Velez
Rendering
Review: Despite being one third of the Livity Sound live show alongside Peverelist and Kowton, Asusu has only one entry in their label's discography, the excellent Sister 12? which was released at the tail end of 2011 which paired the WAX style house of the title cut with some flipside brooding garage-techno mechanics. After numerous Livity drops from Pev or Kowton, Asusu returns to the fore in glorious fashion with Velez, which continues his label associates recent lineage of grime and jungle-inspired productions. "Velez" sees Asusu experiment more with weighty broken techno rhythms, all stitched together with tumbling percussion of the jungle-inspired variety, while "Rendering" is a more typical deep house track characterised by its dubby Bristolian textures.

Ice Drift (Stalker mix)
Pulsed
Slower Degrees Of Separation
Review: Given the busy, junked up collage nature of his two albums for Planet Mu as Ital, Daniel Martin-McCormack and Workshop might not feel like the most immediate of bed fellows. However the 18th Workshop release sees the celebrated American producer return to the sort of music he was exploring on the excellent Culture Clubs 12" for his own Lovers Rock label in 2011 and indeed adopt some of the dustier, stripped back traits of the label. The slow beatwork of "Ice Drift (Stalker mix)" comes joined with warm tones and trippy textures, the ambient "Slower Degrees Of Separation" has all the hallmarks of a Madteo instrumental, while "Pulsed" offers the most dancefloor focused cut.

Damnson
Review: We've been eagerly anticipating new material from Helix since the long-awaited Stacks Riddim appeared on All Caps last year, and an entry into Night Slugs' Club Constructions discography is about as welcome a return as we could have hoped for. The five tracks represent the biggest statement the Atlanta producer's made to date, and sees him get an opportunity to refine his grime/techno sound into something purer still; the machine gun drums of "Whoose Ice Dispenser", rough, ascending pitch-shifted chords of "Track Titled 1" and toolish ADD jack of "Linn Jam" take the stripped back approach, while "Linn Jam (With Synth)" and "Damnson" smear their gritty drums with viscous, noisy synth textures - either way, this is killer stuff.

Review: The original enfant terrible of the bass music world marks his second long player for 4AD with a sprawling opus of more than 30 skits and skirmishes daubed in his trademark colourful sonic scrawl. There is plenty here that reminds you of the early days of the producer's emergence when dubstep was a younger beast, from the spacious "Horrid" to the measured arpeggios of "Pray For Me", but you'll also find more intricate musings such as the dynamic and dramatic "Memories". Hype abounds on the creepy Funky of "VI-XI", while "Overdose" launches enthusiastically into a jungle tear out. At any given turn, you'll find yourself surprised, lurched from a serene mood into a manic one, only to be tempered again. There's a staggering range of ideas and styles to comprehend here, but would you want it any other way from one of electronic music's most outspoken upstarts?

Manabadman (feat Spikey Tee)
Ghosts
Duppies
Get Wyld
Review: In a rich and varied career thus far, collaborations and pseudonyms have characterised the multi faceted work of Mark Pritchard with Troubleman, Global Communication, Africa Hi-Tech and Harmonic 313 just four that spring to mind. No more it seems, as Pritchard aligns on Warp for a series of 12" releases under his given name that look to include all facets of his sonic palette in the lead up to a full album. The four track Ghosts 12" kicks this exciting phase off; The A Side pairs the ragga bruk styles of "Manabadman" with the hyper-kinetic footwork-Dtown Techno hybridity of the title track, whilst on the flip "Duppies" is a mammoth duel between 'ardcore sonics and Juke rhythmics - watch out for that bassline!! Final cut "Get Wyld" winds down the mood for a thuggish Dystopian half step finish.

Drift (feat Schumen)
Deeper
Review: Two excellent pieces of bass-tickled house music right here from Brighton-based club culture hub BBB. "Drift" is the more straight-up jacking house affair with slap-down beats, twinkling arpeggios and a phased bass pump that flutters on the kicks, "Deeper", ironically, is a lot heavier with its loopy vocal hook, steppy beats and Bovril-thick bass dynamics. With support from artists as disparate as VonStroke to Tensnake, the release's accessibility and quality speak for themselves.

Strike A Pose
Bellz (Swing Ting remix)
Bellz
Review: Rising talent Beneath follows serious plate action for Tectonic and Keysound with the triple hitting EP of "Anti-Masonic ritual music" for Niche 'n' Bump. Run by one third of London club Wifey, Niche 'n' Bump launched in style last year with a 12" from Spatial and tapping up Beneath demonstrates the label remains on point as ever. By the sound of it, lead track "Strike A Pose" is less likely to be a Madonna reference, more a nod to MC Trim, focusing on a rather incendiary blend of 90's bleep rave, subtly rippling bass and the producer's trademark snaking percussion. As the Niche 'n' Bump press release succinctly states "this track is recommended for mixing by skilled DJs". Unlike the recent Pev and Hodge track of the (nearly) same name, "Bellz" has bell tones in abundance and also gets a rather fine refix from Swing Ting.

Review: XTEP marks the first u-Ziq material from Mike Paradinas in some six years and precedes the release of a full album later from the Planet Mu boss due out this year. Having been coaxed away from his fine curation of Planet Mu over recent years with the Heterotic project done in cahoots with wife Lara Rix-Martin, Paradinas returns to his universally recognised u-Ziq project with this five track EP which seem to present a diverse and accessible snapshot of Paradinas' production palette, veering through smudged out analogue funk, gauzy piano house, pulsing electronic disco and more rhythmically diverse material. This would seem to justify Planet Mu's claim that Paradinas has abandoned "the furrow-browed quest for cutting-edge exploration, exchanging it for an altogether more carefree fun approach".

Bipp (3:49)
Elle (3:47)
Review: Whilst Bipp has arrived out of nowhere, the fact vaguely mysterious UK producer Sophie is releasing on Glaswegian label Numbers should not come as a surprise. Numbers figurehead Jackmaster has been a fan of Sophie's music for a while, caning that Auntie Flo remix from last year and providing an official dub version Sophie's ubiquitous Huntleys & Palmers release "Nothing More To Say". With a clear mastery of dancefloor sounds filled with vivid colour, Sophie's Numbers debut makes even more sense given the label's last hyperactive release from Rustie. Lead track "Bipp" sounds like 90s diva house mangled and applied to a trap template, whilst "Elle" swings with a drunken sizzurp swagger.

Terror Danjah - "Glide"
Terror Danjah & Champion - "Stone Island"
Champion - "Bowser's Castle"
Terror Danjah & Champion - "Explode"
Review: It's grime o'clock at Hyperdub HQ as Terror Danjah and Champion square-off with some midrange baiting badness as cheeky and rude as you would expect from two masters of the art. Danjah's "Glide" actually struts on a peppy 4/4 rhythm, but the synths keep things dutty whilst there are plenty of quirks stitched into the beat. Champion's template on "Bowser's Castle" is broader, with fulsome melodies and a dextrous switch between ring modulating bassline throw downs and glossy synth refrains. In both instances the collaborations between the two bring a more hectic style full of clattering percussion and urgent tempos, clearly fed on the energy of shared studio time.

Review: ** Repress from the Livity Sound dons **The Bristol based Livity Sound imprint, run by Peverelist, Kowton and Asusu, is fast becoming a buy on sight label thanks to releases which seem to pay no attention to genre or fads, swerving between raw house, experimental dubstep and swung techno from record to record. This time round it's Kowton's turn to step up, and on the A-Side absolutely rips it up with the track's turn of the century grime strings and savage claps which sound like a more brooding version of Helix's recent drop on Night Slugs. On the flip he strips it right back with a thumping percussive creeper which makes impressive use of the most sparing of elements which would no doubt be best served in the darkest of basements. Awe inspiring stuff.

Review: A contemporary of Dance Mania artists DJ Deeon and DJ Slugo in the 90s, RP Boo is credited as a founding father of the footwork genre; his Ol' Dirty Bastard sampling track from 1997, "Baby Come On", is widely regarded as the track responsible for spawning the genre. Having released footwork albums from Young Smoke and Traxman in recent times, Planet Mu look to this godfather for their latest full length project. Even within the small footwork scene Legacy is a unique album; taking the sample wizardry to far out, often abstracted places, RP Boo nevertheless grounds his experimentalism with easily recognisable samples (Justin Timberlake, Queen), making his productions as raucous as they are idiosyncratic. Essential stuff.

Jahovia (Emma & Wil LV dub mix)
Review: There's some great momentum building up around the return of one of jungle's most influential forefathers. With his Congo Natty album ready to roll on Big Dada, Rebel MC gives up a slice of time for exciting new bass prospect E.M.M.A. Laying down an icy, old school breakbeat bed with emphatic synthetic harmonies, E.M.M.A's provided Rebel with the perfect playground to orate his distinctive depths and wisdom. Complete with a sharp, steppy dub from E.M.M.A and Wil LV, Keysound have delivered something very special here and bodes well for her forthcoming album.

Klic & Riskotheque - "Compton"
Donga & Blake - "Compton Give A Dam Jam"
Donga, Blake & Richta - "Skeleton Grin"
Review: 877 Records and the Well Rounded crew... It's a match made in subversive bass, ghetto and techno heaven. Klic and Riskotheque lead from the front with a cut that's been doing the rounds in various shapes and forms for over two years - with a badass vocal booty-bass vocal, crisp acid and jacking 808s, its instant party material. Donga & Blake follow with a funkier, 4/4 remix that makes even better use of the well-known vocal sample. "Skeleton Grin" completes the set on an uncompromising note as Richta adds a much darker techno flavour to proceedings. Heaviness.

Inside Of Me
Unity
Review: It's been a while since King Thing last surfaced, and now he does so with a fresh EP of hybrid beats for Millions Of Moments UK, the spin-off label of more bass orientated business. These particular tracks twitch with intricacy as they occupy a space somewhere near electro, not least on lead track "Never Say Never". With a snappy square wave bass line and a killer stop-start groove, well-placed chords and snippet samples inject a little soul into the machinations as the track develops. "Inside Of Me" opts for a more old-school flavoured stab as its central hook, relegating the beat to the bottom of the pecking order in favour of a sizable chord and another plethora of curious found sounds. "Unity" rounds things off with a catchy workout that revolves around a woodblock melody and a cyclical patter of technoid beats.

Review: Young Echo have been one of Bristol's most interesting creative forces to emerge in the past few years; comprised of Vessel, El Kid, Kahn, and the Zhou duo of Jabu and Ishan Sound, their music collectively calls on many influences, including house, techno, dub, grime and drone. The results are a heady cocktail that's often far more experimental than the music of most of their peers in the city, but still resolutely part of Bristol's rich musical heritage. Following solo successes across labels such as Punch Drunk, left_blank, Astro:Dynamics and Tri Angle, Young Echo gather together this compilation of unreleased works for the RAMP label, some thirteen tracks deep with the identity of who is responsible for each very much a mystery. Regardless Nexus does hammer home the fact that Young Echo are the clearest continuation of the Bristol sound in present times.

If I Was To
Hazed
Review: Ably assisted by the evergreen Ninjatune, new UK imprint Technicolour have quietly become one of the more interesting labels to surface in the past 12 months jettisoning hard to pigeon hole material from Micachu keyboardist Raisa K, female post dubstepper Kid A and now BRTSH KNIGHTS. If I Was To represents the first official release from the South London collective and they come across like Disclosure with a much needed injection of 'ardcore rudeness. The title track in particular swings with a vicious slickness that's immediately gratifying, whilst the "reciprocate" vocal hook adds that much needed extra edge of addiction. "Hazed" meanwhile is a dark, smokey slice of R&B powered by reverse snares that feel influenced by Jam City's piston like rhythmics.

Review: Welcome to the "Pleasure Dome". Your host this evening will be emerging London-based bass aficionado Jamie Hustle. The title track is a deep hypnosis session with a spiralling bass melody that twists and turns with meditative effect. Meanwhile on the flip, Jamie has organised a full body workout, the good old fashioned Detroit way; with its icy stabs, cheeky slapping beats and tickling synth pads, "One Objektive" is guaranteed to get you moving.
