Electro House Recommendations September 2010

Review: Erol Alkan's Phantasy label returns with two killer Late Of The Pier remixes in one neat little package. The track provided by Belgian party starters Soulwax, is so intense it's like discovering Frosties after a lifetime of Corn Flakes. It's a full technicolor assault that takes the already behemoth, 'Best In Class' and maxes out its fun dials 'til way past bedtime. Vicious, razor sharp synths twist and soar around a delicious dirty stomping beat to clearly generate one of the most epic, dancefloor igniting tracks to have arrived this year. On the flip, classically trained composer producer Simon Bookish rebuilds the whimsical 'Blueberry' atop a lush pulsating electro-psych groove. Electronic drones and effects are invested with a rare emotion to create a haunting yet playful slice of futuristic pop.

Review: The Chemical Brothers call in the heavy hitters on this remix EP with Boys Noize, Popof and Lindstrom & Prins Thomas all vying for attention across two sides of vinyl. Boys Noize tackles "Swoon" and retains the vocals and though he drowns them in trademark kaleidoscopic lysergic swirls and twisted thumps, there is a melodic approach to the arrangement that is beyond the peaktime banger. The same track is taken on a mutant discoid odyssey by Norse deities Lindstrom & Prins Thomas, embellishing the track with an infectious live feel. Slipping in different elements of instrumentation keeps your ears and feet guessing for the duration and it's one of this years most interesting remixes to date. Parisian noise merchant Popof hugs the B Side with his remix of "Horse Power" which might be influenced in style by the Electronic Battle Weapons series Tom and Ed save their best work for. A jacking techno groove is the backdrop to escalating bleeps and wave after wave of energetic white noise - this one's for the dark sweaty basements.

Review: Boys Noize Records round up the impressive remixes of the Scissor Sisters recent single and place them either side of a cheeky green slab of vinyl. The hi NRG pop of the original is kept company by the de rigueur Stuart Price remix on Side A. On the flip BNR label boss Alex Ridha lays down some subtle nods to the Pet Shop Boys and Siriusmo does something completely different. Something for everyone here!
