Breakwater - "Release The Beast"
Edwin Birdsong - "Cola Bottle Baby"
Review: Two more of the most famous tracks sampled by Daft Punk get pressed up on this cheeky little 7 inch. Breakwater's "Release The Beast" is unmistakably the blueprint for "Robot Rock" while "Cola Bottle Baby" by Edwin Birdsong was liberally sampled by Guy-Manuel and Tommy B on "Harder Better Stronger Faster". Both delicious funky disco cuts in their own right and great fun to drop!

BT Express - "Peace Pipe" (Theo Parrish Edit)
Jackie Beavers - "Mr Bumpman (Give Me A Hand)" (Theo Parrish Edit)
Review: We're in the midst of the Theo fever at Juno HQ with the Detroit don already provided the office with some staunch listening material in the shape of his Stop Bajon edit and Amerie meets Lil Louis blend. The real gold is delivered unto us in the form of the long overdue eleventh edition of Parrish's highly prized Ugly Edits series some six years after the last volume. Anyone who's worried their bank manager by indulging in previous Ugly Edits releases will know the score here, bottom heavy druggy refixes of some of Parrish's favourite soul and disco tracks that focus on embellishing your senses with lustful energy. The A Side sees Theo mess with "Peace Pipe" by BT Express, chopping the vocals up before dousing the groove in a swathe of echoey reverb and then ascending into the track proper. Real sweaty warehouse vibes on this one! The flipside sees Parrish a long sought after standard from his DJ sets in the shape of "Mr Bumpman" by Johnny Beavers. A less frenetic counterpart to the percussive beast that is the A Side, Parrish's "Mr Bumpman" is all about keeping that killer disco funk groove locked in, which is achieved with effortless aplomb.

Migration
Keepin' On
Give It To Me
Days Like These
Review: Upfront copies of new Eddie C jams on the excellent Japanese label Sound Of Speed! There's always an undeniable class to any track the prolific Canadian producer puts his name to and that standard is definitely maintained on this sumptuous EP. "Migration" demonstrates the C Meister's ease at chopping samples, dicing up a string heavy soul track to fit the bumping mid tempo beat, whilst "Keepin On" is all mellow, closer to a butter hip-hop instro than disco! On the flip, "Give It To Me" jumps to a more familiar tempo marrying a infectious guitar led groove augmented by husky female vocals to a taut beat with plenty of drops into heavy filtered bass. The final moments are dedicated to the Rhodes heavy slo vibes of "Days Like These". Killer 12".

Repetition
Repetition (John Daly remix)
Final (Art Of Tones remix)
Review: The ever impressive Instruments Of Rapture reaches its seventh release with more chucky disco-meets-house music, this time from Evan Evans. "Repetition" takes up a whole 12 inches of wax on the A Side, and it's a sparkling piano-lead slow jam, reminiscent of Trickski's recent "Pill Collins" 12" on Suol. The glacial beats gently arrive at a glorious crescendo - the brief drop into a brief guitar lick toward the end is particularly memorable. Flip over for remixes from John Daly, who gives "Repetition" a punchy rework, while Art Of Tones rounds off the 12" with a remix of "Final" which boasts a farty, low slug riff.

Memoryman - "Ain't No Big Edit"
LTJ - "All Night"
Review: The Italian stranglehold on the world of disco edits continues with this latest offering from the Oh Christo! camp. Their previous excursion onto wax gleaned support from cowbell aficionados the world over, and this one is likely to do the same. LTJ rules the B Side with burning late night funk of "All Night" which is characterised by a chunky kick drum and female vocal snap bathed in echo and reverb. Memoryman's "Ain't No Big Edit" grabs hold of a killer guitar lick which rises into the fray from a locked in groove.

Mango
Too Much Party
Jump Street
Beat Shave
Review: No chance to pause for breath when it comes to On The Prowl - with the wax barely dry on the freshly pressed Andy Ash 12", we are treated to the fourth instalment in the Party Breaks series from the (semi) mysterious Simoncino. A record collector of some repute, Siomncino has already popped up with releases on Italian edits stable No More Hits, and here takes the Party Breaks sound into new territory with four killer analogue jams. A Side opener "Mango" takes on a deepish hue which contrasts nicely with the funk-infused melody of "Too Much Party". Flip over for the 80s boogie vibe of "Jump Street" before "Beat Shave" winds things up amidst a sea of killer vocal refrains and a delicious reverberating synth stab.

Get On Down
Get Up, Get It On
Review: Greg Wilson digs into his enviable record collection and dusts down two superlative pre disco era funk/soul cuts, embellishing them with a sprinkling of dancefloor panache on the latest Ruff Edits twelve. "Get On Down" teases out Willie Henderson's "The Dance Master" expertly, creating an extended intro but never losing the dirt-encrusted feel of the original's bass heavy organ lead groove. This is complemented by the soaring heights of "Get Up, Get It On" which reworks "Happiness Is Just Around The Bend" by The Main Ingredient, a track that sits closer to the first days of disco thanks to the heady orchestral elements that veer throughout.

Retrospective
Endless Disco (Steve Kotey remix)
Review: Redux stalwart Fernando returns to the stylish disco imprint, and the 2020 Soundsystem man maintains his past form (which includes a particularly memorable Bauhaus cover) with this 12" crammed with low slung delights. Fernando's own guitar playing and vocals permeate both original tracks here, with the languid disco strut of "Endless Disco" taking care of business on the A Side. The BPM is reeled in for "Retrospective", which is characterised by killer live percussion: this one will have the slo-mo disco heads swooning with delight. Elsewhere Bear Funk boss Steve Kotey chimes in with a remix of the title track, imbuing it with an immensely pleasing thumping house kick. And to top it off, the release comes housed in some of the best artwork we've seen all year. Round of applause to Redux!

Ysae Eid (Club Silencio & The Heels Of Love edit)
Piggy Thing (I:Cube edit)
The Bull (Jimi Bazzouka edit)
Whasubi (The Heels Of Love edit)
Review: The imperious I'm A Cliche imprint overseen by Cosmo Vitelli deliver the fifth instalment of Cliche Breaks edits and like the previous instalments Vitelli has outsourced editing duties to some more than capable and familiar names. Italian duo The Heels Of Love feature prominently, teaming up with compatriots Club Silencio for the opening track "Ysae Eid" which sounds like an odd balearic cover version of The Doobie Brothers. Legendary French house producer I:Cube follows with the locked groove percussive house dynamics of "Piggy Thing", a sadly all too short track filled with reverberant glee. The standard is maintained on the flip where Jimi 'Joakim' Bazzouka delivers "The Bull", a sizzling edit of a late seventies Spanish flamenco heavy disco thumper that gets embellished with plenty of tape edit swerve by the Tigersushi boss. The Heels Of Love go solo for the final entry "Whasubi" which melds a thumping spinal proto house beat to a dusted folk rock track brilliantly.

Yesterday Is Dead
Wild Combination
Mango
Strange Fruit
Review: After recent appearances on DFA and Golf Channel, Portuguese producer Tiago makes it a hat-trick of Juno's favourite boutique imprints with this collection of tracks for ESP Institute. Presented under the alias of Sea Power & Change and dedicated to the memory of controversial New York graffiti artist Dash Snow, Tiago draws on all his production skills to deliver some powerfully melancholic moments. The heavily drugged piano lines that fracture and multiply over the shuddering beat of "Wild Combination" in particular endow your senses with a feeling of impending menace. "Mango" offers solace with the slick guitar and porn gilded soft rock melodies that breeze over the industrial drums, whilst "Strange Fruit" delivers some hypnotic synth work, augmented by the most chilling of piano melodies and underlying orchestral peril. Arriving in bespoke cover art from Mario Hugo with a hue to match the melancholia of the music, this is another winner from the good people at ESP Institute.

Synchronize (feat Jarvis Cocker - extended version)
Singular (feat Mathias Aguayo - extended version)
Review: Amidst the swathe of lists that inevitably clutter up the internet each and every year, a category rising in the popularity stakes seems to be 'worst artwork', which is fair enough as there's plenty of fuel for the fire. As admirers of the arts though, we'd rather concentrate on beauty than horror, and Gallic label D-I-R-T-Y make a fashionably late play for the affections of vinyl fetishists across the world with this Extended EP from Discodeine. Arriving in a ten inch sleeve which is covered in some decidedly spectral artwork - a illustrative rendition of The Divine Comedy by Gustav Dore for the less culturally enlightened - the vinyl itself is adorned in the most attractively electric of blue colours. The music proves to be just as aesthetically pleasing with two extended versions of the duo's collaborations with two feted musicians adorning both sides. The A Side sees "Synchronised" the gloriously orchestral collaboration with Jarvis Cocker stretched to fit making this release the more bespoke attractive alternative to the rather plain house bag DJ edition released by DFA last month. This is complemented by an extended version of "Singular" which features the hushed tones of Comeme boss Matias Aguayo, exclusive to this ten inch which marks it as a highly collectable and a suitably delectable aperitif before the main course of Discodeine's debut album which gets served up in February.

Say It Baby
Catch A Dub
Don't Stop
The Word Of God
Review: Deadly Sin return with the fourth volume of Giant Cuts, laying down some granite weight tweaks of 100bpm+ disco for the warm up slots on a rather sleek clear vinyl twelve inch. "Say It Baby" drops some heavily phased Eighties post disco heat with plenty of fat Linn action and the requisite bassline hug whilst "Catch A Dub" twists down multiple neon synth oscillations around a heavy disco boogie groove. The heavy filtered disco vibes run over to the B Side with "Don't Stop" laying down several bars of undulating vocal frequencies before locking into a sludgy arpeggiated groove, whilst fans of Larry Levan's greatest work (or was it Walter Gibbons?) will be all over the mix friendly edit of Joubert Singers that ends this release.

All This (Chicken Lips Malfunction!)
All This (original)
Review: With news of Beni's debut album on Modular announced this week, the other half of defunct Aussie duo Riot In Belgium - now producing under the Nile Delta pseudonym - pops up with a rather tasty new 12 inch on Cut Copy's Cutters imprint. The sun-drenched house-isms of "Channel" roll elegantly into fellow A Side offering "All This", which sees some pretty tasty remix action on the flip. The Chicken Lips malfunction is an acid tinged chugger, while Australian producer Tornado Wallace chimes in with a boompty mid tempo house workout.
