Always Twirling
Twirl & The Beanstalk
Whispering Twirl
Review: For their thirteenth release, Delusions of Grandeur eek some more deep heat out of Australian wunderkind Tornado Wallace. Since "Paddlin" was released back in June young Wallace has delivered some fine remixes for the likes of Hometaping, Kolour and Future Classics which has seen him get props from the likes of The Revenge, Eddie C, Chamboche and Cottam. The three tracks on this release demonstrate a growing maturity in production which will soon promote Wallace alongside the aforementioned. "Always Twirling" hogs the A Side with a dubbed out pads and soaring strings twisting around the throbbing beat augmented by rattling 808 snares and staid hi-hats making for an emotive deep house moment. Wallace goes one better on the B Side with "Twirl and the Beanstalk" a dusty raw beatdown that drops a wormhole synth rhythm in a increasingly chaotic array of percussive delight. Just wow. The final twirl takes proceedings down a notch laying some filtered piano melodies over a bumping mid tempo boogie beat.

Interplanetary Visitors
Bounce Theory
Twilight
Review: Miles Sagnia, who already has a release on Keith Worthy's esteemed Aesthetic Audio label under his belt, continues to explore the more melodic end of deep house on the Astrobiological Funk EP for Ornate Music. Acid squiggles underpin pleasant piano stabs and vocal snatches on "Interplanetary Visitors", a track steeped in oven warm Detroitisms. Flip over for "Bounce Theory" which got Juno pulses races thanks to its deeply submerged sensual vocal groans and beefy drums, while "Twilight" closes out a fine 12" with a gentle shuffling rhythm.

GTFO!
Review: We only know two things for certain about the producer behind this 12" he's French and he knows his house onions. A wonderful homage to the deeper strains of 90s New Jersey and NYC, Paris Undergound Trax Vol 1 has been flying off the shelves. "NYC Underground" AND "Sexy Thing Remix" smack of Kerri Chandler, with fat pads, sultry vocals and gritty basslines. The B-Side kicks off with uptempo gem "Hardcore Deep House", while "GTFO!" rides the same warm, embracing chords that made the recent FCL project on We Play House such a treat for the ears. All of this is lovingly presented on vinyl that plays inside out. Limited supply - blink and you'll miss it.

Roy Davis Jr - "All I Do"
Omar S - "Da Teys" (feat DJ B Len D)
Review: Omar S treats us to a second release in the space of a week, with a much deserved reissue of some 1996 Roy Davis Jnr rawness across the A Side. The Stevie Wonder classic "All I Do" gets chopped up, laid over a killer Chi town beat filled with instantly gratifying raw drum edits and augmented by some evil bass thumps. Relentlessly brilliant and sounds just as fresh some 14 years on. Echoing a current trend this side plays outwards from the inside groove. On the flip Omar S teams up with DJ B Len D for the bongo heavy deep groove of "Da Teys" a track that's characterised by melodic keys which increase with curveball drama as the track progresses.

Mym230
Antares
Can't Take It
Crosstown
Review: This is the last of two vinyl teasers from Rush Hour ahead of what looks like a brilliant Recloose retrospective CD. Proceedings open with the stuttering click and thump of "Mym 230 (RIP)" which was included on Matt's debut EP for Planet E way back in 1998. It's a mark of his talent that the cavernous bass throb and jazz techno flourishes sound just as pertinent some 12 years later. This is complemented by a previously unreleased track in "Antares", a flip towards loose filtered house that's made special by the introduction of a delightfully soulful vocal harmony sampled and cut to fit the gaps. On the flip, one of Recloose's biggest tracks "Can't Take It" makes a welcome reappearance, with Dwele's distinctive voice riding out over the burning boogie melodies. Another unreleased gem from the Recloose archives in "Crosstown" rounds off another must have RH release.

The Red Room (OBJ vocal mix)
The Red Room (Kyle MF Hall MeMix)
Review: Dennis Ferrer and Kyle Hall have been two of the biggest names in house music in the past 18 months, albeit to very different audiences. The veteran Ferrer excelled on the ubiquitous "Hey Hey" towards the tail end of last year, which was hailed as an anthem everywhere from Room 1 at Fabric to the White Isle. The talented Mr Hall, meanwhile, exploded onto the scene in 2010 with releases on such esteemed imprints as Warp, Rush Hour, Third Ear and Hyperdub. His remix of Ferrer's "The Red Room" undulates with the prodigious talent's trademark off kilter drum programming, with the vocals chopped up and dipped in subaquatic reverb, while the original flexes its peak time muscles with tropical percussion, throbbing synths and that killer vocal line.

Ride With Me (Burnt Island Casuals remix)
Ride With Me (Matthias Meyer remix)
Review: Two dope remixes of Helsinki-based producer Roberto Rodriguez here on that venerable bastion of deep house we call Compost Black Label. First up Burnt Island Casuals - aka Graeme Revenge Clark and Sub Clubber Harri - turn the original "Ride With Me" into a scorching late night burner. Coming in at a higher tempo than we're used to from the duo, it locks into a groove immediately and rides it with aplomb. Flip over for the Matthias Meyer rework, which carries the gentle techno throb that we've grown to love from his past outings on Liebe Detail.

Every Day Madness
Raw As Funk
Soul Train
Review: Rush Hour add another footnote to the Juno dossier marked 'label of the year' with this twelve of rough jack material from Mathematics and Yore artiste Marcello Napoletano. There's vintage Chicago vibes aplenty on "Everyday Madness", with the Italian's schizophrenic approach to syncopation imbuing the track with real energy. On the flip, the pretty self explanatory "Raw As Fuck" combines a grinding raw machine funk rhythm with some deeply emotive strings. Drunken keys reverberate around the sonic spaces between the chaotic processions of analogue drum patterns on "Soul Train" before finding a natural groove at the midpoint.

Get That Beedeebee
I'm Cumming Baby
Review: Rednose Distrikt's Steven De Peven emerges from his producing slumber under this new alias with two excellent productions for Voyages Direct; the Tom Trago curated Rush Hour off-shoot. "Get That BeeDeeBee" bumps at a mid tempo pace, with a searing keyboard riff that drops intermittently to a backdrop of emotive uplifting chords and an ever mutating heavy beat augmented by barely audible vocal grunts. De Peven ups the pace on the flip with "I'm Coming Baby" filtering luscious disco vibes through crisp house drum programming and Detroit chords that radiate dancefloor heat. The final product is something that wouldn't sound out of place on the recent Rick Wilhite compilation.

Seduction
Review: An essential re-issue of Ron Trent's "Seduction" from the kindly folks at Slow To Speak. The track first featured on the A Dark Room And A Feeling 12" on the long defunct UK imprint Subwoofer back in 1995, and still feels oven warm today. Melodic pads, female and male vox working in glorious harmony, spray can percussion and synth work handled with precision; this is a lesson to all the pretenders out there. This is an absolute must for fans of Parrish, KDJ and Prescription Records.

Sojush
Pine
Track One
Review: Anton Zap's Ethereal Sound imprint reaches its fifth and perhaps best release to date with the debut of mystery producer Pjotr and three simply stunning productions. The title track "Sojush" impresses in particular, with a celestial string sample gently rising and gradually dominating your senses amidst a hauntingly delightful arrangement of warm bass ripples, soft pads and crisp programming. On the flip, upward key flourishes add a hopeful sheen to the fragile tones of "Pine" whilst the closing "Track One" wraps drunken melodic shifts around a marvellous kick drum groove.

Just Because (Ghetto mix)
Peep Game
Review: More Fries and Bridges on Robsoul means more peak time proper house music with that soulful NJ garage flavour. The Ghetto Mix of "Just Because" ripples with percussive delight, whilst the drop into searing piano riff and uplifting vocal samples that play out the track adds a extra sheen of energy to proceedings - good work Mr Weeks and Mr Morales. On the flip, "Peep Game" rides a heavy bump aided by crisp 808 hits and a compressed disco bassline. There's a healthy dose of infectious EQing on the vocal loop that acts as the core rhythmic pulse too.

Bryan Jones - "Low Flow"
Arco - "First Time"
D-T3ch - "Give & Take"
Forrest Avery & Derty D - "The Perfect Beat"
Review: Michigan imprint Flapjack drops four tracks of crisp deepness from an international cast of production talent. Chicago resident Bryan Jones veers into fist pumping territory with the peak time jack of "Low Flow" which has a satisfying sub bass rumble. There's a sweet disco feel to "First Time" by Czech producer Arco typified by the low slung guitar and dubby bass line - some DJ Sneak vibes on this one. On the flip, "Give & Take" sees Australian D Tech get busy on the keys over a bumping house beat whilst Forrest Avery & Derty D plunder a hip-hop classic on "The Perfect Beat".

Beginning Of The Ring
In One's Mind
Like A Child
Review: Japanese producer Hirofumi Goto aka Rondenion follows up releases on Rush Hour and Still Music with more dope jams on Extra Virgin. Goto opens with a homage to slow-mo house, although our eyebrows were initially raised when we clocked the BPM at 86. The thing is, it really works: too often slow house tracks simply sound like a 120 BPM tune pitched way down - but Rondenion inserts a killer groove on "Beginning of the Ring" that is actually sounds perfect as it is, blending a hip-hop tempo with clever sampling. Indeed Rondenion's renowned MPC loving soul and disco-sampling style is also on full display for B Side track "In One's Mind", which could quite easily be Raw Cut #7. "Like A Child" rounds things off with an insouciant piano melody, shuffling hi-hats and a raw jackin' beat.
