  1. I’m Coming Up (5:38)
  2. Always Down For You (4:26)
  3. Always Down For You (Kris Baha remix) (6:46)
Review: Hailing from Australia but based in East London, Rohan Bell-Towers has become one of the artists most readily-associated with Marvin and Valentino's Public Possession label. I'm Coming Up is the seventh PP release bearing the Bell-Towers name and the title cut sees him whipping up some forthright club tackle. There are plenty of sliced up soul-enriching samples licking about the jam, but the focus is on straight up house rhythms that scream out for peak time play. There's a more esoteric lilt at work on B-side cut "I'm Always Down For You", which slows things down a touch and works in some choice vocal choppery and a bassline to die for and is complemented by a remix from rising talent Kris Baha.

  1. No Name 4 (9:10)
  2. Coffee N Doughnuts (5:41)
Review: Radio Slave's Cabin Fever series is still going; he's up to 35 now! On the A side of this volume is the lovely "No Name 4" which straight away reminded us of Aqua Bassino's lascivious deep house sounds of the mid-nineties with soulful emotive pad leads, Juno 106 synth leads. On the flip he goes for something completely different on the John Carpenter-ish "Coffee N Doughnuts" which sounds like an '80s horror soundtrack until that tough breakbeat kicks in beneath some soaring vintage synth leads.

  1. Alone (Paradise) (6:43)
  2. Alone (flute house) (5:32)
  3. Alone (sax ambient) (6:45)
Review: Carlo Troja aka Don Carlos was active during Italy's golden days, the years that saw the likes of Beppe Loda and the rest of the 'cosmic' crew pave the way for what was to then become house music as we know it in Europe. Although he was an influential DJ as far back as the 1970s, Troja only released his first EP in 1991, the beautiful Alone that is reissued here with the help of Groovin. The Paradise mix in any house-heads dream come true, a bass-heavy club nugget that contains just the right balance between funky and deep; the Flute house version adds in a layer of beautiful chirps for added sexiness; and the Sax Ambient mix is perhaps the best moment on here, keeping those starry synths well in the mix alongside cool piano keys. Hot and warmly recommended.

Review: Crosstown Rebels assemble an A-star team of pioneers and legends for the next mammoth release on the label. 'Touch Your Body' comes courtesy of Felix Da Housecat, Jamie Principle and Vince Lawrence aka The 312 with sublime remixes from Moodymann. Felix Da Housecat is said to have wanted to go back to his Chicago roots and rounded up the other two legends of the Windy City; Lawrence for his spiritual and stylistic guidance and Priniciple for his unmistakable voice which has graced many a house anthem in the last 30 years. "Touch Your Body" conjures the spirit of Classic Chicago on this darkly emotive and bittersweet anthem that's just bound to be a future classic with a sincere nod to the past. Moondymann's stellar remixes on offer take the track down deeper territory.

Cat: ROYAL 033. Rel: 27 Jun 16
  1. Side Street (6:18)
  2. Jaywick (5:36)
Review: Predictably, Clone is keeping tight-lipped about the identity of the "talented" Rotterdam producer behind the Fell's Point alias. This debut from the "side project" features two tracks that bump along impressively, drawing on vintage UK garage, U.S house and New Jersey garage influences. Both are sweaty, bold and bass-heavy, with flipside "Jaywick" cleverly combining headline-grabbing piano riffs, classic vocal snippets and a sub-heavy bassline with shuffling, '90s style drumbeats. Lead cut Side Street has a similar feel, though the beats bang harder, and its' a woozy synth line and loved-up chords that grab the attention, rather than Italian style piano motifs.

  1. Hope (LV remix) (5:53)
  2. Colour (Fabian Dikof dub) (7:08)
  3. Spring At Last (The Black 80s remix) (6:04)
  4. Colour (Potatohead People Lights Off remix) (4:26)
Review: Pete Josef's album for Sonar Kollektiv, the aptly named Colour, was a fitting piece of future soul and downtempo for this now legendary leftfield jazz outpost. Luckily, the label are as open-minded as the music on their catalogue, and they've decided to have a selection of tunes from the LP remixed and rewired into minimal dance cuts by a fine group of names. LV adds a subtle kick-hat to "Hope", while Fabian Dikof's dub version of "Colour" spirals the listener into a deep, trip web of strobe-light minimal for the peak hours. On the flip, "Spring At Last" is retouched by The Black 80s and transformed into a delicate, bouncy house chiller, followed by another glorious remix of colour by Potatohead People Lights Off, this time taking the tune to slower, more hip-hop-leaning territories.

  1. Let's Get Away (7:29)
  2. Let's Get Away (dub) (7:12)
Review: Although Kyodai sounds like a producer out of Japan, Javier and Luis Garayalde Oses are Berliners through and through and very much in line with the rest of the excellent Mule Musiq label. Their previous material has come mainly through the equally excellent Freerange label, a slew of releases that has earned them a place on what is perhaps the most credible and reassuring deep house label on the market. "Let's Get Away" is loose and airy, a stunning house voyage with a soulful sensibility and a pop mentality; the dub version on the flip is deeper, more hypnotic and focused primarily on the groove. Lovely stuff right here...

  1. Flares (Kuniyuki Takahashi remix) (10:46)
  2. Flares (Tambien remix) (8:15)
  3. Bell Rock Outpost (Seahawks remix) (2:37)
Review: Four years after its original release, tracks from Land of Light's eponymous album get a new set of remixes. Fans of Lovefingers' ESP Institute label may recall the orginal remixes, released back in 2012, and this new set are just as essential. Kuniyuki Takahashi's take on the title track sets the tone, with sensuous ambient textures and gently warbling guitars creating an atmospheric mood. Tambien's version is just as esoteric, but slightly more understated, while Seahawks rounds off this latest remix package with his take on "Bell Rock Outpost". Juddery, slow-paced drums and warm, jazzy piano lines create another beautiful piece of music - tailor-made for those sunset moments.

Review: Hovering around the same constellation of like-minded collectives that includes Going Good, Firecracker and 12th Isle, London crew Bushes expand operations from parties to include a record label of the same name. The honour of the debut Bushes 12" goes to Cologne-based LL/DJ, aka aiwo recs. co-founder and Salon Des Amateurs regular Kevin Lukacs. The story goes Bushes were introduced to the particular percussive delights of LL/DJ track "Ombu" by Wolf Muller and promptly set about sounding out Lukacs with regards to releasing it. Three different variations on the track now feature on this excellent 12" with the extended Zoto Mix on the B-side a real diamond of a dancefloor track. Fans of SUED, Blip Discs, Themes For Great Cities should definitely check this one!

Review: Mark Seven's all-killer no filler Parkway Records label returns with a new edition on the more house-focused Parkwest series and naturally there is another fanciful backstory! According to press notes, a scratched TDK case with a SA-X tape marked simply "THE TAPE I LOST" landed at Parkway HQ a while ago and a curious Seven was delighted to discover the musical treats held within. The results are now presented on this superb Channel Affair 12" from The Lost Tape, with the evocative original mix of the title cut blessed by a further take by Mark Seven. His The Love I Lost Mix is the real highlight here, lending the cut more of a '80s proto house feel whilst the flip features more blissful house vibes.

Review: Jordan Alexander's been rinsing it under his Mall Grab moniker, and every release since his debut back in 2015 has been hotly tipped by us here at Juno towers. EP's for Church, 1080p and Collect-Call have now earned him a spot on Unknown To The Unknown, one of our favourite labels and surely one of the most diverse, too. "I've Always Like Grime", as the name implies, is a house track made by someone who listened to high doses of Crazy Titch and Plastician back in the day, but "Black Palms" does its best to distance itself from the UK thanks to some pretty nasty acid bumps, and "Menace II Society" heads to Chicago with its singular vocal sample and dusty house flex. Sick!

  1. The Tourist (8:58)
  2. Oye (8:26)
Review: According to Lovefingers' typically eccentric sales notes, these two tracks from Man Power (AKA similarly quirky producer Geoff Kirkwood) will "put a wrench in your holiday". Kirkwood has been globetrotting a lot lately, and both cuts here sound like they were inspired by visits to hot, steamy countries. He kicks things off with the subtle positivity of "The Tourist", where swirling chords and tumbling synthesizer melodies ride a busy, bouncy, and pleasingly off-kilter, tribal drum groove. While excellent, it lacks the surging positivity, glistening Balearic touches and wonky analogue bottom-end of flipside "Oye", which sounds like an Adriatic anthem in waiting.

Review: Paris label D.KO presents to us local lad Mezigue who serves up some deep disco house with an unmistakable French touch like on the dynamic opener "Track 1 (Euromillion)" until he goes into low-slung slo-mo Territory that references Moodymann like on "1///1::2 15". On the flip there's some more great grooves like on the tough house stomp of "Du Son Pour Les Gars Surs" which has a jacking groove beneath some clever disco loops and "A L'ancienne On L'appelait Papy" which has that classic early '90s US house vibe reminiscent of Blaze.

Review: Serial collaborator Mister Ho - co-founder of Klasse Recordings, fact fans - first joined forces with up-and-coming producer Heap earlier this year. Feeling Hopeful is the speedy follow-up to that record, and once again sees the duo in the loving arms of Lovefingers' ESP Institute label. The title track sets the tone, with duo layering twinkling organ motifs and undulating bass atop a chugging, mid-tempo house groove. As if to prove that they're capable of making more obviously cheery music, B-side "Gis Gis" is a spacey, analogue-rich affair, with a fizzing drum machine rhythm underpinning dreamy chords and vintage, late night melody lines.

Review: The Blorp imprint is back with its second instalment and this time the label have recruited Machester's Fred Shepherd aka No Moon to sail the ship forwards. "Aoe Atmos" isn't exactly steady around the edges, but it certainly gets out juicer flowing - a grainy, distorted beat groove scatters percussion all over the place amid a minimal cascade of melodies and bleeps. "Space Exploration 101" on the flipside is a straighter sort of monster, still grounded in principles of distortion and decay, but its hazy instruments are now bouncing straight rather than sideways. Nice little tip here!

  5. It's Gonna Be Alright (The Vox) (1:12)
Review: The latest subject of Rush Hour's archival intentions is No Pain, a one off alias from New York house produce Kevin (or Cevin as he preferred to be known) Fisher. Originally released in 1993 through the Hardtrax label, It's Gonna Be Alright is one of those classic late night house records, with deep and moody tribal production the perfect foil for some superb vocals from the unheralded C-7. Original copies are that extortionate but it's nice to see Rush Hour celebrate one of their favourite records from the era with a fully licensed and remastered reissue. There are five different mixes here, which all offer a subtle variation and each will work the floor like you need them too - the superbly titled Cliff Deep Flute mix is our pick though.

Review: This Is Our Time - a 101% Hungarian label run by the homies Route 8 & Soundbank aka the Lathequex boyz - presenting a special 10" from the former, highly regard artist known for his work on Lobster Theremin, Nous and Farbwechsel. Arriving on the 10" format, This Is Our Time describe this two track salvo from Route 8 as like "being when you have that slice of pizza on your way home from a big night out and you feel like that you are in the centre of the universe." We've all been there right? "Floating (dub)" gets that sublime dubby deep house vibe happening as good as Swiss guys like Baaz or Quarion can; this low slung groove is pure bliss. On the lip things get a bit more uplifting on the very KDL inspired slo-mo deepness of "Dance With U" which is perfect to get the crowd in the mood in the early evening. Tip!

Review: Back in 2012, the collective talents of Dego, Kaidi Tatham, Mr Mensah and Matt Lord combined for a superb album on 2000Black. Last year saw the quartet reconvene in the studio for a 12" snappily titled Off The Christmas Card List (possibly named in homage to anyone calling their music broken beat) which was mooted as a precursor to a new LP! Another taster now arrives on 2000 Black in the shape of the Cascade 12", brandishing a triplet of toasty future boogie standards primed for dancefloor deployment. The warm Rhodes, shuffling percussion and occasional twisted FX of "The Inside Is The Outside" stand out, as does the sweet soul strut of "The Believer", though there is a reason the title track hogs the A-side. That reason? It's a delight!
