Rez (Bassnectar remix)
Review: There are stone cold classics that really don't need touching. "Rez" has been in that category since it was first released in 1993... Many have attempted but none have succeeded. Until now thanks to US's finest bass export Bassnectar. Paying total respect to the original cascading ricochet riff he adds his trademark swagger-drums and lets the build-up do all the talking. Then along comes the drop and those synths take "Rez" kicking and screaming into the future. Congratulations Bassnectar, you've achieved the impossible.

Light
Havana Up
Night Scape (deep mix)
Review: Countering his recent grumpy, techno-minded EP "Black Widow" with three shimmering sonic gems, "Deep Heads Vol 10" is a triumph of Biome's versatility. "Light" shuffles us through a sweet, deep dream, whispering sweet waspy bass nothings in our ears. "Havana VIP" flips the VIP cliche and instead of making it ruder and stronger, it takes his 2011 trouble-wobbler into a much more sub-aquatic, contemplative pasture. "Nightscape" finishes the set on a naked, mystic note with occasional splashes of crystal pianos. Classic Biome.

Black Widow
Quasar
Mystery
Review: Biome's been making more frequent appearance on Macabre Unit, and they've struck gold several times over. "Black Widow" looks set to be one of his biggest to date. A pulsating, bouncing-ball bass runs amid the stark half steps that gradually develop a polyrhythmic mind of their own. "Quasar" is stripped back further again with a trippy kick that pounds a mean message directly into your temples. You can't fight it; the incessant hand drum loop will drive you into a shamanic state before you know it. "Mystery" is the hype track of the trio. Bordering into dancehall techno territory with another nagging hand drum loop, this is one relentlessly trippy beast

Nomine's Sound
Searching
Review: There seems to be a buzz about Nomine right now. Largely because he's seemingly come out of nowhere with one EP ("Jahpan" on Dubzilla) and is already on one of the biggest imprints in the scene. It's not hard to hear why, mind; "Nomine's Sound" is a tropical roller with a textured percussive pattern that just infects the floor with utter funk. "Searching" is a little deeper and more cosmic in its make up thanks to a hypnotic wood-block drum riff, mourning pads and a bassline that weeps as much as it wobbles.

Dolphin
Fossil
Review: Let's go swimming with dolphins. So deep you could dive in with a submarine in your pocket and not hit the bottom, "Dolphins" is a truly oceanic slab of tidal two-step. Shimmering and sparkling with untold musical secrets, it's one of Cluekid's deepest cuts to date. "Fossil" is slightly darker; rolling with liquid tech groove and warm, resonant flux-bass, there's nothing archaic about it at all.

Titan
Rude
Review: What a double-up! Chestplate boss Distance and Croydon loyalist Cyrus get busy over two different dubstep vibes and come up with two exceptional cuts. "Titan" is the bastard half-speed son of neuro D&B and heavy metal in its make-up. Industrial, gritty and unforgiving, it's utter mechanical filth! "Rude", meanwhile, couldn't be sexier; squeezing the subs as low and as fat as they'll go, the duo have created one of the most authentic dubwise records the scene has seen for a long time.

Tesla
Timelapse
Review: There's something to be said for a simple, nagging two-note riff. Stabby and infectious: cooked well and it's the perfect recipe for dancefloor mind magic. Take "Tesla", a simplistic, twisted pacer that penetrates the psyche with its liquid rhythm and relentless hook. "Timelapse", meanwhile, shows a whole other side to Perverse as we dive and glide on cosmic thermals, hanging onto loose guitar twangs and airy pads.

Life In The Cloudz
Blue Summer
Life In The Cloudz (The Host remix)
Review: Fancy footwork... Chicago's Earl builds on the reputation he set with the massive "Teklife Or Nolife" EP last year with another generous selection. "More Than Special" leads on a firing uptempo vibe and pitched up sample that could well be the BeeGees. D&B in its pace, it's a very creative DJ tool for those looking to switch up the genres. Elsewhere we find luxury in the fractured jazz fusion of "Life in the Cloudz", we get a royal soul massage from The Host and get totally lost amid the Mancini flickers on the title track.

Wait For Me (feat Alia Fresco)
UL90
Jetliner
Review: Having already graced Copenhagen's TEAL imprint twice before with their deep, hybrid sound of dubstep and minimal D&B, the producer returns with a sampler offering a taste of what to expect from their debut album Fictitious Nostalgia. "Wait For Me" sees a collaboration with singer Alia Fresco, its soulful textures are reminiscent of the producer's debut release "Syncopy", seeing half stepping rhythms joined with lush acoustic textures. The track is joined by two tracks exclusive to the compilation; "UL90" employs a darker tone, with Autonomic-style D&B rhythms joined by deep, tunnelling subs, while "Jetliner" sees gaseous synth textures joined by some thick bass stabs and weighty organic drums. As with previous Beastie Respond releases, it's an impressive collection of forward thinking dubstep.

6Blocc - "Get Real"
Tony Anthem & Axl Ender - "Rocking It" (feat Prolific & Cojaxx)
BMC - "Bro" (feat Slim Thug)
Review: FoulPlay are fighting fit with a fearsome four-pack right here. With label mainstays 6Blocc and Prolific pulling the punches, it's a knock-out session from the very first round. "Party All Day" takes a little EDM/hip-hop schmoozing and throws it down with and a trap-esque flare. "Get Real", meanwhile, is more you classic bro sound with a screaming bass and savage hooks. Elsewhere we find Tony Anthem and Axl Ender spitting fast-flow bars over a classic saw-tooth ("Rocking It") and BMC bashing off the haters over repetitive streams of toxic laser bass ("Bro").

Track 1
Track 2
Review: Erstwhile D&B'ers Genetix have nailed the dubstep sound recently. Applying their strong-arm sonic knowhow from their previous trade, it's given their cuts a distinctive edge. "Track One" is the bolshier one of the pair with its swaggering half steps, well-placed MC vocal snippet and bear-like bass. "Track Two" is a much deeper, rolling percussive cut spiked with chilling pads and paranoid tick-tock shakers shuffling deep in the darkest corners. Both are bolstered with the bulletproof beef their D&B was known for too.

Red Planet
Review: Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Dave Clarke, Psychick Warriors ov Gaia and Speedy J got together to make skittish, speaker-busting dubstep? That's pretty much what you can expect from Red Planet - though, of course, none of those esteemed techno veterans are actually involved. But the sound of The Others (AKA drum and baser D-Code on a different tip) recalls the spacey, psychedelic techno futurism of those acts within a rigid, in-your-face dubstep framework. Sure, there are tracks that sound like his take on Hospital faves Kamo & Crooked (see "Freeze The Frame"), and a dash of "purple" (a collaboration with Joker, no less), but for the most part it's an intergalactic, retro-futurist treat.
