  1. Kiss O Sandro (7:30)
  2. KitKat Maze (12:50)
Review: Junkyard Connections and Karlovac co-founder Mr Tophat has forged a career out of collaborations. Here, though, he flies solo, delivering a first EP for Munich's Public Possession. Both tracks are deliciously woozy and quietly positive, with fluid synth lines and bubbly electronics being fused with sparse, off-kilter percussion tracks. A-side "Kiss of Sandro" is peculiarly jazzy and sleepy, with robotic vocals spreading out over spacey synths, chiming melodies and cheap-sounding machine drums. Flipside "KitKat Maze" is, if anything, even more out there, and boasts a mixture of creepy music box melodies, curious xylophone lines and metronomic deep house percussion.

  2. Nature Rhythm - "Ocean Drive" (6:16)
  3. Janeret - "Solstice" (6:08)
  4. Gabriel - "Atout Jaybacule" (6:46)
Review: True deep house once again emanating from Paris label D.KO Records, this time in various artist form. Full of debutants, Mickael Jeanneret is the veteran of this release and he turns in a liquid cut of floating drum and bass that combines the best of Kerri Chandler with LTJ Bukem in "Solstice". The Rag Dabons collaboration kicks off the compilation with a forever uplifting "C La Qui Arrive" while new name Nature Rhythm adds a two-step feel to "Ocean Drive". Gabriel, one half of Rag Dabons, goes dubby on "Atout Jaybacule" for those who love some Caribbean soul in their house music. Fresh breeze for the summer heat.

Review: The mysterious Crue have been putting out solid house whites for the past four years, and still we're waiting to know who's behind this enigmatic little project. What YOU need to know, however, is that a tune like "Crue A" doesn't come around too often, and its warm, dubby glow fits in ever so will with the scorching waves of disco at its core. The flipside, "Crue B", jingles and dangles its 70s wings in similar fashion, this time spear-headed by a bumpier, more explosive groove. Choice cuts!

Review: Having recently contributed the delicious "Cricket Orchestra" to Smallville's impressive 10th anniversary collection, Smallville Ways, Julius Steinhoff and Just von Ahlefeld deliver their first EP for the Hamburg label in 12 months. They begin with the throbbing, low-slung bounce of "Crystal Fandango", where ghostly electronics and rubbery riffs wrap themselves around a stomping, bass-heavy groove. "Move" features similarly woozy chords and melody lines, but a more glassy-eyed, Chicago-influenced drum track, while "Fever" is percussively dense and acid influenced whilst retaining their usual hazy deep house feel. It's all impeccably produced, as usual, and each of the three tracks brings something a little different to the (turn) table.

  2. You Ain’t Going Home With Me (feat Ebony Ugo) (4:35)
  3. A/E (Absolutely Eclectic) (feat Ralph Ugo) (6:14)
Review: If deep, spacey house is your thing, there's a good chance you probably already own quite a few Joey Anderson records. Following a number of successful excursions on Dekmantel he returns to his Inimeg Recordings imprint. Opener "Dozen Roses" is typical of Anderson's "deep space" style of house, with the track shuffling into life following a luscious ambient intro. He continues to explore the deepest realms of dancefloor music on "You Ain't Going Home With Me", where Ebony Ugu's simple, soulful vocal seemingly drifts over soft touch beats, dreamy chords and occasional jammed-out melody lines. Similarly soulful closer "Absolutely Eclectic" doffs a cap to early '90s UK "bleep and bass", whilst retaining Anderson's usual super-deep vibe.

Review: Amsterdam's Detroit Swindle duo pair up and land back on Jimpster's Freerange imprint...and you know that means swinging, dusty house grooves for all! The title track "Figure Of Speech" is a pleasant, beautifully Detroitified house swayer featuring some heavy chord action, and "Victoria's Secret" adds a further layer of beat-swing around cheery melodies for the summer haze. Flip the disc and you got "Live At The Cosmic Carnival", a disco-fuelled house anthem and another floor-filler to fill Swindle's ever-impressive catalogue.

Review: Carsten Aermes, aka Phon O, made a name for himself via the 50 Weapons label in more recent years, and it's now time for him deliver the goods for Ellen Allien's BPitch Control, one of Berlin's finest house and techno stables. "Run" is more energetic and upbeat compared to a lot of other BPitch releases, bringing through a soaring melodic groove and a high-powered techno rattle into the mix, whereas "Booklyn Shuffle" is a futuristic sort of jungle abstraction featuring a 4/4 beat down in its underbelly. The title track "Fractions" goes for a more house-centric approach, but Phon O still manages to retain his distinctiveness thanks to a jam-packed groove full of bass exploration and subtle jungle infusions.

  1. Gliese 581g
  2. Science Fiction
Review: Absolutely gorgeous release from the fledgling Swedish imprint Aniara Recordings which sees the return of Genius Of Time with two expertly arranged productions that demand your full attention. "Gliese 581g" might hint at the astrological leanings of Genius Of Love, but what is clear is an innate ability to craft hypnotic, fluid analogue grooves that more than retain your attention despite being entirely instrumental - a criticism of much of what passes between the genre barriers of contemporary disco and deep house releases. Essentially "Gliese 581g" is a gloriously elongated ten minutes of music that gently saunters through different musical movements with nonchalant ease. Naturally the flipside embellishment "Science Fiction" is just as impressive, jetting off on an intergalactic e funk saunter through snapping drums, infectious percussion and laser beams of analogue effects. Kudos too for the entirely far too creepy artwork that adorns this release.

Review: 2015 is fast turning into Henry Wu's year. Having already delivered killer 12s of baked deep house/instrumental hip-hop fusion for Ho-Tep and Odd Socks, he now pops up on Rhythm Section International with another brilliant EP. While as deep and blazed as previous excursions, there's a sun-bright freshness to the pleasingly varied selections on offer. Contrast, for example, the deep space, boogie-house slickness of "Yellow Brick", the bruk revivalism of "Neezy (Wok)" - think I.G Culture after a few too many bongs) - and the brilliant deep house/jazz-funk fusion of "Dubplate Special". Arguably best of all, though, is the Latin jazz-goes-deep house warmth of "Croydon Depot". Everyone will have a different personal favourite, though; it's that kind of EP.

Review: The Melbourne artist most commonly known as Andras Fox reaffirms his bright light status with a mini-album under a new alias, House Of Dad, which arrives as the debut release on the label of the same name. Fox, real name Andy Wilson, has been in impressive form across a number of projects of late - Andras, A.R.T. Wilson and the Wilson Tanner collaboration with John Tanner among them - and fans of his rich approach to production will delight in this House Of Dad endeavour. Described as an homage to his plumber father, the six tracks veer from Gigi Masin-style piano meanderings to pattering electro workouts and deep house shufflers. Throughout it all, Wilson's measured talent for instrumentation shines through.

Review: You have to go back two summers to the last time Eliphino was spotted on a 12" slab of vinyl, sharing space with Seven Davis Jr and Rekchampa for some daring reworks as part of the Love Below series. This Joy In Repetition 12" sees Eliphino return, brandishing a quartet of tracks the producer laid down whilst on a year break from London in Berlin, and arriving on the label of the same name founded by him and Dimensions Festival man Andy Lemay. If you picked up Jackmaster's recent DJ Kicks effort, you'll be familiar with the rich house shuffle of opening track "Isabella Road" but this 12" sees Eliphino offer a wider demonstration of his production palette. A sense of warmth is apparent throughout as subsequent tracks touch on a more off-kilter approach to production with "April Baby" and "Piano Day" featuring some fine abstracted beat patterns and fluttering synth lines. Closer "LinkLater" sees Eliphino return to lush house sounds in a triumphant fashion.

Review: Having co-founded the now mythical Eglo Records, Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points has, more recently, begun to release his music through his own Pluto label, an imprint with a clear vision from the music to the artwork. Moreover, the label also gives Shepherd room to explore outside of his more traditional housey framework, and the majority of the releases on Pluto have consisted of wild and diverse shreds of broken beat and nu jazz. "Kuiper" is his latest excursion and it's a psychedelic journey through high-powered percussion and airy synth experimentations all wrapped up in a suave jazz coating. "For Mamish (part 2)" is something altogether sparser and less concrete, but there is still plenty of movement amid Shepherd's crystal sounds and Balearic riffs in what sounds like the perfect new age sort of amalgamation. Excellent.

Review: Since 2014, Moscoman has worked hard to reach the reputation he's at now, and that comes in part to the music he's released on ESP Institute and Cosmo Vitelli's I'm A Cliche. But not simply relying on others to put out his music, Moscoman launched Disco Halal last year which has already notched up a whopping 10 releases, including a reissue of Tony Carey's 1984 album as TCP, which he indulgently remixes three times on this release. Appropriately, Moscoman tackles the album's title-track, shining a spotlight on the production's chorus of vocals, while the "Oasis" remix plays with Italo melodies, subtle middle eastern themes in a producton almost made for a Beverly Hills Cop scene. "A Voice Across The Nile" opens the 12" with a slinky drum track however Moscoman does let a cascading synth open up for some undeniable '80s vibes.

Review: Trevor Jackson tends to do things differently, so the recent announcement of nine EPs of previously unheard Playgroup material, to be released in the space of nine weeks, should have come as little surprise. Opener "Move My Body" is particularly strong, and features sampled Robert Owens vocals rising and falling over a classic, late '80s Chicago house groove. There's a similar retro-futurist feel to the more acid-flecked Ed DMX collaboration "I Want To Believe", while "Play The Music" combines similar influences with a touch of NYC proto-house.

Review: For many people, their first exposure to Genius of Time was the 2011 Whitney sampling Clone classic Houston, We Have A Problem yet the Swedish pair had already scored two excellent 12"s for the Aniara label. With both long out of print, Aniara have elected to offer up a timely repress of Same Old Place, the debut Genius Of Time transmission that still sounds remarkably fresh almost four years on. Superbly well crafted, the title track keeps the drums to a minimum to allow those swooping stabs the space to drive proceedings forth, lending "Same Old Place" a sense of the classic without resorting to pastiche. "Tight Genes" demonstrated Alexander Berg and Nils Krogh were equally capable of productions centred around rolling basslines and killer rhythmics. If you missed out first time round, don't make the same mistake now!

Review: Lamont Booker aka Elbee Bad sounds like he belongs amid the Chicago producers of the mid-'90ss but the Germany-based house producer has only been around since the turn of the millennium, and he's very much a part of the contemporary scene. Releases for labels like 4Lux and Rush Hour have cemented his name and status as one of the finest purveyors of classic 4/4 in this day and age, and this new EP for Germany's excellent Housewax is both apt and very much welcome. "Smooth Sailing In A Green Spaceship" is a broken, rattling slice of analogue house bric-a-brac, while "Im Sorry!" is a much deeper, more ethereal lick for the dance. On the flip, "Wondering?!" ups the tempo and the aggression of the kick drums, but it's "Move This Way!" that gains the 'tip' status from us - perfect builder that'll make any set that but more hypnotic.

Review: Soon, Kornel Kovacs will release his debut album, The Bells, on the Studio Barnhus label he founded with Axel Boman and Peter Nordkvist back in 2010. To raise awareness, the label has decided to offer up this sampler 12". It contains altered versions of two cuts from the album; the bumpin', Sneak-goes-wild sample-house bump of "Gex (Tended)", where Kovacs gets busy with filters and some horn-heavy snippets, and "Josey's Tune (Extended)", a deliciously tuneful vision that melds ear-catching melody lines to a UK-funky inspired, broken house rhythm. Also included on the 12" is a fine remix of that track from Samo DJ, who turns in a dreamy interpretation built around an entirely new dub-house groove.

Review: A welcome return for Sweden's finest exponents of sumptuous house music, as Dorisburg delivers two tracks on this excellent twelve from Aniara. Newcomers to the label will find much to like here, with the aptly titled "Tundra" an expansive number that gradually accrues illuminating layers of melody and rich rhythm. The track has a constant upwards trajectory yet retains the feeling of gentle restraint, the deep burnt spinal synth oscillations providing the requisite hypnotic effect. On the B Side "Transform" sees Dorisburg indulge in immaculately crafted dubby house with vaguely techy overtones, frosted textures of dark sound gradually rising through the mist to lock into the stripped down percussion.

Review: Francis Harris is back in the studio with good pal Anthony Collins for the former's Scissor & Thread imprint. "Under The Jaguar Sun" is a smooth deep house journey that is covered in the right amount of dust and smoke with rolling bass, rusty rhythms and smooth bell textures for added atmosphere. Aussies Solo Andata (featuring Kane Ikin) turn in a rather sublime serving of deepness on "A Ballet Of Hands (Frank & Tony Breakaway edit)". On the flip "Difficult Loves" and "Sargasso" keep on with the stripped and minimal arrangements that roll forth in hypnotic fashion, capturing your ears and soul with their well-executed subtlety.

Review: France's Varhat is back after some great tracks on Crocus and Aku but who can forget that killer edit of Stablo he did last year. This guy's is on a roll and one to watch, which says a lot considering the amount of talent coming of Paris at the moment. This time it's for Ukranian wunderkind Mulen's imprint and it's a as deep and as rolling as you'd expect. The whole EP is great as a whole but really shines on "Track 2 " with its pitched down acid bassline and those sweet immersive pads. "Track 3" is properly deep with its smooth bassline, tight rhythm and those swirling and hypnotic synths working a treat.

Review: Acid house hooligans Paranoid London are back with another session of raw hardware driven shenanigans on the We Come To Rock EP. On the A side, the title track is one totally infectious and funky groove which boldly declares "We come to rock!" no guesses where that sample comes from and that perfect amount of dust and overdrive coats this gutsy vintage flavoured groove. On the flip "Buck Stoppin" sounds like classic Egyptian Lover on this surefire DJ tool with an emphasis on some killer vintage drum machine rhythms.

  5. Land (5:18)
Review: Rhythm Section International, helmed by "Executuve Producer" Bradley Zero, has barely put a foot wrong since launching in 2014. Here, the Peckham imprint welcomes Tom Harris AKA Hidden Spheres into the fold. He hits the mark from the off, layering up twinkling pianos, mutant synthesizer lines, bluesy vocal samples and huggable deep house grooves on "Well Well". Another deep, sun-kissed, almost horizontal house excursion can be found on the B, with the intricate and tactile "Your Effect" impressing. Elsewhere, Harris explores the dusty, downtempo side of his repertoire, with the jazzy "Land" sounding like a long lost Ninja Tune jam from the mid '90s.
