Numerical Coefficients (6:18)
Curvature (6:15)
Differential (5:29)
Review: Natan H and Owen Jay return to their inimitable Gauss monicker with this fresh, three-pronged analogue beat attack - that unmistakable stamp is back with a vengeance! The lead tune, "Numerical Coefficients", is a raw, skeletal techno track with a hypnotising sequence of melodies propelling the groove forwards and, if you're into 90s material on the likes of Irdial, then this'll no doubt please your eardrums. On the B-side, "Curvature" is a bumpier ride, charged by a fluttering bass drum and washed-out sonics, whereas "Differential" lays down some much needed 303 squelch, a bass tone that just sounds so damn right with these sorts of cold, shimmering, drum-heavy techno patterns.

Heuristic (6:02)
Ipseity (5:57)
Opprobrium (5:24)
Review: Increasingly known for his productions as much as his storied DJ sets, Eric Cloutier approaches the studio with the same kind of precision that marks out his club and festival appearances. On this first release on Palinoia he exercises a keen sense of control over playful elements, not least on lead track "Heuristic". The nagging lead synth may hop around the mix, but it stays locked on to a thoroughly focused undercarriage of drums and low end that suits the professional techno set. "Ipseity" is lighter in its demeanour thanks to some calming pad tones, but the strong structure of the track remains. The release rounds up with the slower thump of "Opprobrium", surmising Cloutier's attitude to the warm-up part of a serious, long-lasting DJ set.

Crosstalk (5:43)
Seeing Red (6:13)
A Is For Acapella (2:23)
We're Bombing (6:58)
Birdland (6:13)
Review: The retroverts at Super Rhythm Trax return with yet more acid madness courtesy of Matt Whitehead; he of Rebel Intelligence and Model Citizens fame. It's a pretty straight up affair on the Bombing EP, where opening cut "Crosstalk" batters you with 909 snare attacks and the hypnotic funk of 303 acid squelch. "Seeing Red" is a much more tunnelling affair where that little silver Roland box again does most of the talking. On the flip, the title track is one of the real highlights; this sleazy and bombastic electro-funk number is reminiscent of Jimmy Edgar's finer moments until "Birdland" hammers the message home in style with yet more vintage flair and those early rave style steel drum presets in full effect.

Review: Any new material from Luke Slater under the Planetary Assault Systems alias is something to celebrate, but rarely has the techno veteran dropped such an expansive set as Arc Angel. Boasting a positively overwhelming 20 tracks over three weighty slabs of vinyl, the first PAS album for five years is as spacey, hypnotic and intoxicating as anything in the British techno legend's vast catalogue. While mostly focused on atmospheric, Motor City influenced dancefloor futurism - and, let's face it, few do that better than Slater - Arc Angel also boasts a handful of inspired ambient cuts, some vintage, UK style "intelligent techno", and occasional nods towards UK contemporaries such as Surgeon, James Ruskin, Mark Broom and Oliver Ho.

Don't Take Me (6:10)
Wild (5:45)
Breate (6:15)
Review: It's not often that you get to see Alan Oldham stepping out under his own name. The legendary Detroit artist is more commonly spotted as DJ T-1000 (or designing iconic artwork for techno labels) but this time around he's sharing some more house-minded delights for Finale Sessions. "Don't Take Me" is a haunting, mystical slice of deep house that fits into the Finale narrative perfectly, while "Wild" too offers up a distinctive approach that manages to be both refined and yet imbued with that Detroit roughness. "Breathe" may well be the best jam on the record, dealing in subtle threads of melody that conjure up the perfect dubby 4/4 confection.

Phantom Planet Outlaws - "Muscles From Outer Space" (6:35)
John Heckle - "Hybrid 1" (5:32)
Mark Forshaw - "Flash Back" (7:52)
Binny - "The Return" (5:32)
Review: Boss Tracks gets ignited as a vessel for the work of three nefarious cartoon individuals who may or may not relate to three Liverpudlians with a penchant for jacking hardware tackle. John Heckle, Mark Forshaw and Binny are formidable enough on their own, so combined as Phantom Planet Outlaws there's no shock to hear the acid raining down in a most expressive of ways. "Hybrid 1" finds Heckle squeezing atonal hooks out of his gear like a free jazz maverick while Forshaw fires off the whipcrack tones on "Flash Back". Binny meanwhile brings a malevolent twist on searing loopy techno to bare on "The Return" making this a record for only the toughest heads to drop.

Give Me The (6:53)
Our Man Though (7:09)
Review: Back in July, hardware fetishists and acid house revivalists Paranoid London returned with We Come To Rock, their first 12" single for three years. Here they build on that success with two more razor-sharp, 303-enhanced hardware jams for sweat-soaked basements and pitch-black warehouses. Of the two, it's the more ragged and psychedelic "Our Man Though" that hits home hardest, thanks largely to the combo layering waves of twisted acid lines on top of distorted, teak-tough drum machine beats. "Give Me The" is a little more sedate in comparison, but still impresses thanks to its smart combination of a menacing groove, pitched-down vocal samples, and occasional, undulating acid motifs.

Arc Unknown (6:14)
Specimen 2 (7:22)
Specimen 3 (6:29)
Review: We would not be heading into hyperboles if we said that Rrose is arguably one of the most enigmatic figures to emerge from the techno realm over the last five years. Starting out on the now sadly defunct Sandwell District, the shadowy producer has simply kept on giving since his debut, and we are certainly his - or her - fanboys. "Arc Unknown" opens this new three-tracker for the Infrastructure imprint, and it does so with the same suave style that led us to fall in love with the artist's minimal yet rich patterns of four-to-the-floor. The B-side is livelier, less entangled in a web of cavernous sonics, and "Specimen 2" bounces all over the place thanks to subtle beasts and quirky harmonics, leaving "Specimen 3" to evolve that same sound further into oblivion - the same jingles now lost in an intricate pattern of molecular sounds. Wonderful and much recommended.

Vestal Witness (8:11)
Of Water & The Spirit (7:33)
Proceeding To Infinity (6:06)
Review: Earlier in the year, Abdullah Rashim popped up on Northern Electrics under the Lundin Oil guise with an album of abstract techno and ambient explorations entitled Between The Shields. Here he returns to the label under his given name, with a no-nonsense set of club-ready cuts. Opener "Vestal Witness" sets the tone, with droning, sustained notes and icy textures riding a restless techno groove. "Of Water & The Spirit" is a slightly wilder affair, with ragged, psychedelic electronics smothering a denser, more percussive rhythm track, while "Riding To Infinity" is a far-out, electro-influenced drum workout. All three tracks are undeniably moody, as you'd probably expect from both label and artist.

Detroit City At Night (3:17)
Review: Terrence Dixon first donned the Population One alias for Metroplex two decades ago, and has been a semi-regular contributor to Juan Aktkins' label ever since. Detroit City At Night finds him in fine form, delivering tracks that blend traditional Motor City techno tropes - hissing hi-hats, spacey electronics, and futurist intent - with warmer keys and organ stabs. Naturally, it feels like a classic Metroplex release, with cuts such as "Going In Circles" - built around spacey melody patterns and swirling, sci-fi textures - and "Down The Lodge" ticking all the right boxes. Best of all, though, is closer "Detroit City At Night", an atmospheric combination of gritty Motor City field recordings and dark, Italo-influenced techno grooves.

Severed Seven (8:07)
Cc (7:17)
More Moan (3:25)
Review: UK wunderkind Joy Orbison and former Instra:Mental member (and Nonplus Recordings boss) Boddika return for another eagerly awaited installment in their SunkLo series, their first since 2014. The crazy main-room banger "Severed Seven" first appeared in early 2015 but only now finally sees the light of day. A favourite of DJs as diverse as Ben UFO and Gerd Janson, this seething, slow burning track is littered with exotic samples, a humming bassline and hammering rhythmic madness. On the flip, we have the dirty, lo-fi electro funk of "Cc" which excels in all its simplicity, as well as the jacking DJ tool "More Moan" where the track is powered by not much more than one seriously relentless 808 workout and some distant bass murmurs. Wicked stuff!

Review: Finale Sessions continues to fly the flag for the freshest variations on deep techno with a distinct Detroit flavour, and now the label is celebrating five years of operations with a split release that calls upon some label regulars to turn out the goods. Luke Hess is up first with the dynamic whipcrack dub techno pulse of "Deliverer", while Patrice Scott continues his fine run of form with the meditative "Future Funk". Basic Soul Unit meanwhile strikes the balance between experimentation and immersion with the sharp-angled yet soothing "Torn Satin", and then label boss Michael Zucker drops a punchy but poignant offering in the shape of "YHWH".

Review: Frustrated Funk, Shopwrec and Central Processing Unit are just some of the quality labels on which the enigmatic 214 has delivered his wayward strains of electro and techno. This new single for Lunar Disko is straight-up, high calibre business, as per usual, starting with the mesmerising pads and alluring soundscapes of "The Breakfast Club", a beat-driven escapade through a wave of majestic synths. "Lunar Landing" is more on the Dutch electro side of things, thanks to its sub-aquatic beats and general demeanour while, on the flip, "Jade" injects some Chicago house live through an industrial filter, and "Hurley" liquifies its synths down to a thick pool of sonics and subtle beats. Gorgeous music.

Review: It's been another explosive year for Buffalo veteran Parker with key releases firing from Repitch, Spazio, Inkblots and Edit Select this year already. Now, after over 20 years in the game, he makes his debut on the mighty Tresor with four more highly mixable and creative reasons why he's maintained his respected status; "Disintegrating Sand" rolls and folds the kicks and rhythmic vapour traces with a Plastik edge while "Angels In Cages" fluctuates with a mind-warping trippiness, "Gyroscopic Precession" twists the lasers with a visceral physicality and "Meteor Crater" warps with hypnotic insistency. Lean elements, mean messages - Parker makes music you can help but get lost inside of.

Tell You No Lie (8:31)
Review: A taster for Robert Hood's second Floorplan album, this EP puts a spotlight on the radical nature of his musical transformation. On "Music", the visceral rhythms of techno minimalism are gone; in their place is a rolling, tracky groove that boasts a repetitive vocal loop and which has shades of classic Relief /Derrick Carter. "Tell You No Lie" is even more impressive. It sees Hood use a gospel vocal over a stomping, funk guitar-sampling disco house workout. There is an audibly religious dimension to "Tell You No Lie," but Hood's knack for writing a great tune means that it sounds celebratory rather than self-indulgent or preachy.

Review: Mickael Jeanneret is Janeret, a deep house producer from Paris who now finds himself with a release on promising new Russian label Berg Audio who have previously served up the likes of iO (Mulen) and Andre Kronert. For the Kord EP, the title track is a densely layered yet sublime and rolling journey through the dub techno sound and executed tastefully. Its remix by Berlin tech house hero Diego Krause respectfully retains the dubbiness yet injects it with more groove and swagger. On the flip, "Air" ventures down a much deeper route with emotive pads and hypnotic dub chords working to great effect. The Dilated Pupils affiliated Ben Buitendijk delivers a brilliant rework, covering the track in the right amount of dust and rust like he only can.

Borders (Basic Soul Unit remix) (5:50)
Review: Newcomer Region takes no time to get his credentials across, and this debut EP is all you could possibly ask for from an artist making their way up the food chain. Coming though on the young Jaunt label, Region dishes out some seriously magnificent dub techno lashings here, with the opener "Subline" being something of rough gem; the remix comes from LIES-associate Voiski, and the Frenchman strips the whole thing down to a deeper, murkier tone that we've come to associate him to. "Borders", on the B-side, is a supremely deep and meditative house track with a touch of the 'Shed' in it, and main man Basic Soul Unit drops his version of the tune, a broken beat assemblage with that same dubwise feel that wraps the groove of the original cut.
