Deep Dubstep
Sinker (5:17)
Sunbeam VIP (5:17)
Review: Japan's Takeaki Maruyama's dark, deep and sweltering pseudo dubstep has been around for longer than you might think. Before being signed early on by Mala for his own Deep Medi Muzik, Goth-Trad was releasing cutting-edge bass science on labels such as DNA Kalacta and Popgroup Recordings. His return to Deep Medi is a significant one, and "Sinker" is likely to be one of the best tunes that he's made in a while - those bouncy, fluttering swirls of mutant bass are docile yet vibrant and possess a sort of subtle menace to them. "Sunbeam VIP", however, is a pure corner-dweller's delight, a brooding little bass monster with enough subs to gravitate you off your feet and into hyper-space. Another winner from both artist and label. Quality assured.

Jungle Kitchen (5:07)
Pocosink (4:43)
Pocosink (Commodo remix) (2:41)
Review: Strictly vinyl, strictly limited, strictly distinctive: Las continues his consistent vein of form with two startlingly fresh originals. "Jungle Kitchen" runs with such a sweet swinging groove its more funk than it is dubstep. "Pocosink" meanwhile sits somewhere between early 00s Zed Bias and Zinc's Jammin alter ego. Skippy, switchy and super-charged with a UKG bassline, it's an instant party. For added trippiness jump on Commodo's more spacious, star-gazing halftime treatment.

We Nuh Care (6:46)
Vex Fi Dat (5:39)
Review: Those who like their dubstep blessed with some original jah flavour and diced off with no small amount of mystery know the Ruff Cut operation is their first port of call. Ipman, Killawat, and Kaiju may have been involved in the first few transmissions on Ruff Cut, but 2015 has seen the label operating in stealth mode; the emphasis is on the bass weight my friend. RUFFCUT 005 is by Tremble and it's an appropriate name as both sides on We Nuh Care will cause plenty of soundsystem rumblings. Up top, the title tracks shows a most devilish approach to rhythmic construction and no small amount of drunken swagger in the bassline, whilst "Vex Fi Dat" lays down the gauntlet for anyone that thinks they know their way around an echo chamber .

King Lion (Kahn remix) (4:46)
King Lion (5:35)
Review: Bunzer0 continues to spin the rich circle of life with "King Lion", a demonically spacious deep dub gem. Twisting the genre's standard halftime drum dynamic with bellows of room amid the anvil kicks, cheek-melting snares and nightmare-level vocal processes. Kahn gets busy on the remix, filling up the space with gunnish militancy. Like an army of robots marching into the apocalypse, this is one of Kahn's heaviest shake-ups to date. Unique.

Review: Following a series of well received - if frustratingly sporadic - singles on Woofer Music, Family Tree producer Faze Miyake has been given a chance to deliver his debut album on Rinse. The eponymous set perfectly showcases his unique take on grime, where rich melody lines, starry synthesizers and heady chords tussle for prominence with skittish rhythms, sturdy hits and booming basslines. He's helped along the way by an impressive roll call of guest MCs and vocalists, including Little Simz, Sasha Go Hard, Izzy Brooks and the Family Tree collective. It's Inga Copeland, though, who makes the greatest impression, lending some spine tingling vocals to the standout "Ice Cold".

Rude Kid - "Fabric" (2:36)
Review: Many people are proclaiming the mix CD dead, but Fabric are still approaching the format with a sense of renewed ingenuity. Mathew Jonson's recent effort took shape as a recording of the Cobblestone Jazzer's live performance at the club's birthday celebrations last year, whilst the latest Fabriclive mix is quite a landmark. Put together by longtime grime bastion Logan Sama, the 24-track mix CD has been accompanied by a 4LP set featuring every instrumental cut used!! A brief glance at the tracklisting for this vinyl set shows Logan has called on some true grime royalty with productions from Wiley, JME, Kahn & Neek, Jammer, Preditah, and Footsie all contributing and excelling.
