Review: In recent years American imprint Kolour have fast become an institution of sorts, known for purveying quality grooves of the deeper spectrum. Their new compilation A Tale Of 2 Cities no doubt refers to both Detroit and Houston (the two cities from where the label is based) but rest assured that on this compilation their focus is absolutely global. There's a lot to cover on here, but we can tell you it's all good. Our highlights weren't limited to the bittersweet and emotive deepness of Ugly Drums & Lady BlackTronika's "Change The Key", Kiwi slo-mo house hero Frank Booker with his smooth Rhodes heavy groove "Unburdened", Canuck in Berlin Eddie C with the wicked low slung groove of "All Time Freak" and of course former Bent main man Simon Mills aka Napoleon who works more disco magic as always with the fabulous "Over & Done".

The Fatal Flaw In Disco (Saxapella) (2:54)
Never Leave (original) (6:53)

Review: World Building is the new label from Beautiful Swimmer Ari Goldman and it gets off to a veritable flyer with The Fatal Flaw In Disco from the master Mark Seven. Proprietor of Parkway and Parkwest Records, Seven is among the most highly respected of record dealers and DJs and a fine choice to kick off World Building. We've been massive fans of the Parkway tackle here at Juno HQ and hopefully this banging 12" will retrospectively see collectors and selectors dig back through the label. Some five tracks deep, The Fatal Flaw In Disco sees the Stockholm-based Seven continue to explore his love of classic US deep house with the sax-addled pump of "The Fatal Flaw In Disco (U-4-Ria)" a considered highlight. If you've seen the Swimmers at any festival jam this summer you should be familiar with the cuts on this 12" and expect to hear them in the dance a lot more as the year goes on. Big record.

Better (5:23)
Fever (5:27)
Review: Mood Hut have been coy about revealing details of the producers behind this latest missive of sun-kissed goodness, though it's fair to assume that they're closely associated with Chris Wang and JLM's Love Dancing parties in Vancouver. The two tracks, which sound like edits with a sprinkling of additional production and complimentary musical touches, were apparently created back in 2009, during the event's formative stages. The breezy, melodious and deliciously positive "Better" is undoubtedly the standout, fusing as it does analogue-rich deep house positivity with extensive samples of an old disco cut. Flipside "Fever" sprints further towards straight-up disco territory, expertly re-editing a heavily percussive, piano-heavy workout.

Soundstream - "Aqua Dance" (6:47)
Soundstudio - "Track 440" (5:09)
Soundhack - "What You Feel" (4:59)
Soundstore - "Relief" (5:52)
Review: YES. This is exactly what we need after the end of a long summer, and what has been a period of relatively lower releasing activity in the house and techno sphere. A new Soundstream bruiser to add to what is surely one of the most impressive catalogues around. The last one that was released a year or so ago was excellent, but this four-tracker is even better, bolder, and nastier. Moreover, you get four cuts from four different Soundstream aliases, so you know you're in for the score. "Aqua Dance" is an addictive disco slinger with that magic Soundstream sampling touch, but from "Track 440" onwards, things start to turn a little more off-kilter, and that tune itself is a fuzzy, distorted disco-house hybrid that perfectly encapsulates the Soundstudio alias. The same can be said for the Soundhack-approved "What You Feel", a wavy disco mutant that is of the same ilk as Pepe Bradock's material, while Soundstore's "Relief" is a more classic house spliff packed with banging drums and guided by a deep, sweltering bass. Essential.

Metallo Nero (7:08)
Hundred Fingers Man (7:10)

Gabula (5:52)
Review: Just over a year ago Phil Lauer teamed up with Fab Mammarella for the Italo-German disco delights of Black Spuma with Mark Barrott's International Feel label a perfect home for their debut transmission together. Thankfully it was no one-off as Intl Feel find some room in a busy 2016 schedule for some fresh Black Spuma produce from the pair with this Onda four-tracker. Fans of crystalline, glistening house music will be in raptures when they hear lead cut "Metallo Nero" which brings to mind Max D's LARJ classic "Polo (Extended Version)", albeit doused in Balearic dust. From here the duo gently amble through mid-tempo Wally Badarou does Beat Down Acid on "Hundred Fingers Man," before a notable upturn in tempo for the effervescent house bliss of the title track. To close, Black Spuma introduce some breakbeats into the mix for the delicious off-kilter "Gabula" which should appeal to fans of Hashman Deejay.

Just Wanna (6:15)
Movin' Thru (5:49)
Review: It's been a quiet year for Kai Alce, but finally the Atlanta house hero returns with a new pair of tracks that will surely satisfy any fans of his instinctive, expressive take on club-ready deep house. This latest drop comes on Sounds Of The City, which has also supported the likes of Walt J and Brian Harden. "Just Wanna" is a sure and steady workout peppered with woozy chords and a nagging vocal lick, but "Movin Thru" is surely the record's stand-out moment. With just the right balance between the edgy chords and the rounded bassline, it's a simple cocktail that plays to Alce's strengths perfectly.

Pluck Away (4:28)
Review: More than a few deep house DJs will be getting a little over-excited at the prospect of this Andres 12" on La Vida. It's the hyped Detroit producer's first outing since last year's tasty Believin' EP, and is as jazzy, positive and floor-friendly as you'd expect. The title track is the epitome of summer deep house, with the producer making great use of samples from an old, piano-heavy jazz-funk number. "Chevy Status" is a groovy, head-nodding, disco-influenced deep house shuffler featuring some familiar old school vocal samples, while "Pluck Away" sees him layer Balearic style acoustic guitars and sweeping string samples over a metronomic house groove. Yep, it's another must-have from Andres.

Boogie Down (8:09)
In The Light (8:06)
Review: We would never be ones to challenge the importance and authority of Chicago's infamous Prescription label, a project in which Ron Trent played a fundamental role, but his more recent years on the Music And Power label aren't exactly a million miles away. This is true both in sound and general aesthetic, where Trent opts to communicate his thoughts and feelings through the medium of music. "Boogie Down", as the title suggests, is a little more funky and bass-heavy compared to his more usual deep house flex, but it makes for a welcome change to his catalogue, and any boogie made by Ron Trent is just fine with us. On the flip, "In The Light" is full of rigged percussion samples, wavy piano keys, and a jazzy bass tone, in what makes for a splendidly groovy disco-house cut. Lovely, as always, and you'll dig this if you're a fan of Kyle Hall and his output on Wild Oats.

Mr Fiel - "Sunset On The Moon" (6:03)
Gnork x Luv Jam - "Troppppixxxx" (6:27)
Jimini - "Back To Reality" (6:45)
Review: Blind Jacks Journey is a genuinely fresh and provocative UK house label that stands apart from the rest of the material coming out of the British Isles. Curiously, the name is based on John Metclaf, a famous engineer from Yorkshire who also went by the name of Blind Jack of Knaresborough, and that's exactly the sort of humorous edge that runs through the label...something that we're always find of. It's all about chilled, placid house here, and RNR drops two stellar doses of the stuff in "Moments" and "Moments Vox Tool", a pair of sensual dance scorchers that sound improvisational yet perfectly happy and balanced in their minimalism. Mr Fiel's "Sunset On The Moon" is a similar sort of lick except that here the percussion is more tribal and the sounds less solitary, but the flipside by Gnork and Luv Jam, named "Troppppixxxx", is what we would call an 'utter winner'; it's the sort of house tune with that subtle acid sway and just the right amount of balearic charm. Jimini's "Back To Reality" completes the picture with a deep and dubby missile for those after-hour sets. Tip!

Fittin' & Turnin' (All Day) (5:41)
Review: While Fantastic Man's material has been in and out of our shelves since 2011, it was this year's LP for Paris' Antinote that really grabbed our attention. "Rhythm Algorithm" for Superconscious follows a similarly wacked-out vision of house, and the title track itself is a stunning bullet made of ricocheting percussion and spectral melodies. "Trance Sexual" is a bumping, Chicago-leaning house banger that'll mix like perfection into just about anything, whereas "Fittin' & Turnin' (All Day)" is deconstructed by comparison, a hypnotic and highly frenetic sort of house jacker that rings and twists frantically from start to finish. Class.

People Music (bonus beats) (3:40)
Review: US deep house master Patrice Scott steps out of his own Sistrum Recordings label and lands on the Detroit-laden People Of Earth for a sublime three-track excursion. "Odyss Dance" is a classic Scott joint, a deep and ethereal house experiment that instantly gives off the producer's signature feel of mystique, best described as a 'dubby haze'. "People Music" is a little brighter, a little warmer around the edges, thanks to an uplifting synth riding solo in the upper edges of the mix, and a funky bassline driving the engine beneath. There's also a 'bonus beats' version as a final slice of magic, where Scott adds a layer of tribalistic percussion to an already ritualistic drum pattern. Another Patrice Scott blinder.

Review: Last year, Sophie "Willow" Wilson scored a surprise dancefloor hit with "Feel Me", which was one of the standout cuts on a superb multi-artist EP from Workshop. Happily, the four tracks featured on this debut EP proper for Workshop are equally as alluring. The Manchester-based producer begins with a chunk of spacey, R&B and garage-influenced deep house ("Track 1"), before fusing distant, stop-start percussion hits and heavy bass with her own sweet vocals on "Track 2". Flip for the fluid, soft-touch harp melodies and subtle drum rhythms of "Track 3", and the wonderfully deep "Track 4", which shuffles along hypnotically on waves of low-slung New Jersey bass, dreamy chords, and heart-warming percussion.

Review: Pepe Bradock is back! Some ten months on from the release of his inspired Le Fada EP, the veteran Parisian beat-maker delivers another sublime, six-track assault on the senses. The mood is set by opener "Yazuke", a pitch-black fusion of fizzing jazz drums, macabre electronics and razor sharp acid lines, before he struts off on a more positive, wide-eyed tip on the bumpy "Grodno". Elsewhere, you'll find some exotic and intoxicating ambience in the shape of "Sainte-Maure", a glitchy, cut-up take on U.S house (the brilliantly bonkers "Underground Monogahela"), an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink rinse out ("Boom Boom Crash", which sounds like Basement Jaxx's "Fly Life" on acid), and a beat-less, late night trip ("1755").

Where Is The Love (dub version) (8:19)
Review: Reno Ka first appeared alongside the Prince of Chicago house, Terrence Parker, on the mighty Planet E back in 2013 and, although we only heard her vocal talents on the particular EP, we knew that we'd somehow see her soon again. Here she is on the sixth outing from Music and Power with "Where Is The Love?", a smooth and silky house warmer that hangs in the balance between soulful and classic Chicago beatdown; it's one of those for the lovers, and a track that can be appreciated by both DJs and straight-up Saturday evening dancers. There's a dub version on the flipside where, of course, the vocals are stripped back to give more room to the sonics, a gentle sway of cooling synths and echoing flurries of harmonics. A wonderful EP that sits just right with us.

Review: France's Versatile Records is a truly impressive label. They've been going string for over twenty years, and everything on its wonderful catalogue is worth a listen, whether you're a house fanatic or a jazz-funk head. They've been busy releasing vinyl EP's of this year's comprehensive 1996-2016 compilation, and this latest nugget forms part of the most recent years, where they've teamed up particularly closely with the likes of Sex Tags' DJ Sotofett. The opener is I:Cube's masterfully punchy and supremely executed "VVV" house bomb, followed by Sotofett's and label boss Gilb'r's "Foliages" - remixed here by Sotofett into a loose and jazzy version. I:Cube remixes John Cravache's "Le Desir De Rester Petit" on the flip under the Cubo name, the producer conjuring a dark and hypnotic tune, and Zombie Zombie make an appearance with their fuzzy electro house monster take of "Blue Monday" by New Order, entitled "The Beach". Solid.

Review: Following the hazy brilliance of last year's outing on UNTHANK, Canadian deep house explorer Lnrdcroy makes his debut on local label Mood Hut. Intriguingly, title track "Ooze City" eschews the wavy, new age vibes and ultra-deep melodies he's previously been associated with, turning instead to the world of wonky, late night acid house (think undulating TB-303 lines, hypnotic grooves, distorted electronics and hissing cymbals). Those seeking more pastoral pleasures will love the heady ambient house electronics and spaced out bongo lines of "Aquabus (Plaza Of Nations Dub)", while the delightful "Kali Yuga" recalls the dreamy brilliance of his 2014 classic "Sunrise Market", whilst moving further towards the tribal intensity of traditional African drum recordings.

Review: Lone's great Magic Wire is back with Canadian producer Bruce Trail. The EP is named after a picturesque Southern Ontario hiking route. Starting out with the dusty retro house of "Over Falls", he then gets stuck into the spacey and ethereal deepness of "Bridgework" which we really enjoyed for all its emotive qualities. On the flip we have the early Mr Fingers sounding "Silver II" which is rather convincing in all its early nineties-ness and closing this great EP out is the rather upbeat hiss and boom of "Fly By Night".

Review: Detroit's Kevin Reynolds made a name for himself through Berlin's Nsyde imprint with the all-conquering Liasions 12" from 2011 which still sounds 100% fresh five years on! We are glad to see Reynolds back on wax and this 12" for Osunlade's Yoruba Records comes as a mooted taster for his debut LP! Four tracks deep, Fembehyaget is just what we needed for this late-summer heat wave. "Dodging The Clip" is a bouncy, driving house chugger with a deep, dubby and almost Flo Po feel, but the title track "Fembehyaget" is much more in line with Osunlade's usual bag of Afro-tribal tricks. On the B-side, "Travelled" sees a mid-tempo 4/4 beat engulfed by a sea of gorgeous synth sequencing, while "Vibe Samba" goes deep, minimal and explorative thanks to a glitchy drum sequence and sporadic layers of bass swarming the place. Recommended.

Acasual is up first, presenting a reflective tour through lingering chords and swirling pads perfect for rainy spring days, while Tominori Hosoya goes one further with the soul-stirring ambience of "Thinking Of The Days".
