Falcon Punch - "Move" (6:01)
Osmose - "Caught Up" (6:23)
VinylAddicted & SMQ - "CC Tribute" (5:39)
Review: Four years deep into its disco, beatdown and edit adventures, Smokecloud's status is nigh-on impeccable. Here we find them uniting four of their most creative craftsmen for four straight-up dancefloor pacifiers. Highlights include the sludgy slo-mo Edwin Starr on acid flavoured "Caught Up" and the Diana Ross homage that is the sun-skanked reggae party jam "CC Tribute" by VinylAddicted & SMQ. Instant smiles.

Broadway Kiss (Osmose edit) (6:28)
Holdin' On (Derek Kaye rework) (7:58)
I Got Your Wang (Rulefinns Kravstor Gitarist-edit) (6:32)
Review: Sleazy McQueen's Whiskey Disco label seems to be on fire at present, with new EPs of white-hot edits appearing on an almost weekly basis. Predictably, there's more high-grade material on this latest split artist four-tracker. Pontchartain kicks things off with a brilliantly dubbed-out take on Gayle Adams classic "Lifesaver" (previously successfully extended and re-touched by FLX One a few years back), before Osmose delivers organ solos, orgasmic groans and rump shaking beats on "Broadway Kiss". Flip for Derek Kaye's "Holdin' On", a deliciously celebratory number full of cheery scat vocals and incessant grooves, and "I Got Your Wang", a cheery, sun-kissed chunk of disco perfection from Rulefinns Kravstor.

Review: New Zealand-based DJ/producer Frank Booker is no newcomer to the world of the floor-friendly re-edit. Having previously released killer scalpel works on Razor 'N' Tape, KAT and Disco Deviance, he's decided to launch his own edit series, Down In The Basement. As usual, there's much to enjoy, with Booker extending and working killer grooves, often with the assistance of healthy servings of dub delay. Highlights are plentiful, from the low-slung, percussive dub disco flex of "Track 1" and midtempo disco-funk bounce of "Track 2", to the riotous funk of "Track 4". All are expert revisions, with just the right amount of house style bottom end amongst the original grooves.

The Great Unknown (6:18)
Solitude (6:13)
Watching You Sleep (6:11)
Review: After impressing with their baggy, floor-friendly and often pitched-down blends of deep house and disco, Sleazy Beats Recordings called it a day in 2012, opening the Sleazy Beats Black Ops imprint in its place. Here, they continue to push forward their head-nodding, toe-tapping sound via an EP from Outplay label owner Junktion. It's a big of a killer, too, with the Dutch producer delivering a trio of tasty cuts built around hand-picked disco samples, rolling grooves, and just the right amount of warm, soul-flecked deep house elements. Our pick is probably "The Great Unknown" - it boasts the strongest, richest disco loops of the three, and some killer chords - though the breezy "Watching You Sleep" isn't far behind.

Review: Editor's Kutz on an RSD tip limited to 500 presses.... You just know this is going to be special. Apparently this has been work in progress since last October, but the hard work has paid off as an array of long lost cuts get treatments from the very best in the game. Case in point: Riccio's epic cosmic star gazer "Space Traveller" Em Vee's deep, dubby and hypnotic "Dance The Blues Away". More well-known classics to go under the knife include Jean Clause Gavri's stomping, emotion-soaked twist on a cover of Al Green with "Stay 2gether", Luvless's warm and loopy take on Stephanie Mills with "My Luvin" and JKriv's absolute dream-weaver shake up of Earth Wind & Fire's "Horizonte". Shakalode (7:30)
Pim Pom (4:05)
La Botellita (4:47)
Review: JD Twitch and Midland's Autonomous Africa project supersizes to dancefloor-ready 12"s and they do so with this really interesting Columbian Afrofunk release. You'll instantly recognise the A; a powerful rendition of Fela Kuti's "Shakalode", there's more than a smidgeon of Latin fire in those rampant, lolloping grooves. Meanwhile on the B, the label explores two of Wganda's lesser known originals; the tub-thumping, chant-heavy, organ-squeezing "Pim Pom" and the dusty percussive, blues harp-led folk number "La Botellita". With all proceeds going to Action In Africa, this wins in every possible direction.

We kick off a percussion-heavy take on Hamilton Bohannon's "Me & The Gang" where full focus is centred on the deep, lolloping groove. Next up is a silky jazz shake up of Pete & Sheila Escovedo's Cobham cover "Bolinas"; instant sunset material, it's going to get heavy airplay at the Croatian festivals this summer without doubt. Dig deeper for a horn-heavy twist of Pleasure's "Bouncy Lady" before hitting the EP highlight... A cosmic, lazer-bending dub disco twist on Mad Professor's "Soul African Crossfire". Albion - "Experimento" (3:54)
The Ivory Boy - "Mare" (5:18)
Avanti - "Bright Mezcal" (4:35)
Review: If you're going to launch a new re-edit series, it's probably wise to get some big hitters on board. That's certainly what the people behind Theme From Kaffe have done for their debut offering. Italian heavyweights Bottin lead the way with "Ora La So", a lo-slung, Clavinet-heavy chunk of dirty Balearica blessed with sleazy, whispered vocals. Sleazy McQueen continues the eccentric theme with the chugging reggae-disco bounce of "Back To Hell", before Albion ups the tempo on the dusty, vocoder-laden wonky disco chug of "Experimento". An excellent EP concludes with the sprawling soundtrack disco of Ivory Boy's "Mare" and "Bright Mezcal" by Avanti, a curiously bumpin chunk of dub disco weirdness blessed with alien synths and a brilliantly rubbery bassline.

Alfonso Muskedunder (Mungolian vs Tangoterje dub) (4:52)
Review: Having previously commissioned remixes of a range of It's Album Time LP tracks, Todd Terje has decided to hand over one of that set's most idiosyncratic tracks - the madcap, easy listening goes dancefloor jazz freakery of "Alfonso Muskedunder" - to a surprisingly eclectic selection of producers. While you would expect old pals Mungolian Jetset to embrace the madness - which they do with a sublime latin-tinged easy listening version, and an even better echo-laden dub, the latter in cahoots with Terje himself - you couldn't say the same for deep house and techno veteran Deetron. That said, his version is excellent, re-imagining Terje's original as a thrillingly breezy Balearic house jam. Bullion's pitched-down, hip-hop influenced version completes a superb package.

Napoleon - "Cosmic Cheetah" (5:19)
Hristo - "Deja Vu" (5:13)
Review: According to the brief press blurb accompanying this first 7" release from the Sudden Edits imprint, Napoleon is the chosen moniker of a previously unheralded Costa Rican disco digger. This may or may not be true, of course, but there's much to suggest that the mysterious producer is a serious talent. His "Cosmic Cheetah" is an eccentric, synth-laden affair and sounds French in origin. Half whispered, sleazy vocoder vocals ride a chugging and slightly exotic rhythm built around winding synths and fuzzy guitars. On the flip, Honey Soundsystem man Hristo drops another gem; a sinewy, string-laden chunk of dewy-eyed slo-mo soul that sounds like it was designed to soundtrack Balearic sunsets and chilly autumnal sunrises.

The Reflex - "Every Woman" (7:50)
Review: Kon and The Reflex team up on 12" with two neatly contrasting edits of Chaka Khan's premiere lady bomb "Every Woman". Kon plays the lavish extension card, adding extra emphasis on the instrumentation while The Reflex goes for a warmer finish, squaring his focus on the juicy bassline while adding a little cymbal magic to the rhythm. Both authentic and hugely respectful to the original, this is effectively an edit masterclass that we all need to pay attention to.

Review: It's something of a pleasant surprise to see French veteran Ludovic Llorca popping up on the second volume of House of Disco's HODSTASH edits series. Under his Art of Tones alias, the one-time F Communications stalwart turns in a couple of house-friendly cut-ups of classic tracks. "Unlimited Love", for example, offers a head-nodding, toe-tapping rework of Love Unlimited Orchestra's slow dance classic "Love's Theme", while "Stepping In & Out" successfully chops and tools up a similarly familiar disco classic. House of Disco regular Harry Wolfman continues the theme on the flip, delivering a banging version of Prince classic "Erotic City", before closing proceedings with the sweaty P-Funk-goes-tech house chug of "Schoolin".

Teu Sorriso (56 mix) (5:32)
Filhas De Oxum (Mudds extended mix) (6:36)
Review: After eight years, Claremont 56 is proud to present its' 50th 12" single release - a special collaborative 12" that's been some nine years in the making. Seu Torriso marks the debut from Paraiso, a project schemed up in the hilltops of Derbyshire, the sun-soaked beaches of Brazil and the bustling metropolis of Hong Kong.
The story begins in 2006, when then Matlock-based producer Ant Harrison (now resident in Hong Kong) began daydreaming about South American music. The veteran studio maestro - best known for his deep house partnership with Matt Rhythm under the Rhythm Plate guise - took to the Internet in search of inspiration, and found a Brazilian duo, guitarist Carlos and vocalist Nego. Having offered to produce some tracks from their jamming, he put together a range of tracks, adding drums, bass, Rhodes, strings (expertly played by Richard Hancock) and additional percussion.
Now those tracks, expertly mixed from the stems by Claremont 56 boss Mudd, are finally available. Both are deliciously breezy, with the duo's loose samba vibe enhanced immeasurably by Harrison's deft production and sympathetic rhythms. The title track kicks things off, delivering a jaunty, sun-kissed blend of shuffling acoustic guitars, cheery vocals, lilting saxophone and undeniably Balearic grooves. Mudd delivers an extended mix of "Filhas De Oxhum" on the flip, stretching out Harrison's groove seductively, whilst leaving enough space in the mix for Harrison, Carlos and Nego's original instrumentation and vocals to breathe. The result is a mesmerizing chunk of shuffling dancefloor Balearica, in true Claremont 56 style.

Do It Do It Disco (Tom Noble Remix)
Do It Do It Disco (J Roc Re Edit)
Do It Do It Disco (Unreleased extended mix)
Review: Bay Area soul/funk duo Myron & E's 2013 debut album for Stones Throw, Broadway, was something of a surprise hit. Here, one of the LP's genuine highlights - the authentic '70s disco-soul gem "Do It Do It Disco" gets the remix treatment. The standout mix comes from PPU regular Tom Noble, who delivers a synth-heavy disco-boogie version that nudges the San Francisco duo's original further towards roller-disco territory. As with most of Noble's mixes, there's a celebratory feel that's nothing less than delicious. Elsewhere, Myron & E deliver an extended, 12-minute take on the four-minute album version - with a little help from backing band the Soul Investigators - while J-Rocc drops a delay-laden, filter-heavy re-edit that makes more of the original's brilliant disco drums. In a word: essential.

Robot Jam (Nick The Record & Dan Tyler rerub) (8:24)
Review: REPRESS ALERT! If you read interviews with Stuart Leath, you'll probably be aware of the amount of work he was put into tracking down Trinidadian husband-and-wife team Carl and Carol Jacobs. Some 24 months later, the fruits of his efforts have materialized in this superb reissue of their obscure (and ludicrously hard to find) 1986 electro-calypso gem "Robot Jam". It's one of those records that shouldn't work - it's effectively a fusion of replayed and re-sung bits from records by Santana, Rock Master Scott and Rappin' Duke - but still sounds brilliantly futuristic nearly 30 years after its' initial release. The two-part original is joined on the flip by a brilliantly fitting, echo-laden "re-rub" from Nick The Record and Dan Tyler, better known as one half of the Idjut Boys.

Review: The fourth release on the Good Timin' label is a four-tracker from Conga Radioia project helmed by Jex and his pal Roberto. With sun and synth echoing the first trio of Good Timin' joints, the Conga project pushes the palette into Burrell territory, thanks to Roberto's 20-year tenure as a DJ and producer in Toronto. the A-side features the flute and guitar-driven tropic-not-tropic of "Naturalmente" and the robotic, Hancock-meets-acid vibes of "Timekeeper." The flip stretches out with two versions of "Slumber Dance," which takes its cue from the Nu Groove years but balances the gritty beats with plenty of New Age glory.

Review: Paris label Dockside Records don't put out a great deal of music every year, but when they do get their act together it's usually a rather special affair. With previous releases by the likes of Norm Talley and Rick Wade, it's clear that the imprint has decided upon retaining a heavily US sort of sound on the house and techno that they release. Not surprisingly, Detroit's K Hand pops up for their latest 12" and his "Do It Again" tune is a sublime slice of Michigan sample house...wonderfully deep bass tones, disco strings and those ringing vocal samples. For fans of KDJ, Andres and all the rest of the throng.

All This Love That I'm Givin' (3:53)
Maybe I'll Find Somebody New (3:25)
Review: For those of a certain age, Gwen McRae's "All This Love That I'm Givin" will always evoke memories of Cassius' French Touch classic "Feeling For You", which sampled it heavily. It remains a killer record in its' own right, though, as this timely reissue proves. Originally released in 1979, it sees McRae at her powerful best, delivering a potent message to an errant lover over a killer, low-slung disco-funk groove. It's one of the tracks that should really be in any discerning funk, soul or disco DJ's collection. Flip for original B-side "Maybe I'll Find Somebody New", a breezier chunk of laidback soul with a slightly Southern lilt. It's good, but pales into insignificance compared to the brilliant 'A' side.

Fast forward three years and Eros has raised once again, Lazarus style, with the commencement of a new series that veers away from the electronic focus of those previous records to the outright flamboyant styles of disco. All three tracks here are untitled, so the disco scholars out there will have plenty of fun seeking out the source material but really the dancers will have more reacting to these cuts. First up a loopy twist on The Dells "All About The Paper" where the groove is kept locked with only snippets of the vocals ghosting in and out of the mix. Next up is a storming shake of Powerline's "Double Journey" (which has been famously edited and sampled by everyone from Harvey to Morales). Deeper again Margie Alexander gets the treatment as her steamy soul showdown from 1975 gets the foot-heavy focus. Finally we segue into electro boogie pastures as "Gigolo" closes the show with deep treacle spoken word and synth so soaking wet you won't need to wash for a week. Exemplary.

But the ride isn't always smooth; Hrdvision's "BNW8N4U" gets a little white knuckle with its icy modularisms and snub nosed arpeggio and the warm-but-insistent jazz house stamps of Koosh's "Mouthful Of Gold Teeth" ensure you will creep over 55 at points during the journey... For whatever reason, Special Delivery sees the series go physical momentarily with the first of two planned 12" releases containing edits by Red Axes and Rouges Mecanique. Tel Aviv pair Red Axes are rampant editors and "Der Saxa" is a fine slab of vocal disco strangeness entrenched in thick swathes of psychedelia. Review: For a man whose legendary status has long been assured - he was, after all, the original cosmic disco DJ - it would be fair to say that Daniele Baldelli's production record is patchy, at best. It's heartening to report, then, that Cosmic Drag, his first solo full-length since 2009, is arguably his strongest release to date. Typically trippy and blessed with both psychedelic electronics, and vintage analogue synthesizers, it joins the dots between experimental Italian synth-wave, chugging electronic disco, yearning drum machine funk, glassy-eyed soundscapes and pitched-down disco-funk, all the while sounding like it could have been recorded in the DJ's late '70s and early '80s heyday.
