  2. The Bridge (Dan Ghenacia remix) (7:38)
  3. Control (6:57)
  4. Control (Art Alfie remix) (5:24)
Review: From Hudd Trax and Dessous through to One and Karat, Parisian producer Andrade has graced many a fine label in his time. He lands on Politics Of Dancing in fine fettle, jumping to the task with A-side cut "The Bridge" like he's got something to prove. The beat is irrefutable, while the soulful chords and samples rubbed into the joints make it all the sweeter. "Control" on the B-side is an airy affair that floats on plush layers of melody without losing its low-end impact. By way of variation, the remixes from Dan Ghenacia and Art Alfie simmer Andrade's originals down into measured, tool-like constructions.

Review: Blip Discs surfaced earlier this year with a debut 12" from O'Flynn that got the likes of Gilles Peterson and Bradley Zero all hot under the collar. The tropically minded label is back with a second release and its founder Tom Blip is responsible for the cuts which will resonate with any fans of Afro percussive work outs. Lead track "Wrong Guaco" is the epitome of relentless, basically one extended conga workout that will significantly nice up any self-respecting dancefloor! On the flip "Shekere" gets more mysterious and intense with its tribal drumming inducing higher levels with enduring state of trance. Tip!

  3. Souls Awash (5:56)
  4. Marcela's Sense (5:35)
Review: Francis Harris' Scissor & Thread now presents Windy City legend Darand Land; an underrated legend of the US deep house scene who first got his break releasing on Chris Gray's seminal Deep4Life imprint, where he released the wonderful Blessings EP. A highly sought after piece of musical history, for those that know. Making his comeback after a decade long hiatus, the rather mysterious producer returns with the bittersweet and emotive "Discover You". The A side cut receiving a remix by Harris and Anthony Collins aka Frank & Tony on the "Breakaway remix" where the pair put more power in the rhythm arrangement and intensify some of those melancholic chords: just sublime! On the flip, there's more funky and dusted down deepness on "Souls Awash" and then the lush, life affirming piano led vibes of "Marcela's Sense".

  4. Shortie (5:46)
Review: Surfacing from Hamburg with possible connections to the Smallville crew, the delightfully named Fuck Reality are back with a third transmission and more lush and dusty deep house. The opening track, "Knitring", is full testament to this, whilst "Break Away" is a nice lo-slung/slo-mo house cut reminiscent of Genius Of Time or the Aniara sound. On the flip, "Rett Fra Levra " goes for the traditional Chicago deep house sound of Larry Heard with its melancholic Dx7 chords before "Shortie" hammers the message home in dreamy/hazy hip-hop fashion for fans of the Money $ex/Glenn Astro sound out of Berlin.

  4. Listen Closely (5:29)
Review: Given her growing status as the first lady of off-kilter Canadian deep house, it was probably inevitable that Jayda G would appear on 1080p at some point. Happily, Sixth Spirit of the Bay is every bit as vibrant and colourful as you'd expect. There's an alluring positivity to the jammed-out piano riffs, undulating synth bass and Sotofett/Fett Burger style hand percussion on "Fathom Five", while the jaunty "Cascabel" is a tropical deep house treat. On the flip, she goes a little jazzier on the partly vocal, left-of-centre sweetness of "Heaven Could Be Lately", before diving deep into warm, crystal clear waters on the slightly more new age influenced 4/4 bliss of "Listen Closely".

Review: The notorious Sacha Mambo presents the debut of Japanese electro crooner Hidetaka Horie aka Jin-Cromanyon from Osaka and it's easily one of the most curious releases that we've come across in a while. Starting out on the A side with the cute, camp boom and snap of minimal hardware jam "PZ (Personal Zombies)", he then puts on the pressure for B side cut "Pulse Beat" which is reminiscent of legends like I-F or Japanese Telecom. Check out the lungs on this guy, he can sure hit those high notes! Take listen to this, it follows up great releases on the French label in recent times by Albion and Eva Geist.

  1. Heal (8:29)
  2. Plight (8:27)
Review: From his appearances on Aesthetic Audio and Ornate through to his own Atmospheric Existence label, Miles Sagnia continues to be one of the best kept secrets of British deep techno, and that's no more apparent than on this stunning release for Common Dreams. There's a looped up insistence to "Heal", but it's offset by emotive movement in the synth lines and an overall spiritual quality that escapes much cyclical techno. "Plight" takes a slightly slower path, amping up the early UK electronica tones for an immersive experience shaped out by interlocking rhythms and snaking melodies. It's a truly classy statement that stays true to techno while saying something original.

  3. Nodyahed (6:44)
  4. Aether (6:50)
Review: It would be fair to say that Mr Fingers 2016 is something of an event release, at least for those who love deep house. While Larry Heard has kept busy - largely with remixes and reissues - this marks the first 12" release under his most famous moniker for over a decade. He begins in contemplative mood, fusing tumbling music box melodies, creepy electronics and nagging 303 lines on "Outar Acid", before laying down some typically blissful, atmospheric deep house on the wondrous "Qwazars". Flip for "Nodyahead", an effortless mixture of heavy dub-house bottom end, African-influenced percussion and moody late night refrains, and the ultra-deep, piano-laden bliss of "Aether".

Review: Going by many names but primarily known as Nail, Neil Tolliday has been on searing form since getting back into the deep house game after a much celebrated run of releases back in the 90s. His 89:Ghost label is providing much of the new wave of material, and on this particular 12" he revives his The NG9 Project alias after a single on Robsoul in 2013. There's an irresistible micro house shuffle embedded into these tracks, with Nail's deft melodic touch scattered across the top to make for another essential, workable collection of jams for a more discerning crowd.

Review: Detroit's finest: Terrence Parker returns with more crucial edits that this veteran of the Motor City only can deliver. First up is a revised work of Soul Man aka Donnie Mark's 1993 underground classic "Stand Up For The Soul". T.P.'s "Explosive Soul Mix" indeed appeared on the B side of the original pressing all those years ago, but this is a wonderfully modern rework. There is also the sleazy disco-funk loops of "Play Ah Hate Ah" (TP 2016 Bangin' House re-edit), the original appearing on Parker's 1997 album Detroit After Dark and "What I Say Goes" (TP 1997 unreleased Disco mix) from 1999's Strong Songs Album.

  1. Ghetto Proposal (feat Kitten Kuroi & John Douglas) (7:42)
  2. Ghetto Proposal (instrumental - feat Amp Fiddler) (10:23)
Review: Theo Parrish's Gentrified Love series seems to be a collaborative affair. Part two, available separately, contained hook-ups with fellow Detroiters Wajeed and Duminie Deporres. "Ghetto Proposal", which is available in Vocal and Instrumental versions, features sublime contributions from another Motor City legend, veteran modern soul man Amp Fiddler. It's something of a deliciously trippy affair, underpinned by a freaky, delay-heavy groove, fireside-warm Rhodes keys, meandering trumpet lines and - on the vocal version, at least, drowsy female vocals. Both artists jazz influence is clear, particularly in the crunchy percussion hits that begin to dominate as the track progresses. Interestingly, the instrumental moves a little further towards jazzy broken beat territory.

  3. The Logical Question To Come Is Yet To Be Defined (feat Debashis Sinha) (16:19)
Review: Canadian minimal standard-bearer Pheek is the fifth artist to sign up for The Untold Stories Protagonist series, and he's packing some of the crispest grooves he's laid down in some time. "Lonely Wolf" is everything a minimal house track should be, with a crackling, shuffling beat and layers of subtle orchestration building into a soul-stirring groover. "Father" however takes a more abstract route into off-kilter percussion and exotic found sounds specifically arranged to tickle the mind. That leaves it to "The Logical Question To Come Is Yet To Be Defined" to dominate the B-side in a 16-minute trip that moves through all manner of moods and moments.

Review: Transmitting out of Birmingham and representing the cream of the sleek tech house crop, Adam Shelton's One Records continues to forge valuable connections with the global scene while staying true to the label's roots. Shaun Reeves and Tuccillo have been doing their thing for long enough to know how to throw down a surefooted deep groover, and that's just what you get with "Smile". Meanwhile The Mole does a sterling job of working some complex percussion into the bones of the track and creating a hypnotic, understated version that will appeal to the freakier end of the floor.

Review: Since making his debut earlier this year, Canadian producer Roberto Steenkamer has delivered vital material on Good Timin', No Bad Days and Red Motorbike. He rounds of 2016 with arguably his strongest single yet, the tactile, Balearic-minded dancefloor goodness of "New Sensation". Constructed out of dexterous, bouncy, Max D style drum machine rhythms and fluttering, new age influenced synthesizer melodies, it dozily floats between blissful breakdowns and crunchy, club-ready grooves. Label boss Tom Noble delivers the obligatory flipside remix, which effortlessly joins the dots between the spacey, far-sighted futurism of Motor City techno, and the tactile grooves of early New York house.

Review: Following choice wares from tape_hiss and Pascal Viscardi, Love Notes stride into winter with a fulsome offering from lesser-known artist Subtenant, who packs just the right balance of classic acid and modernist techno into the three original tracks on this 12". "Evergreen Soul" looks set to turn heads in the club with its playful organ flex hopping around the punchy 303 notes, while "Artisanal Acid" brings some homespun hardware handiwork to the table. "Know How It Feels" drops in at a slower tempo, but it's D'Marc Cantu who steals the show with a dynamic remix of the title track loaded with detail and shot through with dub.

Review: Boof! A real blast from the past with this latest reissue from Sueno Latino featuring none other than the Paradise, Agua, Derrick May and Winter versions! This is simply a 12" for everyone, ranging from sultry Balearica to heady, organic house and it's rather quite difficult to decide which version is the best one. Paradise is housey and floor-ready, the Agua version is spacey and complete with UR bird chirps, the Derrick May is obviously a percussive club destroyer, and the Winter cut is a mid-way between all four. To be totally honest, this is absolutely essential and you should just dive right in. Essential.

Review: The Highlife crew is remaining tight-lipped about the identity of the producer (or producers) behind the Tanzania Soundsystem project. Whoever it is, they've come up with some genuine dancefloor stormers to kick-start their career. Opener "Msichana", a kind of semi-organic tribal Afro-house bomb built around intoxicating rhythms and wide-eyed chants, is particularly good, though glistening closer "Upotofu" - all dusty old drum machine polyrhythms, sweet vocals and tumbling juju guitars - is almost as good. Furthermore, like most of the rest of the material on the EP, it's wonderfully positive and life affirming. Highlife 12" singles tend to be nigh on essential, and this is no exception.

Review: Brooklyn's Love Notes label continues to strengthen its repertoire with a return offering from the rising San Francisco producer tape_hiss. Following on from the excellent Love Is A Dog From Hell 12" earlier in the year this new four track single presents yet more plush, heartfelt jams from the machine-based side of house music. If a reference point were needed, having Patrice Scott on board for a remix is a logical move, although the Detroit don's Latin-flavoured shakedown of "The Vivian Girls" is a spicy proposition compared to the soothing balm of the original. That's not to say tape_hiss doesn't like to throw it down, as the twitchy pulse of "Realms Of The Unreal" adeptly proves.

Review: In the Internet age, it's remarkable that Finnish producer Trevor Deep Jr. has managed to retain his long-guarded anonymity. While mystery sometimes sells, it's the quality of his releases that keeps deep house heads coming back for more. On this 12", he's called in a few favours. King Shorty and Sven Weisemann lend a hand on the impeccably smoky, head-in-the-clouds brilliance of "Cosmos Dub", with the latter also providing a typically dreamy, deep and dubbed out take on title track "Like Heaven". His version largely omits Niko Marks emotion-rich vocal, which naturally takes more prominence on Deep's accompanying Vocal Mix. The fluid deep house lusciousness of "Prince of Helsinki" completes an excellent package.

Review: The latest 12" from the Fuck Reality camp is an all-star affair, featuring collaborations between Tel Aviv twosome T.v.out, and Hamburg duo Smallpeople (AKA Julius Steinhoff and Just von Ahlfeld). With such talent on display, it's perhaps unsurprising that lead cut "Sailor Desperados" - an energy-packed romp full of undulating acid lines, fizzing hi-hats and relentless stabs - is particularly inspired. Quintessentials regular Borrowed Identity turns that cut into a deep acid shuffler, before the core quartet returns to round things off with the woozy, bass-heavy, late night deep house grooves of "Shadow Quest".
