Love That (Burns Hot Enough)
Ma Body
Review: Waze & Odyssey are dealing in a lean kind of old-skool flavoured house music which has made its way onto Southern Fried and Wolf Music in 2012. Launching their own imprint to put out their cool and deadly deep house, "Love That (Burns Hot Enough)" kicks things off with a straight-up pumper full of DX7 bassline vibes and light and summery piano chords. It's a simple trick finished off with a snappy diva vocal hook. "Ma Body" is a marginally moodier affair, focusing more on the rhythm section and keeping excessive elements held back until a Casio keyboard line comes in, shredding everything down to pure bliss.

Enter The Fog
Roll Out
Fog Beats
Review: Aaron Siegel's Fit moniker links up with the considerable talents of Gunnar Wendel (better known as Kassem Mosse) for this killer two-tracker on FXHE, and even Omar S gets in on the action with some mixdown assistance. "Track 1" works around sizzling drums, emotive bass and a diverse spread of melodic sources for a simple and direct slice of analogue house. "Track 2" is a real carpet-burn of a track, taking the quality up to a new level with a gorgeous line in lead synths moulded into a thoroughly sexy concoction while the drums stay pert and primed for all manner of sultry floor action.

Unsung Hero
We Need More (feat Don Q)
Review: Eddie 'Flashin' Fowlkes has always fancied himself as the forgotten producer of the Detroit militia; a point which he explicitly points to on the title of this new release for the Detroit Wax imprint. "Unsung Hero" is, interestingly enough, quite noticeably un-Detroit sounding, rolling on a killer funky 2-step groove and breezy keys which would slot in nicely against the mellower end of UK garage. On the flip "We Need More" takes a stripped approach to house with some strange and submerged vocals from Don Q and restrained organ stabs, leaving it to the steadfast, bongo-laden groove to do most of the work. Unsung hero indeed!

Got 2 B
Say I
Useless
Review: There's little if anything we can find fault with on Hybrid Minds, a triumphant debut on the Electric Minds imprint for the prolific, if latterly quiet, Move D. This EP proffers the sort of nuanced deep house you've come to expect from the German producer after countless well received releases across Workshop, Running Back, Underground Quality and his own Source Records. Many will instantly fall for the charms of "Got 2 B", a superbly fizzing concoction that fluidly grooves through several glorious movements including a brief organ motif that would be rapturously received at the Electric Minds warehouse parties. "Say I" proves to be just as infectious, the tight clomping drum arrangements complemented by a real sense of textural space and a instantly recognisable vocal loop, while "Useless" ends proceedings with a dewy eyed vocoder led slow jam of the highest order.

Panama's Break 2012
Million Toes (interlude)
Review: The latest transmission from Kolour Ltd is that bit more special, collating some choice out-of-print cuts that French producer Patchworks released on Parisian hub Q Tapes for this black splattered clear plate. Just one of numerous aliases adopted by Bruno Hovart, the inherent musicality of these Patchwork productions date almost a decade and really do show up a lot of what passes for contemporary "deep house". A long version of "Million Toes" - originally released in 2005 - opens proceedings, finely balancing Hovart's undoubted skill for jazz arrangements with a sumptuous deep house groove that seems perfectly suited to set opening needs (the piano flourishes are particularly luxurious). "Cornbread" from the aforementioned EP is also included here, while Kolour look to Hovart's undervalued work as Porks Watch, with the thickly hypnotic disco-flecked title track from his 2005 Minotaur EP the highlight of the B Side.

The Vibes
The Vibes (Chicago Damn remix)
Just A New Day
Review: Together as 6th Borough Project, Craig Mitchell and Graeme "The Revenge" Clark have been a fixture of Delusions of Grandeur from the off, regularly transmitting their trademark brand of chunky disco-flecked house over the label's ongoing duration. The Vibes EP marks the duo's first material for Delusions since last year's well received debut album One Night In The Borough and finds them in fine fettle. Lead track "The Vibes" sees Mitchell and Clark in dark yet playful mood, with slick drum edits melding perfectly with eponymous vocal samples and a thick analogue bassline laying down the warehouse worthiness, while the arrival of orchestral strings provides the emotive release. Chicago Damn takes the track somewhere else on the accompanying remix, possibly his favourite productions since that killer debut Merc emission, stripping it back to a battle between high and low elements that must sound epic on a big system. Those craving some classic 6BP will revel in the luxurious expanses of "Just A New Day" that waits an absolute age to drop a beast of a bassline - well worth it though.

Ilinx
So Now You Know
Review: Hailing from Ireland, Shane Linehan has been committed to showcasing the finest that New Jersey-styled house music has to offer. Having impressed with his release for Local Talk, he returns to his own Basic Grooves imprint to get the good times rolling with aplomb. "Ilinx" wears its heart on its sleeve with a crisp beat that makes all the right moves, while a slick organ chord line takes centre stage in an upbeat revelry written for the start of the weekend. "So Now You Know" on the flip is a more contemplative affair, although no less steeped in bumping house culture. The keys are played in a more downbeat refrain and the beats a little more restrained, but this is still very much a dancefloor burner.

Review: The Italojohnson project remains an anonymous operation despite recently being unveiled online as the work of three individuals - which only adds an element of subterfuge to their chosen collective name. A sixth transmission arrives sporting three more untitled and diverse appropriations of the classic house template with the A Side a humongous slice of main room functionalism that shamelessly flaunts its hands in the air capabilities towards the end. The flips brings some surprises to the table with a Window Licker-esque Miami Bass workout complemented by rasping update on Dance Mania sweat-outs. Regardless of whether you agree with their militant format views or approach to anonymity, Italojohnson are undeniably masters of their craft.

Inside Feelings (7:41)
Keep Maintain (7:18)
Sun Rays (6:50)
No Look Back (5:22)
Review: Keith Worthy's Aesthetic Audio imprint is always a trusted stable for refined deep house excursions, and France's Life Recorder is a logical addition to the ranks with his delicate, shimmering cuts that positively overflow with nutritious melodies. "Keep Maintain" slyly works some forthright drums into the mix, almost unnoticed for the the narcoleptic pads to intoning a message of ultimate peace. "No Look Back" equally stands out for its sturdy rhythms carefully masked behind winsome daubs of synthesised expression, but it's that hypnotic tone that informs Aesthetic Audio releases and it's found at every turn on this record.

808 Signatures
Voices Of The World
Faces Revenge
Mental Samurai
Review: Returning to his fruitful Latin Soul Brothas venture, Ricardo Miranda once again reaches across the Atlantic from Chicago to Italy to collaborate with Neroli on this sturdy and varied four tracker. "808 Signatures" instantly stands out, working around a skippy groove that features more cowbell and rimshot than anything else from the fabled drum machine, while a looping synth creates a cheeky, left of centre feel. "Voices Of The World" is a more summery, piano-led jam with a Larry Heard flavour, and "Faces Revenge" pulls everything back for a slow but sturdy DJ tool. "Mental Samurai" cools everything off with another richly melodic jaunt through floating pads and gossamer beats.

Put That Record On
Review: Only just emerging on the radar, Dutch producer Roger Gerressen steps up to the equally blossoming Sudden Drop imprint with two refined and considered cuts of dubby house for those ultra deep moments. The title track is a skipping, broken meditation with echoing chords and a paper-thin beat that pops in an addictive groove. "Put That Record On" keeps things a little more rigid but no less mellow, opting for a moodier chord inflection, some gaseous atmospherics and obtuse vocal snippets for a truly deep excursion. It's the kind of record that would sit beautifully with the New York deeper-than-thou fraternity, while still grooving in its own little space, especially on the first track.

Lost Empire
Review: Since surfacing with prime fromage-free edit material for Cole Medina's American Standard label, Scottish producer Lord Of The Isles has graduated to fully fledged original productions with some great releases on quality imprints like Cocktail D'Amour, Ene and the lesser spotted Unthank label. A freshly announced debut on Shevchenko adds to his growing cache, as does Year Of The City, this excellent four track induction on the newly relaunched Phonica label. A hallmark of any release from Lord Of The Isles is a nice balance of styles and this 12" is no different. The title track sets the tone, as the producer invites us on a journey into the dark heavily arpeggiated future, one driven by some brilliantly loose rhythms. Following this, "FS01" eschews the need for drums, instead implementing all manner of atmospheric drama via some brilliant synth play, while "Forkx" is a full on Motor City Soul epic. "Lost Empire" is an ambient outro whose brief duration has you begging for more.

Look At Where We Are (Four Tet remix)
Look At Where We Are (Four Tet dub mix)
Review: It's verging on the incomprehensible to consider the fact this limited 12" release of Look At Where We Are is only the second time Four Tet has remixed Hot Chip (discounting an effort for Joe Goddard's solo endeavour) given their enduring mutual ubiquity in the years since a Hebden remix appeared on a dinky 7" edition of Playboy. The time for a rekindling on wax is appropriate given Hebden's current run of remix form - he's been commissioned to remix roughly 76 per cent of acts you are likely to browse through on Pitchfork this year by our estimation. Alexis Taylor's cooing fragile vocal dominates the opening pitter pattering moments of the A Side Remix before a trademark dovetail into heavily percussive territory. The flipside Dub restricts Taylor's voice to a looped choral rendition, and fans of Hebden or musical soul mate Daphni will be all over this.

Video Days
Later Than U Think
Review: ** Repress from the ESP dons ** Being knee deep in the relentlessly productive operations at Rush Hour HQ is evidently having a positive creative effect on Marco Sterk, who continues to impress under his Young Marco alias. Video Days is the second EP Young Marco has delivered for Lovefingers' ever excellent ESP Institute this year and arrives soon after a wonderful remix of Michael Ozone. An esoteric and organic approach to the rhythmic elements of both the sublime title track and it's accompanying production "Later Than U Think" are apparently immediate, though it's Sterk's ear for knowing when to introduce new melodic and textural elements that really demonstrates what a talented producer he is turning into.

Nite Jam
Elixir Of Dreams
Review: The guys over at Rush Hour release Xosar's third EP - two, crispy-as-hell floor punishers with lethal doses of drum machine action. Both her previous EP for the label as well as that hot little number on L.I.E.S have turned some heads in the house/techno domain, and Nite Jam prolongs her fine form in 2012. The title track on the A Side is an incredibly chuggy slice of deep techno, complete with a hearty, pounding kick drum and a beautifully delayed set of chords which morph and sway uncontrollably. Over to side B, "Elixir Of Dreams" is one for the percussion maniacs, with those relentless snares cutting fervently through the muffled, haunting vocals which glide below it. Xosar's work just keeps getting better! TIP!

Operator Select (America, What Time Is Love?)
Review: Austin based producer Disco Nihilist makes a triumphant return to Running Back, having scored one of our favourite 12"s of last year with Running (Far Away). Two tracks shorter than his debut for Gerd Janson's reliably consistent label, but no less impressive, Moving Forward will captivate many from the moment the elasticated bass line of "House Rent Boogie" launches into action. From here, the track playfully swings from its jack hammering groove into moments of wondrously detuned synth solos. Alongside this, "Beatdown Drums" lays its rhythmic palette thick and hard, practically bruising your cochlea in the process, whilst flipside opener "Film Grain" is an equally intense exercise - though one that matches rasping hi hats with emotion laden keys. The tempo is eased to allow some respite on "Operator Please" a sprawling mass of thick 303 modulations and loose, tumbling drums.

Review: Forging his craft on a penchant for re-edits, Fred Berthet has issued forth a healthy amount of discoid funk in a short space of time since first appearing on Superbreak. Now he has been snapped up by Toy Tonics to deliver this four track EP which is packed full of craftily deployed house groove with plenty of classic reference points, not least the unmistakable 20th Century Steel Band lick on "Venusian Missing". "Angels Behind The Bar" is particularly sharp with its rich spread of samples and engrossing synth stabs creating a neon-lit fantasy around a crisp drum arrangement.
