Alphonse - "Rujac" (5:53)
Rodney Bennet - "Palm Sunday" (5:08)
Toby Tobias - "Streets of Gold" (Alphonse remix) (5:12)
Pyramids Of Space - "Quantis" (5:20)
Dance - "Amber" (4:25)
Review: Voice Notes is a new imprint run by London underground veteran Toby Tobias with Alphonse. A five track various artist EP, Voice Notes 002 is a time-honoured memorial for its sister label London Housing Trust, that they shut down a few years ago after 10 releases. Featuring tracks by label boss Tobias who delivers some emotive electro on 'Streets Of Gold', his evil twin Alphonse on the UK flava of 'Rujac', plus introducing Dance with the dub techno deconstruction of 'Amber', Rodney Bennett with the classic Stateside deep house of 'Palm Sunday' and Pyramids of Space with the downbeat IDM journey 'Quantis'.

Porn Sword Tobacco - "Techno Story" (139 Bpm mix) (13:53)
Review: The Shot of T label serves up a versatile new split EP with CV Smiles kicking things off. A long, drawn-out and emotive synth opens up on 'Home-schooled' and comes layered with bubbly pads and serve effects that soothe the mind. Then comes a rap mix that is detailed with louche bars and more 909 production to make it pop. On the flip side, the masterful Porn Sword Tobacco flips the script with a gurgling, pulsing, deep and linear techno roller in the form of 'Techno Story' which is perfect for late-night sessions.

Palmate - "Departure" (4:02)
DJ Bigspin - "Pluto" (4:56)
Review: Moscow label FrouFrouFrou marks its eighth release with an all-star lineup. A braggadocious cut from French DJ Dylan Dylan opens up Side A, a funk-step number with a great vocal sample. Belgium producer Hatt.D steps up next for something more sultry in 'Emotionz (Part 2)', with a quintessential 90s flare complete with 808 State Loon calls. Speaking of birds, Australian disco collector Dawn Again's 'I'm Like a Bird' is a swansong of beeping synths and atmospheric drone synths and Manhood offers up a tropical vibe with a mid-tempo sunny house cut. Continuing on the expansive summer atmosphere, German DJ Palmate offers up a reverb-synth laden upbeat jam in 'Departure' that prefaces the tech-heavy deep house 'Pluto' by DJ Bigspin. A huge variety of upbeat tracks for the more mid-tempo deep house fan.

Pedro Bertho - "TOITOI" (6:33)
COEO - "Vertigo" (4:40)
Review: It's all about the early 90s vibes on this 12" from Fauvre as four underground anthems from the era are revisited. Forty Wings Dynamo's 'Inversion' has a dubby, dreamy progressive house feel, its epic outlook and echoing percussion inevitably bringing Leftfield's first handful of 12"s to mind, before 'Raveolution' (Acid mix) brings a more jungle techno feel with sliced up breaks skittering around the four-to-the-floor kicks. Pedro Bertho's 'TOITOI' starts side two, nodding to Jaydee's 'Plastic Dreams' with its soulful keys creating magic over a simple, banging techno framework before COEO's 'Vertigo' gets to work with its proto-breakbeat beats and one utterly orgasmic breakdown. Well worth a step back in time.

Folding (KUSP After Dark remix) (6:38)
Folding (Roman Flugel remix) (6:17)
Folding (Radio Slave New Age Of Love remix) (4:39)
Review: Rekids apply the breaks for an end-of-year jolt of euphoria with rising duo KUSP. Following releases on the likes of Planet Rhythm and Tronic, 'Folding' comes in two halves; the original is a Bicep-flavoured broken beat emotional whirlwind dusted with the sugar-sweet vocals of Pablo Rita while the duo's own After Dark mix takes things back into the pounding 4x4 territory the pair are best known for. In true Rekids fashion, 'Folding' is boosted with two high profile remixes: None other than Roman Flugel takes the lead with an electroid necksnapper while Radio Slave folds all switches, slows the tempo and gives us a moment of pure chill-craft. Every corner covered.

Review: Burnski's Instinct label serves up some fresh platters from a new name, Papa Nugs. These are of course naughty as you like garage tinged late night gems for cosy dance floors. Opener 'Gemini' is a high speed affair with exotic strings and neck-snapping hits. 'Kilo of Filo' is a super heavy wobbler with a fat as fuck bottom end oscillation. 'De Nata' closes out on more super crisp breakbeats that recall the genres hey day when artists like Ali B were knocking out killer mixes for Fabric. All killer no filler, as ever with this label.

Breakbeater (7:04)
Detronic (7:43)
Review: Breakbeat will never die, and we know this for a fact, so long as EPs like 'Breakbeater' continue to be released. Homing on the style's audiophilic edges, producer Paradox produces something squarely in the middle of classic breakbeat hardcore, drum n' bass and breakstep here, with the title track needing little but womping kicks, ultra-designed breaks and the occasional whispery vocal sample and bass lick to satiate our cravings for the sound. The B, 'Detronic', deconstructs the trope even further, dubbifying the break's metallic 2-stepping edge by plunging it into Basic Channel-esque ricochets.

Don't Touch Me (3:18)
Wake Up (3:11)
Review: Breakbeat Paradise's Toxic Funk series rolls out a ninth volume here with two more powerful cuts. These come from Paul Sitter and Crash Party who together cook up plenty of horn-lead action on 'Don't Touch Me.' It has old school bars and some retro synth work that all adds up to a full thrill funk banger. 'Wake Up' is another raw and raucous one with big rock guitars and slamming drums. A b-boy hip-hop vocal is paired with yelping female vocal samples and the crispy drums never let up. Two dynamite tracks for sure.

Review: 'Colorizing' is the second release from Pauli, a mysterious producer who delivers three tracks of minimal house with a twist that comes courtesy of Shoyu - a vinyl-only label focusing on quality over quantity. The A-side features 'Dirty H', a bouncy track with a funky guitar riff and a vocal hook. The B-side contains the mesmerising title track with a melodic synth line and a distorted voice, and 'Methdog Story' - a dark track with a spooky atmosphere and a hypnotising spoken word sample. The EP is a fresh and original take on minimal house, with a touch of humour and creativity.

Their latest in-stock wares can be found on the shelf labelled Surf Chicks! Part 2, one of two selections (in EP form) that pay homage to the unforgettable surf and party scenes of US West Coast. Review: The Vivid label is yet another one from Burnski who also runs Constant Blanc and Instinct. He is s single handed garage hit making machine and he knows how to tap into the next gen, too. Here he calls upon Peaky Beats for a naughty and nasty three track affair that has retro feels but contemporary style. 'Can't Stop' opens up with a 2-step shuffle and steely hits, then 'Get Ready' gets more free and melodic with some boxing little melodic patterns and oscillating bass. Last of all is the most menacing and dark - 'Wildcat' flips into a dub wise swagger mid-way through that is going to blow up the clubs.

Review: Don't be fooled by the name, Straatkunst is a French label but they're focused on street-ready electro and techno with a universal, global feel. Pechno steps up for the second release on the imprint with a pleasingly varied offering which kicks off with the pumped up 4/4 and reflective synth lines of 'Mobster'. 'No Time To Lose' is a rawer beatdown which lands somewhere in between OG Chicago house and slamming West Coast electro. 'Dove' is a deeper, tripper affair while 'Titre Eponyme' opts for a stripped back vibe which takes its cues from Nu Groove and the early wave of bleep techno.

Prang (feat Huerco S)
Sisu (feat Cucina Povera)
Review: Perko is one of those newer-school experimental artists whose fingers straddle many pies, but who nevertheless refuses to allow this inner tendency towards versatility to hold him back. The FELT label owner has welcomed artists as far-flung as Civilistjavel! to Moxie into his inner circle; and the fruits of this open-mindedness are more than translated into his latest EP for Glaswegian dance legends Numbers. 'Prang' errs on the side of playfulness, giving some hot seconds of pure danceable flavour. Huerco S lends his usually-texturally-rich addprod to the nominal A-sider, a rather impressive future-garage-acid cut that recalls some of Objekt's earlier stuff, while regular collaborator and mournful vocalist-producer Cucina Povera crops up on the ambient dub plunger-into-the-sound that is 'Sisu'.

Phazy Susan (6:21)
Review: Three and a half years have passed since Jasen Loveland and Patrick Russell debuted their Pervocet project on Interdimensional Transmissions' ongoing Acid Series. This belated follow-up promises more "psychedelic music used to induce moderate to severe psychosis" (as their brief bio puts it). They set their stall out with 'Neighbor', a sparse and punchy acid-electro workout where raw, razor-sharp TB-303 motifs and vocoder vocal snippets catch the ear, before opting for a more relaxed - but no less psychedelic - acid-electro flex on the faintly foreboding 'Rawlo'. Loveland and Russell flip the script on 'L0V3 S1R3N', peppering a bouncy acid house-goes-techno beat with sweat-soaked percussion filled and hard-wired acid lines, while 'Phasy Suzan' is a deep, effects-laden, mind-mangling slab of expertly hallucinatory, mid-tempo excellence.

Review: Mysterious London-based producer Picpoul is the latest distinctive artist to land on Labyrinth Records with a trio of powerful new cuts designed for sweaty dance floors. They bare all the hallmarks of an artist who has been producing for some time and the colossal title track 'The Feeling' opens with tight as you like drums and perc with big, splashing breaks and vocoder vocals to being some future feels. There is a more tech edge to the flip side tune 'BSP' with plenty of old school jungle references and a big fat 808 bassline.

Ostensibly a breakbeat EP, but with a retro edge packed with obscure, probably public-domain vocal samples from film and just-intoned cadences, every influence from medley-style breaks to downtempo psych-acid crops up on this deep rabbit-hole-jumper.

Review: Deep In Dis make a defiant comeback with their latest V/A, across which five new jaunty minimal house cuts are heard. Beginning with an expositional slow-burn - Pily's 'Bailo En Circuito', which samples Alma Matris' vocals - we then move into the juddering trance of 'Buahh Trance' by Marcos Coya and then the first mix of 'Badalona's House' by Prince De Takicardie, the latter of which is far rougher and classic in sound. Jnjs' 'X Money' brings up the B with a UK garage turn, a mood which continues with Eren Arif's 'High Volume'.

This double 12" for Altered Sense finds some breakbeat qualities slipping into the foundations of the tracks, albeit smudged under a heavy blanket of pads and woozy synth lines. Review: One Eye Witness is mostly known for doing reissues of treasured 90s breakbeat, techno and trance under the name Kalahari Oyster Cult but this outlet under their name is for new music. Similar to the previous, the fifth edition is a compilation with submissions from different artists around the world. Starting out the EP is the Montreal producer Priori with the very atmospheric 'Weight'. Those who follow the label, know that every release will get a bit of trance and sure enough, Eversines deliver with wicked 'Vigilance'. For the second side, the 'Bustlin' Monk' by O Fourtyfour, bounces along with a trippy, broken, electro groove. Lastly, 'J2PX' by Reflex Blue is a sick, robotic funker that we expect to get a lot of attention by those who get this record. You can always expect some excellent music from One Eye Witness.

Review: Last year, and to mark the passing of a quarter of a century since the release of their rather colossal album The Fat of the Land, the Prodigy commissioned a swathe of new reworks of key cuts from the popular set. Now those remixes - or at least their favourites - have made it onto silver vinyl. The headline attraction is undoubtedly Andy C's revision of 'Firestarter', which retains many elements of the original (including the snarling guitars, twisted vocals and mind-mangling sounds), while adding a touch more d&b swing and a suitably sizable wobble bassline. Elsewhere, Mefjus joins forces with Camo & Crooked for a frankly nightmare-inducing rush through 'Breathe' - think thrash techno, and you're close - while Rene LaVice lays down a wobble-meets-jump-up revision of 'Mindfields' that's as gargantuan as it is brain-melting.

The expressive 'High For Life' kicks off with the sort of bulky beats that demand a physical reaction while 'Euphoria Inc' is a deeper rhythm with blasts of bass, steely metallic drum sounds and broken, prickly beats. 'Haze Runner' is a rinsing jungle work out that will get the gun fingers out and closer 'High For Life' (Bassbin 23 remix) then sips down into another earth quaking rhythm with dusty breaks and lively bass work all tapping into a rich history of UK music.

'Track 1' here takes a classic vocal sample from the Pulp Fiction movie and layers it into a freewheeling disco house sound that is cosmic, funky and retro-future by design. After that loopy workout comes the more freewheeling broken beats and Latin-inspired sounds of 'Track 2' which again has a classic movie sample as the centrepiece while the drums evolve all around. Playful and fun for sure.

Feel The Bass (4:54)
Memories In Time (5:33)
Review: Previously operating as Deadly Nightshade, Stuart Brown ignites a brand new alias for this fantastic Kniteforce debut 'Outer Limits'. A love letter to the primordial hardcore soup of the early 90s, each cut flexes a different tempo and vibe as he pays homage to a different shade of hardcore/jungle/techno. 'The Pulse' sounds like something that would have come out of the Jack Smooth HQ in 1991, all rampant pace, heavy kicks and lush pianos. 'Into The Unknown' hits with a Blapps Posse style swagger. 'Feel The Bass' is pure UK hardcore breaks with big Belgian sweeps while 'Memories In Time' brings us to a Subliminal Cuts style euphoric finale. Authentic to the core; keep your finger on this guy!

Rayo - "Purkhavka" (8:29)
Vinaya - "Mau Studio" (6:30)
Peshka - "Spozaranku" (7:08)
Dibe - "Exchange Pleasantries" (7:04)
Review: A new label fresh from Ukraine - Frequencies - gathers its forces for its first joint. For their debut V/A, four seasoned artists from around the country come together in the unity of sonic-national interest, pitting their skills behind the DAW side-by-side (nonetheless, these aren't mere bits to scratch your chin at). The deepchord-dubby 'Purkhavka' from Odesa native Rayo contrasts well with the snappier go-getter 'Mau Studio' from Vinaya, yielding an eclectic A-side from the jump. On the flip, the youngest of the bunch, Peshka, lays down 'Spozaranku', the acid-jammiest and most haunting track here, while ole' friend-of-the-label Dibe foments grittier and 2-steppier excitations with 'Exchange Pleasantries', which, despite its title, does just as well to transcend mere polite sonic formalisms.

Review: Fresh from Spain with no limitations; Tombolo release their first ever VA collection, rallying up troops from all corners of the global dancefloor and breaking boundaries between acid house, techno, breaks and electro. From the opening free party spirit of the brilliantly titled 'Bog Juice' by Canada's Unknown Mobile right through the final glacial tremors of 'Temporary Protection' from Ukrainian artist Poly Chain, the whole EP hits with an open-armed, timeless energy that transcends the usual genre brackets. I (5:46)
II (6:07)
III (5:19)
IV (4:36)
Review: Chestnut People finds NAFF champ Priori teaming up with Ludwig A.F. for some deep-diving trips somewhere between ambient, trance, deep house and techno. It's a sweetly melodic space where immersive beatdowns can sit comfortably alongside blissfully beatless meditations, leading in with the dreamy breakbeat roll of 'I' and the snappy drum blasts of 'II'. It's the B-side where the project's sound really deepens, finding new scope for aqueous sound design and fragmented electronica on 'III' before the pure, new age leaning melt-out of 'IV'. It's a sophisticated record with a sound that should draw in a huge spectrum of machine dreamers.

Review: Those renegades at Ilian Tape are back once again with another forward-thinking album of fresh and potent techno, this time from Packed Rich. His long player "depicts the journey of an individual traveling through a field of energy that connects different locations in space," we're told, and along the way, it warps space and time to leave you spellbound. Punchy broken beat drum programming, hyper-real synth lines and cosmic colours all bring this record to life. It's a psychedelic mix that sometimes sounds like an MPC jam amongst the stars, at others like you're in freefall through the cosmos and sometimes laid back, stoned as can be gazing off into the heavens. Lush.

Review: Top Rhythm Boppers return with a third standout release, this time from Papolious Jones who we are told aims to "transmit the sounds of a parallel reality, where nature and computers live united in harmony." He succeeds, too, with a selection of body-bopping electro infused with talk box robot voices from deep within a mystic forest in a celestial sky. After a scene-setting ambient opener come dazzling future disco delights, snappy electro-funk and playful cuts with naughty basslines. A varied EP full of fun as well as great form.
