the cosmic side, there's a touch of the moody Hudsons to the opening track "Pain" before the beats step up into more of grime energy and textures melt into a wavy sensation on "Crystal Ember". Dig deeper for the fractured, clipped and sense-blurring "Closa" before a final 135 hurrah on the RL Grime meets Nick Warren spatial star-gazer. Sweet dreams.

The Beez (12")
Cat: NMGR 004. Rel: 24 Jul 17
  1. The Beez (4:34)
  2. Eye2Eye (5:09)
Review: Colourful vibrations as always with OG dark dreamweaver Kromestar as he returns to Nebula Music with two contrasting tales. "The Beez" lives up to its name with its buzzing, scratching bass that's sharp, spiky and as dangerous as an angry swarm. "Eye2Eye" rubs the lotion on the bee stings beastings with a much more mystical air and energy. Sustained piped chords, molten didgeridoo bass and a vibe that can levitate grown men, Kromestar always knows how to hit the spot.
