Review: As if the bumper Mosaic reissue package from recent months wasn't enough, Sushitech are at it again with yet more dub-techno-house gold from the vaults of Steve O'Sullivan, yet again stuffing three whole slabs of vinyl with unmissable gems from a producer only just getting his just desserts. Tapping into perhaps the most spaced out and mellow of all the O'Sullivan material, jams such as the delicate "Inside Out" ooze sophistication and simplicity that evades producers aiming for the same immersive tone in these times. With some previously unreleased wares, faithful remastering and well-aimed edits, there is no way any fan of deep 4/4 music could turn their nose up at such an immaculate selection.

FlyLOVE (Andres remix)
FlyLOVE (original mix)
Review: "Flylove" is a prominent highlight of Lovelife Is A Challenge, the digital only LP Oakland singer songwriter Chris Turner released last year; produced in conjunction with Phantom Lover, the track came off like Fly Lo dipping his toes in jazz and deep house at the same time. Rebirth have licensed the album for a remastered full vinyl release and "Flylove" makes for perfect single material and look the label have only gone and commissioned the master of Detroit Dust Andres to remix the track. The results are dipped in the same kind of tape worn warmth that characterised his ubiquitous New For U plate last year and is already a firm favourite of Gilles and MCDE.

Techno
Nudge
The Act
Review: After potted appearances on Exit and Convex Industries, Darren 'dBridge' White's 4/4 side-project makes a move to a label more readily associated with house and techno. Electric Minds may be a successful London promotions crew but their label is no slouch either, as this twenty eighth installment attests. White is on impeccable form on both cuts, bringing a singular voice to the house rat race with his considerable experience and knack for emotional presence. "Nudge" is equal parts industrial boom and ambient reflection, working plenty of snappy sound design into the hypnotic undulations of the track. "The Act" is more upfront, with snapping synth stabs and bottom end growls dancing a light-footed tango while keeping the moodiness intact.

Another Lifetime
Infrared
Revolve
Review: In a year of numerous release shaped highlights for Marcus Intalex's Trevino alias, his debut for Craig Richard's label The Nothing Special was particularly memorable with Backtracking featuring two of the best examples of crisp and punchy analogue house in 2012. A second Trevino offering for The Nothing Special is therefore something to cherish and Another Lifetime proves to be just as rewarding. A sense of modulating warmth is present from the very off and lends the title track a feeling of instant gratification which is emboldened by the calibre of the B Side cuts. "Infrared" has that rolling hi tech jazz approach in abundance, whilst "Revolve" swings with crisp percussive aplomb.

Midland - "Checkbob" (5:18)
JD Twitch - "Olaiya" (5:28)
Auntie Flo - "Water Of Life" (7:07)
JD Twitch - "JuJu" (4:59)
Review: The excellent Autonomous Africa series returns for a second release sporting cuts from label founder JD Twitch and the like minded Auntie Flo and Midland. Launched last year, the series intends to highlight the problems that outside interference from other countries has on African countries and their people with all the proceeds from each EP donated to a different charity in Africa. The inaugural EP raised funds for Medecins Sans Frontieres operations in Africa, while this year's EP will raise funds for the Mtandika Mission in Tanzania. Midland offers some of his best work to date with the thumping, scratchy 4/4 of original production "Checkbob" which is matched by JD Twitch's "Olaiya" which adds a devilish sub bassline to the jittery JBs style funk of the uncredited source. On the flip Auntie Flo is in more contemplative mood with "Water Of Life" whilst Twitch's second edit "Juju" is a percussive delight.

Andy Hart & Max Graef - "Gefleckte Gauklerblume"
Awanto3 - "You Made Me Change Of Heart"
Awanto3 - "You Made Me Change Of Heart" (Roman Rauch remix)
Mazzomba - "Untitled 1"
Review: Austrian label Pusic present their second release, featuring four finely crafted boogie house cuts that stand out amongst the current ocean of 90s influenced cuts. Andy Hart & Max Graef kick off with "Gefleckte Gauklerblume", a mid-tempo house cut filled with billowing chords and tough, brushed percussion and a generous helping of soul, while Mazzomba's "Untitled 1" pairs metronomic house beats with a gently swelling chord sequence. However, it's "You Make Me Change of Heart" from veteran Dutch producer Awanto3 that stands out, with weighty, sonorous keys that slowly unfold into some elegiac 70s vocals - the remix from Roman Rauch is similarly great, snipping the vocals up and taking it into peak-time territory.

I Need Your Love (Right Now) (Lem Church mix)
Penetration
Review: Digging back for one of the earlier Mood II Swing archive jams from 1992, the Slow To Speak stable continue their canny reissue series in fine style, taking the two most significant tracks from the Wall Of Sound EP and spreading them out over a whole side of vinyl each. "I Need Your Love (Right Now)" is vintage New York house music, tripped out and loopy just as much as it is funky and soulful. The keys and vocal rips can't be argued with, while the beat is a prime slice of early shuffle, and there's no let up on "Penetration" either. Taking a light tone with the snazzy chord stabs, Ciafone and Springsteen nailed it here as much as they would come to throughout the rest of the 90s.

Depersonalisation
Derealisation
Agitated
Monoaminooxidase
Review: While the names might all point to some kind of madcap double-edged EP that fuses two disparate elements together, Mental Model's third release on Mental Trax is in fact a decidedly considered affair that lets plenty of brooding tones glide out across the track in relative peace. "Depersonalisation" sports dubby clobber while the undergarments point to an electro influence. Once the sinister tones of "Derealisation" take hold too, it's hard to not be reminded of The Hague approach to dark electronic business, albeit in a more minimal context on this particular record. When looking to bring some atmospheric murk to the dancefloor you won't want to be without this 12".

Discovered Night
Cosmic Sign
Synthonic
Review: Formed from the collaborative minds of Tomoki Tamura and Giuseppe Tuccillo, Doublet has had one previous outing on Tomoki's Holic Trax earlier in the year, and now it returns for another 10" outing of sturdy deep house movements. "Discovered Night" pushes forth on a bed of measured acid bassline while gentle chords and subtle flute-like harmonies hover on top, making for a well balanced all rounder for the warm up slot or later hours. "Cosmic Sign" is a little more wayward with its stuttering percussive kinks and trippy synth lines, although it doesn't stray too far from the dependable path of deep house. "Synthonic" meanwhile makes a claim for anthemic status with its edgy string hook and carefully placed diva vocal, avoiding any overly obvious tropes while talking big at the same time.

Leaving

Jungle Warrior
Never Lonely No More
Review: Orson Wells, AKA producer Leonard Poschmann, isn't exactly a new name - he's delivered contributions to split EPs under a variety of pseudonyms - but this is his debut solo EP. And what a debut. "Leaving", the EP's lead cut, is a bona-fide tear-jerker of epic proportions, built around Steve Summers/Confused House style rising and falling synthesizer lines, bittersweet melodies, squelchy acid tweaks and raw-but-stripped back drums. The equally melancholic "Searching" sounds like Lamont Booker's more introspective moments dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century ("New Age House" for a new century, perhaps), while "Jungle Warrior" feels like early Detroit techno, pitched down to a deep house tempo, with an added shot of feverish voodoo. As for the title track, it's stunningly beautiful. In a word: fantastic.

Sour Cream
Review: Faceless Romanian entity Romansoff returns for a second entry in the Raw Tools series of off-kilter cuts aimed at the lurid middle ground between house and techno, this time bringing four varied workouts to the table that flex well-toned rhythmical muscle alongside supple melodic textures suited to the later end of the night. "Hard Head" drifts into sunkissed realms with its searching chord refrains, while "Get Down" twitches with more ambiguous, claustrophobic tones. "I Want" gets a little more snappy with its rave undertones and "Sour Cream" loops back and forth with unresolved tension, but all these tracks hang together through insistent drum arrangements that are finely honed for maximum floor impact.

TM404 - "303/303/303/606/707"
Review: SKUM sees Swedish labels Skudge and Kontra Musik join forces for a series of collaborative releases featuring both their respective label rosters and it's quite a logical step. Whilst Kontra Musik is the more established of the two, both labels have followed a similar path, releasing music from hometown talent as well as artists further afield. The debut issue sees contributions from Skudge themselves along with MRSK, Frak and the ever reliable Andreas Tilliander in TM404 mode; proceedings are deftly split between Swedish techno at it's finest on the A Side courtesy of Skudge and MRSK whilst Frak and TM404 ensure the B Side is a more cerebral affair.

Fallout
Review: Steffi's Dolly label continues to impress and surprise on their fifteenth release, turning to Irish producer Leonid for a three track exposition of his deep analogue style. If you've checked Leonid's prior output for Sistrum and Photic Fields you'll know Dubliner Paul Smith uses the project to draw on a sound that is warm, subtle and contains faint echoes of Motor City Soul and this much is very evident on the Radar EP. Perhaps less suited to the peak time than some of Dolly's recent issues, the three tracks here will instead appeal to those looking to set the mood and Smith's inherent musicality and understanding of his craft really shines through, especially on the slow burning, glowering brilliance of B Side track "Fall Out".

Review: Having appeared on Yore in mixed by Patrice Scott and The Memory Foundation format on a rather dashing 7" release earlier this year, label boss Andy Vaz offers up his first original Yore material of the year with the equally well presented Bicycle Love 12". Unique handmade red paint bicycle wheels patterns on the front record sleeve - Each a unique individual piece, sleeve backside handstamped, vinyl comes as transparent light rose transparent coloured vinyl. Music-wise, both the original version of "Bicycle Love" and the two accompanying remixes from Brad P and Damon Lamar slot neatly into the Yore aesthetic - indeed Vaz is on wonderfully sweet and Detroit influenced form here!
