Ra-Ako-St (extended edit - Todd Terje mix)
Eg-Ged-Osis (extended edit - Todd Terje mix)
Review: Lindstrom and Todd Terje are currently duking it out for title of "busiest Norse disco deity of 2012" and this latest release on Smalltown Supersound ensures the duo are level pegging as the year slips towards its close. Lindstrom is preparing to unleash his second LP of 2012 in the shape of the Terje assisted Smalhans - due out in November on Smalltown - and Terje extends two of the album's tracks as an exercise in high octane appetite whetting. Both "Ra-Ako-St" and "Ed-Ged-Osis" are typical Lindstrom; delightfully melodic, with an air of space disco pomposity, propelled forwards by the sort of dynamic, arpeggiated synthesizer lines that have become his trademark For the record, it's the rush-inducing "Ed-Ged-Osis" that impresses most - it's well Scandolearic, in case you wondered.

EditChannel XXX
Review: **REPRESS** Anyone worth their salt when it comes to contemporary disco should be able to work out the individual behind this stellar one sided edit, and for those Too Damn Blind to the obvious, we suggest a term enlisted in disco night school will get you up to speed. Apparently a secret weapon among a few of the finest disco selectors in New York and beyond for sometime now, "Edit Channel XXX" is a sublime example of disco editing at its finest. Various passages of the horn happy source are teased out and introduced, phased in and phased and complemented by some deft additional production touches from JV - it's meant for one purpose and achieves this with an aplomb that far too many edit labels never look close to matching these days.

Simulation (original)
Simulation (Mano Le Tough remix)
Simulation (dub mix)
Review: While Permanent Vacation might seem like an odd place for silky voiced Irish singer Roisin Murphy to make an appearance on at first glance, there's little doubt over the suitability of artist and label after slipping on "Simulation". Her many fans everywhere will rejoice at a track every bit as infectious as Moloko in their mid 90s pomp, and it's thanks to some brilliant production work from Crooked Man aka late 80s Sheffield icon Richard Barratt - formerly part of Bleep techno icons Sweet Exorcist. Keen observers of 12" releases within the realm of house and disco will no doubt be familiar with recent Crooked Man twelves and "Simulation" makes for another consummate example of Barrat's self styled fraudulent disco - that knackered kick drum alone should hook many a fan, while Roisin is as at her breathy best. Added versions come from Mano Le Tough and Eric Kupper but can't touch the imperious original.

Vicky D - "This Beat Is Mine" (Soul Clap remix) (7:47)
John Davis & The Monster Orchestra - "Up Jumped The Devil" (6th Borough Project Jumped Up Jam) (8:25)
Scandal - "Just Let Me Dance" (Maxxi Soundsystem remix) (8:30)
Review: This near-on faultless trio of tracks celebrates the very best of the Sam Records back cat with razor-sharp contemporisations by Soul Clap, 6th Borough Project and Maxxi Soundsystem. Soul Clap's take on Vicky D's "This Beat Is Mine" contains all the retro panache and sexy synth squiggles of the original. 6th Borough Project's version of John Davis's "Up Jumped Devil" brings the swashbuckling drums to fore as the groove takes an enviable extension. Finally Maxxi Soundsystem's rub of Scandal's "Just Let Me Dance" opts for a more stripped back early house motif. Each one an essential party piece.

How Do You Do? (album version)
How Do You Do? (Joe Goddard dub)
How Do You Do? (Todd Terje remix)
How Do You Do? (James Zabiela remix)
How Do You Do? (Mickey Moonlight remix)
How Do You Do? (Ossie remix)
Review: The lead single from Hot Chip's latest album gets the bumper double-pack remix treatment, with the original coming on strong in a Human League style synth-pop stormer. Joe Goddard's dub mix keeps the poppy tones, while Todd Terje keeps the romance high on his arpeggio-laden version. James Zabiela opts for a spacious tech house jam with a sprinkling of Chicago attitude over it, Mickey Moonlight flies in a light and breezy funk overdub, but it's left to Ossie to bring the real excitement as he chops into a delirious house cut heavy on the edit and even heavier on the funk.

Ultracity - "Delta"
Mark E - "Walk With Me"
Prins Thomas - "Stockholm Express"
Bogdan Irkuk aka Bulgari - "I Was On"
Review: Prins Thomas, Mark E, Bulgari and Ultra City all feature on Epic Disco Vol 2, the long overdue return to the twelve inch game from the Rollerboys imprint. Label supremos Ultra City aka Elias & Yourhighness open proceedings in excellent fashion with the resplendent "Delta" a richly rewarding exercise in effervescent Chicago house based around instantly uplifting piano tones and loose cascading Roland 707 patterns - instant dancefloor uplift guaranteed on this one. Merc boss Mark E follows with the deeper sounds of "Walk With Me" utilising a familiar vocal refrain amidst a musical arrangement that pairs subtle elements such as heart warming chords with the more intense synths. Flip over and Prins Thomas introduces a lesson in the art of infinite build via the primal, stripped down 303 jam "Stockholm Express" which has us rather excited for his forthcoming new album. Rollerboys regular Bulgari eases down the tempo to finish with a echo laden electro boogie future classic in the shape of "I Was On".

Jame 3:26 - "Can You Feel It"
Boogie Nite - "Earth To Mickey"
Boogie Nite - "Do Your Thang"
Boogie Nite - "Sexy Sexy Sexy"
Review: **Repress** The Lumberjacks in Hell imprint does a great job in sniffing out dancefloor-friendly re-edits and reworks that eschew the usual tried-and-tested formulas. This latest missive features a mixed bag of reliably groovesome oddities. There's the disco-jazz madness of Jamie 326's "Can You Feel It", and three wide-eyed bangers from the hitherto unknown Boogie Nite. Of these, the most obviously upbeat is the loopy funk/soul strut of "Do Your Thang" and James Brown-ish "Sexy Sexy Sexy". Most interesting of all, though is "Earth Calling Mickey", a Balearic disco weird-out that sits somewhere between oddball house and head-nodding disco.

Rayko - "Wait (Sunny Delight)"
Alkalino - "Give Me Your Love"
78 Edits - "Can't Have My Love"
The LEgendary 1979 Orchestra - "Burning (Oh Baby)"
Review: Straight up disco action right here on the first sampler in a new series, which arrives with driving 70s edits from four talented producers. First up, Rayko delivers "Wait (Sunny Delight)", an irresistibly hummable party tune for the summer months; this is followed by "Give Me You Love" by Alkalino, a more funk oriented affair with a charming vocal and a wonderful slice of percussion. 78 Edits do their thing on the B Side with "Can't Have My Love", giving us that classic early 80s sound and finally, The Legendary 1979 Orchestra re-work "Burning (Oh Baby)", taking a more experimental approach that bases itself on the early electro vibe. Big tunes.

Gee Up (Erol Alkan extended rework)
Gee Up (Femnrg 1:56 mix)
Review: The 1 min and 47 sec of bliss that is "Gee Up" remains a real highlight of the multi-faceted delight that is the debut Kindness LP, despite the fact it finishes soon after it finds its languid disco groove. The paucity of official remixes of the track can be explained by front man Adam Bainbridge's aversion to their current trend, being little more than marketing content. The honour of remixing the track is bestowed up Erol Alkan, whose previous seminal efforts for the likes of Franz Ferdinand, Justice, Connan Mockasin and more certainly justify such reasoning. The resultant Extended Rework is sublime too, matching the original's subtlety and groove, while also implementing all new live instrumental touches across nearly seven minutes. One of those rare occasions where improvement on perfection is achieved.

Midnite Special (original dub)
Midnite Special (Quiet Storm dub)
Midnite Special (Mrk Dynamite dub)
Review: Given that last year's first Parkway Rhythm 12" was such a roaring success, it's little surprise to see Mark Seven's homage to dubbed-out New York electrofunk and proto-house return for a second outing. "Midnight Special" is, if anything, even more authentic-sounding than "Working Girl". Here, the acclaimed digger delivers three contrasting versions. The "Original Dub" sounds like a long lost Serious Intention/Paul Simpson production, while the "Quiet Storm Dub" wanders off on a smooth, Loose Ends-meets-Prince electrofunk tip. The MRK Dynamite Dub that completes the package is, arguably, the best of the three, sounding like a cross between early '80s NYC proto-garage and Nu Groove era deep house. The whole package is ace, basically.

Synthesize
Spaghetti Voodoo
Cabin Cruising
Review: Another round of superb KM Editions edits from the Keyboard Masher - last seen turning out for Resista - and this fourth volume might be the best so far. The work of Todd the God is praised on the languid "Synthesize" with the famous singer's voice woozily sat deep beneath the luxuriant, saturated grove treated with all manner of echo and reverb FX by the Keyboard Masher. Those that know will bask in the subtle yet effective methods employed to transform the source, while those who don't should feel compelled to investigate further. Complementing this "Spaghetti Voodoo" is a moog heavy disco dub delight that contains the best cymbal break from recent memory, while "Cabin Cruising" might just be the best version of "For Your Love" thus far (and there's been plenty mate).

Review: Having previously made his name as a purveyor of filter-heavy electrofunk re-edits for such labels as Disco Deviance, Tribute and Bedmo Disco, Aussie Rocco Raimundo has now set his sights on taking the step into original production. Here, he offers up an excellent EP of original - if sample-heavy - material for House of Disco. Like previous HOD outings, there's a reliance on touchy-feely '80s soul and electrofunk sounds, cut-up vocals and sumptuous deep house grooves. With plenty of added delay and his usual impeccable filters, there's much to enjoy, from the familiar synth-disco bump of "Keep On Keepin On", to the eyes-wide-shut gorgeousness of "Night Moves".

Black Shoes White Socks (Cajmere mix)
Black Shoes White Socks (Waff mix)
Review: The prospect of an appearance from veteran house funsters Freaks on Hot Creations is enough to make even the most sour-faced disco miserablist go weak at the knees. Predictably, "Black Shoes White Socks" is a whole lot of fun, a kind of sparkling house update of classic boogie mixed with cheery new wave synth-pop. With a strong vocal, snaking saxophones and hooky synths, it's both a proper song (shock) and defiantly dancefloor-friendly. Even more exciting - certainly for those of a certain vintage - is the addition of a Cajmere remix. Lacing the original sax and vocals over a sturdy acid house groove, it's the perfect accompaniment to the grandiose original.

Perfect Systems (Steve Summers remix)
Hetrotopia (Young Marco remix)
Review: Mystery Australian producer Michael Ozone proves his time in the ESP Institute was not temporary as the two tracks from his must check Perfect Systems get twisted in all new directions by Young Marco and Steve Summers. In original form, Ozone's productions were a deliciously idiosyncratic blend of Giallo and early eighties European New Beat and both remixers excel in retaining the feel of the source while stamping their own sonic personalities on them. L.I.E.S. mainstay Summers tackles the title track, increasing the Italo drama markedly amidst loose drum programming and thick analogue bass and adding a further sense of menace via his own masked and echoed vocals. Complementing this, Rush Hour's secret weapon Young Marco retains the mysticism inherent in "Hetrotopia" but adds his own dense murky dub laden embellishments.
