Review: This surprise debut album from German mystery men Anstam should be a cause for celebration. Having first made waves between 2007 and 2009 with a trio of bleak 12" singles that pitted contemporary grime and dubstep rhythms against classic and contemporary techno sounds, the fiercely secretive duo have released very little since. Dispel Dances continues that fruitful exploration of bass music's past and present, sneaking in Detroitian tech-jazz ("To All The Voices", "Handsome Talks The Talk") and hectic, next-level dubstep-jazz ("In The Bell Run") amidst the dubwise rhythms, basement atmospheres and smoky Berlin textures. The results are every bit as impressive as you'd expect.

Review: MASSIVE album alert! Can Chapter II possibly be as remarkable, ground-breaking and time defining as 2008's Diary Of An Afro Warrior? Only time will truly tell, but it's certainly an accomplished long player. From the moment the 80s electro hinting "Yellow" cuts through, it's evident Benga's having a lot of fun, applying a commendably subversive take on the dubstep sound he helped establish. From the strobe-sonics of his Kano collaboration "Forefather" to the skippy, breakbeat-powered rave homage "Higher" via the cinematic, emotional one-way ticket to Lighters Up Town "Waiting", Chapter II's been a long time coming... And it's been well worth the wait.

Review: Sam 'Binga' Simpson has always been a keen collaborator. In fact, his debut solo album - released under his previous Baobinga alias back in 2011 - was entitled Joint Ventures, and was entirely made up of co-productions. Wasted Days, the belated follow-up, is similarly minded, with the Bristol-based Hull exile being joined by an impressive roster of guest vocalists - Slick Don, TT The Artist, Rider Shafique and Warrior Queen amongst them - with old pals Om Unit and Chimpo also lending a hand. Impressive as it is, the genius of Wasted Days is in its' unique blend of bass music influences, with Simpson impressively fusing classic jungle, experimental D&B, footwork, ragga, dancehall, grime, IDM, smack-house and dubstep to create thrilling new hybrid workouts.

Review: Ever since first appearing on Bristol's Black Acre imprint back in 2009, Kwesi Darko's Blue Daisy project has been hard to pin down. 2011 debut album The Sunday Gift was a triumph of woozy downtempo fusion, with bustling bass music influences rubbing shoulders with folksy elements, ambient, trip-hop and experimental electronica. Following Black Acre's demise, Darko now finds himself on R&S, a label willing to let him follow his unique path. As a result, sophomore album Darker Than Blue is an even more adventurous and enjoyable set than its' predecessor, with Darko adding modern classical, beat poetry and hazy jazz influences to his already heady musical brew.

Review: It's been some six years since renowned misery guys Kevin Martin won plaudits for London Zoo, a typically dark, intense and aggressive full-length that showcased his unique ability to blend dubstep, grime, dancehall and dub techno textures into nightmarish new shapes. Angels & Devils, his belated follow-up, is intriguingly different. While the second half of the set is blessed with plenty of robust, floor-friendly riddims (each blessed with vocals from a range of impressive collaborators), the first half is an altogether more downbeat affair. In fact, it's these moments - the droning, dub-inflected ambience of "Pandi" and the bluesy, soundscape dub-soul of "Save Me" - that hit home hardest.

Review: It's been four long years since the release of Franz "Cupp Cake" Baker's full-length debut Garbage Pail Beats, a strange but endearing fusion of leftfield hip-hop and samples from records aimed at children. Musically he seems to have moved on much in that time, because follow-up Retina Waves, is a totally different beats. He's still concerned with the possibilities of MPC beat-making and off-kilter rhythms, but the sounds employed atop - glitchy samples, woozy chords and twinkling melodies - are far deeper and, we'd argue, more organic than previous outings. It's a combination that largely makes for an enthralling am entertaining set, two parts Flying Lotus and three parts Broadcast.

Review: Given his current status as a Twitter troll, producer-to-the-stars, Blackberry advocate and occasional globetrotting DJ, it's easy to forget that Diplo once made music that was both inspired and far-sighted. Certainly, you'll find few better albums of experimental, next level beat making than Wesley Pentz's 2004 full-length debut Florida. This 10th anniversary reissue, cunningly retitled F10rida and expanded to include an extra disc of previously unheard cuts, rarities and the Epistomology Suite EP, more than adequately proves this point. Loose, atmospheric, woozy, trippy and full to the brim with good ideas, the original album remains his best work to date - a unique and inspired mix of hip-hop, distinctive samples, fuzzy vocals, intriguing dancehall influences and stoned textures. Whether you own the original LP or not, this reissue should be an essential purchase.

Review: Birmingham-based Emalkay has been developing his floor friendly, dub wise take on dubstep for some time. Here he drops his debut full length album Eclipse, the first long player on popular dubstep imprint Dub Police. Like many of his previous 12"releases, it showcases a bold, brash and, at times, in-your-face take on dubstep that should find appeal amongst junglists. Certainly, D&B heads will enjoy the Baby D (yes, that Baby D) collaboration "Keep Moving On", which abandons wobbly, bro-step basslines in favour of vintage hardcore rhythms and big piano drops, and "Flesh & Bone", which races off on a classic ragga-jungle tip. Punishing stuff, all told.

Review: A hugely impressive debut here from French beatsmith Helixir. A richly textured, droning soundcsape is created in the introduction and this careful, lush vibe is maintained throughout Undivided. "Summertime" has the shimmering quirks of a Flaoting Points but on a more overtly dubsetp tip, while tracks like "Atlantis" bring to mind the muddy, compressed work of Actress. Such comparisons miss the point to an extent though, as Helixir has very much cultivated his own sound, which is at times, at times dark, but always fascinating and deeply rewarding. Listening from track one to the twinkling lullaby close of "I've (Never) Wanted To Hurt You" is a magical experience. Thoroughly recommended stuff.

Review: Mining his sizable back catalogue of tracks, Joker has called upon a host of producers to remix his work on no less than eight separate occasions, albeit staying within the realms of bass-weight business across the gamut of dubstep and its derivatives. Swindle adds some extra feist and flex into "Purple City", while Gemmy takes a dramatic stance on "Snake Eater". There are more light-hearted synth horn stabs at work on Trolley Snatcha's version of "Newham Generals", and Kromestar brings the cheekily swung noise on a bouncy version of "Tron". If this richly melodic corner of dubstep gets you swaying, then there's no valid reason to not delve into the purple goodness post haste.

Review: With the series of 12" s garnering ever more praise amongst dubstep purists, Keysound capitalise on the appreciation of the LHF collective and issue forth a whole album's worth of material under the appropriate title Keepers Of The Light. The reason the crew is heralded is not because of some stout insistence on making endless monochrome 2003 style dubstep, but because the vitality the genre poses at its best is evident throughout their output. There's a heavy focus on Indian classical samples in many of the tracks which harks back to Dusk & Blackdown's Margins Music, but really the whopping 26 track selection is pushing a brand of freshness in a half-step context which is all their own.

Review: Some two years on from their last outing, Diplo's Major Lazer outfit return with their third full-length. In many ways, the departure of founder member Dave 'Switch' Taylor a few years back has seen the project divert from its' roots as a tribute to dancehall culture (with, of course, a breakneck contemporary electro-house twist). So while the guest-heavy Peace Is A Mission is rooted in Jamaican culture, it's Diplo's scattergun, party-hearty production style that shines through. There are plenty of dancefloor bangers, of course - the punishing drums of "Blaze Up The Fire", intense "Roll The Bless" and autotune-heavy bounce of "Light It Up" - but these share CD space with tracks that variously doff a cap to R&B, trap and radio-friendly pop.

Review: Much has changed in the world of Nero since they delivered their 2005 debut 12" on Reformed. In recent years, they've largely abandoned the growling drum & bass with which they made their name, instead replacing it with a radio-friendly blend of loopy EDM, bass-heavy trap grooves, electro-influenced post-dubstep rhythms, trance-influenced riffs and woozy, contemporary pop vocals. It's perhaps unsurprising that this has made them big stars with chart credentials, and explains the undeniably big, accessible and car stereo-friendly sound of this sophomore set. Between II Worlds, then, is a very modern dance-pop album, and one that should sell by the skip-load.

Review: While his Numbers contemporaries Jackmaster and Hudson Mohawke have been courting international superstardom (the latter soundtracking Apple ads and working with Lil Wayne and Drake), Rustie has stayed true to his roots. This second full-length - the follow-up to acclaimed 2011 debut Glass Swords - proves that it was a wise strategy. Green Language is a storming set, delivering blends of crunk, wonk-hop, 8-bit electronica, grime and post-dubstep rhythms that bristle with intergalactic synths and glassy-eyed, late night swagger. Rustie has carved out a niche of his own that's increasingly hard to define, but one that guarantees thrilling, next-level music. Green Language proves that emphatically.

Review: To be honest, it's about time that Logan Sama had the space to compile his own series of mythical London club Fabric's, Fabriclive series. The grime DJ started his career back on the equally important Rinse FM back in 2002, and has been an important part of the club's development over the years that saw grime and dubstep blow up. At number 83 in the series, Sama drops a selection of tunes that are wholly representative of his DJ sets in Fabric's Room 1; the mix contains tunes by everyone from grime pioneer Wiley, to vocalist and producer JME, and a whole load of lesser known names that have kept the grime scene evolving. This is the real deal, there ain't not other like it around these days. Recommended.

Review: The much-lauded Jamie XX rework of Gil Scott-Heron's 2010 album I'm New Here finally arrives, and it's pretty darn good. In truth there's little quite as gorgeously ambitious as the strangely anthemic teaser single "NY Is Killing Me" (included here), but that doesn't stop it being an excellent listen. Not so much a set of remixes as a total reproduction, We're New Here places the veteran beat poet's distinctive vocals at the heart of a heady, other-worldly soup of eclectic beats (think dubstep, hip-hop and wonky house), booming basslines, sparkling house riffs, blissful melodies and paranoid late night atmospherics. A near perfect 33 minutes, all told.

Review: Unstoppable grime ambassador Skepta finally drops his long-awaited fourth album Konnichiwa and it's a complete shutdown. Reflecting his paradigm shift since 2011's Doin It Again, this is Skepta at the very peak of his game. The successful singles are all present and correct as are serious cameos from the like of Pharrell (the stripped back and funky "Numbers"), Novelist (the gritty freestyle-firing "Lyrics") and Wiley & Chip on the sense-blurring "Corn On The Curb". With co-production and cameos from his BBK compadre and brother JME, Skepta's stayed true to his foundations with every bar. Next level.
