Deep In Dis V/A
Cat: DIDWAX 004. Rel: 14 Mar 24
Pily - "Bailo En Circuito" (6:26)
Marcos Coya - "Buahh Trance" (6:40)
Prince De Takicardie - "Badalona's House" (First mix) (5:26)
JNJS - "X - Money" (5:07)
Eren Arif - "High Volume" (4:50)
Review: Deep In Dis make a defiant comeback with their latest V/A, across which five new jaunty minimal house cuts are heard. Beginning with an expositional slow-burn - Pily's 'Bailo En Circuito', which samples Alma Matris' vocals - we then move into the juddering trance of 'Buahh Trance' by Marcos Coya and then the first mix of 'Badalona's House' by Prince De Takicardie, the latter of which is far rougher and classic in sound. Jnjs' 'X Money' brings up the B with a UK garage turn, a mood which continues with Eren Arif's 'High Volume'.

Check Me Out
Cat: PILOT 15. Rel: 11 Mar 24
Check Me Out (6:52)
Spark Plug (6:58)
For You (6:58)
What's That (Refix) (7:05)
Review: It's hard to keep up with the hugely prolific output of UK don Burnski and his several different labels these days but one thing is for sure - Pilot keeps on serving up the goods. For its 15th release, the tech and minimal focussed label welcomes Robin Graham who opens up with the lively and colourful synths of bustling groover 'Check Me Out'. 'Spark Plug' is more business-like - the dry drums and hits overlaid with retro chord stabs that amp up the crowd and 'For You' then gets loose and funky with some twisted and sugar synths over garage-flecked beats and 'What's That' (Refix) offers a jumbled percussive sound full of dynamism.

Review: Returning from a brief hiatus, Spin Desire launches its third release and it is one dedicated to spotlighting talented artists who are currently flying under the radar. This time, they present Mculo, a UK-born, Berlin-based artist known for his versatile production skills. Mculo's four-track EP offers a deeper journey than previous releases, showcasing peak-time house, UK-infused breaks, hazy after-hours vibes, and a captivating downtempo finale. It's a nice journeying EP that is unified by its sense of crisp design and fresh rhythmic invention. A fantastic work from an emerging artist who we shall now very much keep an eye on.

Untitled Breaks
Cat: STRAAT 002. Rel: 12 Mar 24
Mobster
No Time To Lose (0:18)
Dove (6:37)
Titre Eponyme (6:13)
Review: Don't be fooled by the name, Straatkunst is a French label but they're focused on street-ready electro and techno with a universal, global feel. Pechno steps up for the second release on the imprint with a pleasingly varied offering which kicks off with the pumped up 4/4 and reflective synth lines of 'Mobster'. 'No Time To Lose' is a rawer beatdown which lands somewhere in between OG Chicago house and slamming West Coast electro. 'Dove' is a deeper, tripper affair while 'Titre Eponyme' opts for a stripped back vibe which takes its cues from Nu Groove and the early wave of bleep techno.

The Snow EP (remastered)
Cat: TM 020. Rel: 12 Mar 24
The Snow (Driftmix) (2:32)
The Snow (Answers Come In Dreams I) (5:50)
The Snow (Out In The Cold) (7:40)

The Snow (Answers Come In Dreams II) (5:57)
The Snow (6:42)
Review: The Transmigration label has been one of the leading reissue labels in the past half-decade dedicated to the underground sound in various electronic subgenres. For their 20th release of the label, they are reissuing the very desirable The Snow by the legendary 80s UK act Coil. Like the original remix album in 1991, this reissue stays true to keeping the same tracklist which features all the desired versions. Why fix something that isn't broken right?! Included are the ravey breakbeat version 'Answers Come In Dreams 1 as well as the very Psychic TV sounding 'Out In The Cold' and 'As Pure As?' versions that are raw, Chicago influenced acid house and techno inspired. Each and every version is ready for a good hammering on the dancefloor that wishes to veer off on a jaunt into early 90s techno and rave music.

The Hidden Beauty Of Dutch House 94-98
VARIOUS
The Hidden Beauty Of Dutch House 94-98 (gatefold 2xLP + MP3 download code)
Cat: ANA 001. Rel: 15 Mar 24
Max 404 - "Infinite Legs" (7:08)
Galaxy - "Axis" (5:58)
Spirito - "Illusion" (5:26)
Omega - "Le Reve" (6:05)
Maas & Leest - "Probus Quadrat" (6:36)
Misty Movement - "Timeless" (4:22)
Off Line - "Boggle This" (6:24)
Jaimy & Con-Am - "Emotions" (4:41)
Review: When it comes to 90s Dutch dance music we tend to think of formative techno and the monolithic rise of gabber, but there was also some golden house music being produced around that time. Now German label Anacalypto is taking a trip into these less explored realms to offer a finely curated compilation with eight deep cuts for the discerning dancefloor. Max 404's sublime 'Infinite Legs' is an ambient house fantasy of the highest calibre, while Galaxy's 'Axis' is similarly trippy and soft around the edges, setting the tone for the deeper, techno informed shades of house we're in for across the collection. This is elegant, heads down gear which has been coveted by diggers for decades, now available freshly remastered and pressed up in one place.

Review: Dark Entries welcome back the inimitable Doc Sleep aka Melissa Maristuen for a superb new album of ghostly and ethereal house and techno. This is a welcome follow-up to last year's ambient and IDM exploration, Birds, and shows another side that draws on Maristuen's years of queer clubbing. It fuses aspects of New York house, Berlin techno and West-coast breakbeats and is "a love letter to the West Coast's magnificent natural landscape, the light of the Pacific sunrise." That is reflected in the sublime synths and silky rhythms which manage to both move your body but also captivate your mind. It's another cracking album from the Doc.

Tribal Italia Breaks Part 1
VARIOUS
Tribal Italia Breaks Part 1 (LP in die-cut sleeve)
Cat: DSND 011. Rel: 15 Mar 24
Meo & Steve - "Global Village" (Funk version) (7:43)
Kalua - "Brain" (feat DJ Brahms) (3:49)
DJ Vale - "Bengali Song" (6:25)
Meo & Steve - "Aries" (7:13)
DJ Fary - "Punani Fantasy" (remix) (6:35)
Mamukata - "Liquid Feet" (4:45)
Review: Dualismo Sound decided to start this new Tribal Italia Breaks compilation with the aim of "reconstructing a different perspective of Tribal Italia," which was a label started in 1995 in Riccione. It was known for its mix of cosmic and Afro-disco sounds and regional DJs such as Meo, Fary, Fattori and Brahms. One aspect of the sound was that it took cub from hip-hop's sample-heavy culture and al that gave birth to the Tribal Italia catalogue. The best of it is offered up here on a worldly trip through all sorts of innovative rhythms and colourful sounds, exotic pads and tropical signifiers. A great retro-future collection of leftfield downtempo and disco, then.
