Review: DNGDNGDNG is a new alias for Dengue Dengue Dengue! and Continentes Perdidos is the first work under this name. The album comes hot on the heels of last year's Zenit & Nadir LP, the 2018 album Son De Los Diablos and Siete Raices from 2016, so keep sup a high quality and high rate of release. With plenty of sound system influences, shadowy vocal sounds and cavernous bass, it is also run through with the jungle sounds and Peruvian rhythms that have defined this duo to date. The results are intriguing and compelling in equal measure.

RT3 (5:45)
RT4 (5:31)
RT5 (6:22)
RT6 (6:53)
Review: A very special set right here from Melbourne's DJ Plead for Boomkat's Editions series. Relentless Trills is a loosely woven menu of beats that dig into Plead's own heritage but also his love for dancehall, dub and hip-hop. All named by number in true beatmaker fashion, the focus is on the scenery each cut sets as we gently duck and dive from the subverted ESG-style basslines and eastern horns of 'RT1' and Saharan march of 'RT2' to the heavier Timbaland-reminiscent beats of 'RT5' or the dreamier delights of the decaying euphoria and ambient nature of the finale 'RT6'. Relentlessly good.

Mark Ernestus Remixes
Cat: DDS 026. Rel: 17 Oct 17
Congo Get Slap (Mark Ernestus remix) (7:11)
Flagged Up (Mark Ernestus remix) (9:33)
Review: The DDS label, short for Distort Decay Sustain, has given artists like Demdike Stare a platform on which to express themselves through over the years, but it was really Equiknoxx's LP from 2016, Bird Sound Power, which opened their doors to a whole new category of listener. In fact, it was that LP, with all its stunning, dub-wise experimentation, which has led to Mark Ernestus being called up for a pair of remixes. As you probably know, this is a rare case, so this 12" is sort of a special piece - "Congo Get Slap" is given the pure Ernestus rundown, with a charging, minimalistic percussion being swallowed whole by the raucous dub stabs caving in from all angles; the remix of "Flagged Up" is a much slower, more brooding affair in the same vein as the mythical cuts residing on imprints like Basic Channel and Chain Reaction - nothing but deep, meditative dub flexing for the mind. BIG!

Afterlife (2:49)
Review: Over the course of his career to date, shadowy London producer Filter Dread has proved to be one bass music's most imaginative producers, offering up a range of EPs that snugly sit in the cracks between sub-genres. On "Ice Rave", his debut album, he continues this approach, romping through a collection of weighty, club-ready cuts that variously touch on dancehall/140 fusion ("Ice B8ass"), eight-bit electro ("Space Conga"), mind-altering post-grime intensity ("Time To Let Go"), hybrid hardcore/dubstep insanity ("Ice Rave") and mutant tech-funk (the skittish and doom-laden "Tekker Wave"). In other words, it's a sub-heavy sprint just overflowing with ideas.

Mala - "Expected, Level 10"
DVA - "Technical Difficulties"
Kuedo - "Mtzpn"
Kode9 - "Xingfu Lu" (Helix remix)
Review: Hyperdub kick off the vinyl side to their ten-year celebrations with this weighty four-tracker from some of the leading lights from the label's story. Mala is in a strident mood with "Expected, Level 10" carrying through that extra touch of melody from the Mala In Cuba LP. DVA cuts loose with the leftfield scattershot groove of "Technical Difficulties", reveling in tonal experimentation and jagged rhythmic flair to a stunning end. Still locked into the sci-fi trap tangent that characterised Severant, Kuedo turns out the haunting "Mtzpn" and Helix pops up for a remix of Kode9's "Xingfu Lu" that strips down to bare essentials with a little starlit soul rubbed into the framework.
