  1. Onirik - "Third Landing"
  2. Voigtmann - "Side Boob Cooler"
  3. Tolga Fidan - "TER345"
  4. Pablo Tarno - "Elle Tea Jay"
Review: For the eighth audio missive on their quietly impressive Finest Hour imprint, Onirik and Pablo Tarno have invited Voigtmann and Tolga Fidan along for the ride. The result is a multi-artist EP that boasts a wealth of quality material. Onirik steps up first, adding jazzy keys and spacey electronics to a cut that sits somewhere between vintage Detroit techno and bustling Chicago deep house. Voigtmann's amusingly titled "Side Boob Cooler" is a lo-fi, analogue-rich bubbler, while Tolga Fidan's "TER345" is a near perfect fusion of Detroit techno sonics and analogue deep house dynamics. Before the EP draws to a close, Pablo Tarno steals the show with the hazy warmth, dubby electronics and sweeping melodies of "Elle Tea Jay", a fine chunk of analogue deep house/electro fusion.

  1. Kamby (version) (6:15)
  2. Saskwatch (version) (6:56)
Review: Last year's first outing from the Tiff's Joint label - a gleeful, hard-to-pigeonhole fusion of global musical styles and contemporary dancefloor chops - has naturally raised expectations ahead of this second 12". This one comes from Deoke, a previously unheralded producer keen to present us with his Kudu Fantasy Versions. On A-side "Kamby" he smartly underpins loose and vibrant South American hand percussion with the locked-in pulse of drum machine rhythms, throwing trippy electronics, rich Afrobeat bass and tropical sounds on top. While impressive, it's nowhere near as overwhelmingly positive as B-side "Saskwatch", where undulating synthesizer lines, jazzy guitar flourishes and rush-inducing chords wrap themselves around a killer, densely layered Afro-house groove.

Review: Taken from his singular and soul arresting second album A Thousand Skies come three on-point floor-fired remixes. Each keeping the original polyrhythmic foundation, Medlar adds a chug and hypnotic percussion roll to "Ar Raqis" while "Hope" enjoys two reversions: Paleman's stark voodoo workout and a lolloping loose-legged steel drum slapping future Afrofunk mix from Japanese scientist Jun Kamoda.

  4. What Can I Say (2:27)
Review: Given his love of dusty sample manipulation, obscure source material, hazy deep house grooves and jazzy hip-hop beats, it's perhaps unsurprising that Robert "Cuthead" Arnold is on Mad Mats and Tooli's radar. Arnold is predictably in fine form on this first outing for the duo's Local Talk label. Fuck That Shit is packed full of highlights, not least the bumping title track, where cut-up hip-hop vocal samples ride a bustling, bumping, snare-heavy rhythm track. Also impressive is the similarly minded "Get Down" and "Potato Express", which is warm, jazzy, positive and laden with tasty jazz-funk, soul and disco samples. As usual, he rounds things off with a dash of blazed, Dilla-esque MPC abuse, in this case instrumental hip-hop shuffler "What Can I Say".

  3. Aula (6:38)
  4. Aula (Black Spuma mix) (6:22)
Review: Roam Recordings out of San Francisco have been at it since the early noughties releasing great stuff by the likes of local heroes Justin Martin and Demarkus Lewis through to Rhythm Plate and even Tone Of Arc or Heretic in recent times. Next up is Luca Roccatagliati a legendary Italian DJ, musician and producer who had collborated with Daniele Baldelli and Dimitri From Paris over the years. On this nice EP he serves up "Maccheroni" a deep and semi-balaric acid house groove, but it's all about Eric "Dr. Dunks' Duncan's tough rework which really works that 303 acid into something that bit more hearty. On the flip "Aura" is yet more of the same but the remix by Black Spuma (comprised of Gerd Janson and Fabrizio Mammarella) is the real winner here on this sleek, neon-lit house anthem for retroverts.

#8 (12")
Cat: EBEAMZ 008. Rel: 01 May 17
  1. DJ Seinfeld - "Airing Of Grievances" (4:25)
  2. M44K - "MYSTVIB" (edit) (5:34)
Review: The E-Beamz imprint is primarily known for two things: silly, tongue-in-cheek production aliases (think DJ Windows XP, DJ Boring and DJ Longdick, for starters) and seriously dusty, retro-futurist, lo-fi club tracks. This eight release naturally ticks both of those boxes. The A-side is helmed by DJ Seinfeld, whose "Airing of Grievances" offers a perfect fusion of jungle style sub-bass, snappy, house-tempo jazz breaks and fluttering, deep house motifs. It's woozy and picturesque, but also grimy and ludicrously bass-heavy. On the flipside, M44K serves up something rather more wavy and loved-up: a crunchy house re-make of a loved-up, head-in-the-clouds blue-eyed soul number that pits sensual elements from the original source material against bombastic, club-ready drum machine hits.

  4. DJ Groov - "Energy Ensemble" (4:33)
  5. Yem Gel - "Avarija Valley Rect" (3:51)
Review: FTP001 marks the debut of a freshly minted label, FrieTanzPlatten. There's little other info to impart, so we'll head straight onto the music, which is gleefully eccentric and wonderfully hard to pin down. There are references to classic jungle and hardcore material all over the place - see the Vincent Price-sampling, dubwise movements of Edward Mudwasser's brilliant "Shivers (DJ Normal 4 & 4 Boom Hombre Lobo Mix)", or the rush-inducing rave revivalism of Son Of A Loop's "TnJ Loop" - but also a range of tracks that stick two fingers up at convention. Check, for example, the deep space explorations of Mood Ring's "Where R U Now", which surprisingly features a very weary male vocal, and the wayward acid madness of DJ Groov's "Energy Ensemble".

'Can't Let You Go' is one of the last recordings from Holloway before her sad passing in 2011. Now it's been given the chance to shine thanks to Turner and Vega Records. Over a massive eight remixes, 'Can't Let You Go' is taken on different house journeys.

One half of Masters At Work Kenny Dope and the inimitable Roland Clark rocking the mic on the NSFW "Talk Dirty". 4. Cloudface - "Panter Blue" (5:54)
Review: Something has been stirring in Vancouver for some time, as those who closely follow the exploits of the city's Mood Hut crew will confirm. Here, local record store turned party crew Pacific Rhythm launches its new label with a quartet of tracks from local artists. 1080p and Forbidden Planet man Lnrdcroy handles the A-side, dropping a sublime extended version of "Sunrise Market" - a deliciously dreamy and ethereal concoction built around waves of calming synths - and the chunkier and stripped back - but no less woozy - "Time Zone (Mix 2)". Mood Hut affiliates Hashman Deejay and Cloudface dominate the flip, with the former providing a throbbing, pared-down Dub of Memory Man's self-titled debut. As for Cloudface, his "Panter Bleu" is a deliciously wonky chunk of fizzing acid.

  3. Florist - "112712" (3:59)
  4. D Tiffany - "Orange Crush" (Plush Managements mix) (5:35)
Review: Given the brilliance of the first Rhythms of the Pacific EP, slipped out some 12 months ago by Vancouver store and party crew-turned record label Pacific Rhythm, hopes are naturally high for this belated follow-up. Happily, it's every bit as magical as its' predecessor. Neo Image kicks things off with "So", a warm, evocative and dreamy blend of broken beat, downtempo and garage influences. He follows this up with the similarly heady "JR East", whose drawn-out ambient chords are accompanies by clattering drum machine hits and tactile electronic melodies. Flip to the B for the typically deep and dusty Vancouver house bliss of Florist's "112712" and the gritty, dubbed out deep house brilliance of D Tiffany's "Orange Crush (Plush Managements Mix)". Like the rest of the EP, it's utterly beguiling.

Review: Leon Revol is a producer from Bordeaux, France. Formerly known as Leonid. (with a full stop) some of you may know him from his releases on labels such as personal and Boutade Musique. Under his birth name this will mark his second release since last year. On the A side we've got the deep, jazzy and soulful jam "Far With A Van" which kinda reminds us of those summery jams from the early noughties by Ian Pooley and St Germain. Also on offer is the sublime and ethereal with its reversed guitars semi-showgaze style, dusty beats and all round emotive elements bound to get some smiley faces on the dancefloor. On the flip an honorable mention to the dubby and hypnotic bliss of "St James" which takes it down a notch or two in great style.

Review: Given the popularity of volumes one and two in the superb Rhythms Of The Pacific series, you can bet your bottom dollar that this third installment will fly off the shelves. Happily, the standard remains high throughout, with debutant Slim Media Player particularly impressing. The artist with the superbly-current name offers up a pair of fine tracks; the low-slung jazz bass, new age pads and bumpin' beats of "Dappled Love", and the decidedly horizontal, loved-up shuffle of "Pink Hues, Bad News". On the flip, Electric Sound Broadcast melds yearning, sun-kissed electronics to freshly beaked house breaks on the delightful "WaveRunner", before 1080p regular Khotin delivers a dash of dreamy, acid-flecked brilliance in the shape of EP standout "Nimbus (Tomi's Pad Mix)".

Review: Tobias Gullberg invites Smallville's Christopher Rau to the Crime City HQ and it's an open and shut case of total disco deviancy. Each track causing a different riot, Rau's records are looking at series time in playlist choky: "Second Take" is the ultimate trolley dash, speeding down the aisles grabbing every sweet morsel you fancy, "Madit" is a moonlit flit that turns into a techno turbo dash while "In Wirklich Arango" maintains a relentless Detroit momentum before ducking and diving with incisive funk guitar twangs. "CD" closes on a straight-up chug. Low, slow and awash with dreamy chords... The only true crime here would be to sleep on this.

Review: Last spotted burning hearts as Amberflame on Claremont 56, Theomatic boss Andrei Zakharov dusts off his AN-2 controls for three blissful, starlit downbeat instrumentals. "Sigint" slithers and writhes with salubrious, warm soapy levels of liquid funk while "Mint" is a slow-motion jog through a field at sunrise, living up to every fresh and lush connotation its title suggests. "Dusky Downtown" adds a little warped mysticism as the bassline seems to fall over the sludgy breaks and the synths melt in the spaces between. To top it all off, Andrei also throws in a chunkier, slightly more upbeat Amberflame remix, too. Safe travels.

Raw futuristic jazz is the theme (as is often the case with Pepe) as we're eased in nicely with harmonic broken shuffles of "Willplayasong4u" before being plunged into trippy data chirps on "KM Zero" and square-pushing oddities on "@#$*?! Square Tones". We come out the other side learned and woken the jitterbug, sample-heavy psychedelic bump-funk of "Pepe XXX". 24th century business.

Review: Chicago based producer Tai Davis first came to light earlier this year with the Made In Chicago 12" on Dizzy Tunes, and now he follows that up with an EP on the ever productive Vibraphone. As the title No Computers Necessary would suggest, this is classically-rooted house music with all the charm the hardware process provides. Davis' productions are bright, melodic creations with rock solid grooves and strong hooks for all kinds of good times, with B2 track "Floating" standing out with its strafing acid line punching out into a decidedly ethereal soundscape.

Review: Ever reliable Canadian producer Fred Everything makes his first appearance of 2017 with a selection of choice remixes of house classics for the Lazy Days label. On the A-side he's taking to Crazy P's "Like A Fool" a vocal and dub version and laying down a slick, bubbling groover that fits perfectly with the original's warm, disco-infused elements. On the flip, he takes on Roach Motel's "The Night" and makes it into a shimmering nocturnal cut peppered with impeccable synth lines and a sleazy vocal turn. By way of variety the final track sees Fred create a laid back Balearic, auto-tuned version of Franky Selector's "Wind Swept Dune".

Review: Simone Vescovo, better known as Simoncino, kicks off another venture for a regular haunt of his, Sydney's Thug Records, under the Ron Jason moniker. The invitation of Larry Heard on remix duties should tell you something about this release, and the classic deep house tones that come drifting out of the assembled tracks certainly take their cue from Heard's most tender moments. At each turn the beats feel stiff but soft, giving up as much space as possible to the warming bass lines, chiming keys and ethereal pads, and between the originals and Heard's two remixes there's little to tell between them, which should come as something of a compliment for Vescovo.

Of No Memory (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: WB 020 . Rel: 01 May 17
  1. Of No Memory
  2. Pacing
  3. Body Shirk
Review: Kiev based label Wicked Bass has proven to be one of the most intriguing operations in the Ukraine, operating an impeccable selection policy when it comes to its signings. Following on from the excellent Healing Force Project 12", the latest missive on the label comes from Galdoors co-founder Junes, who presents some of his strange and slippery techno variations for adventurous spinners who crave subtleties in their jams. "Of No Memory" has a wonderfully hypnotic quality to it, while "Pacing" heads down the minimal route to deadly effect. "Body Shirk" finishes the EP off with a head-turning set of drums and some tripped out synths.

Review: A concept shrouded in cosmic mystery, his true space species unknown, Nibiru Humans has arrived from outer space with a sonic message of peace, unity and possibly a bit of love too. "Space Entrance" is his first contact; a time transcending cloud of foundation house vapours, touched by a Fingers-style analogue bass roll that resonates with all humankind. Why has he arrived on this planet? What will his next message be? Stay tuned earthlings...
