  3. Skwatch (Black Merlin Reel To Reel remix)
  4. Never There (Hardway Bros remix)
  5. Another Lonely City (Daniele Baldelli & DJ Rocca remix)
  6. Beglammered (Richard Sen remix)
  7. We Are The Axis (Scott Fraser remix)
  8. One Minute's Silence (Ivan Smagghe remix)
Review: Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J Fairplay's project of dubbed out disco and house spread itself comfortably across the Ruled By Passion, Destroyed By Lust LP on Rotters Golf Club mere months before, and now a rag tag collection of remixers has been drawn together to reinterpret most of the album. They've reached for like-minded souls, such as Ivan Smagghe, Phil Kieran, Richard Sen and Justin Robertson with the latter's Deadstock 33s remix of "Beglammered" filled with nervy industrial undertones. Elsewhere, Black Merlin do an especially captivating job of soundtracking "Skwatch" into a lurid 80s gore fest for the ears, while Scott Fraser whips up a hypnotic Italo inflected stomper, but really every one of these esteemed producers adds to the overall tone of vintage, motor-powered dance music for ghoulish souls.

  6. Is It Wrong?
Review: Stories of Prison sees Timothy J Fairplay returns to Emotional Response having helped shape the identity of the label in it's infancy with the release of Somebody, Somewhere back in 2012. A lot of music has come from both artist and label since then, with Fairplay's reputation as a solo artist fully established thanks to releases on a myriad of labels. Stories of Prison is a mini LP rich in the musical intensity Fairplay has instilled in all his music to date, yet there is a daring sense of diversity at play too. From the effervescent dubbed out house toughness of opening track "The Quay", Fairplay veers into subaquatic breakbeat, deep synth Love From Outer Space chuggers, and other late night sonic treats.

  2. Phantom Trap (6:15)
  3. Flying Saucer Review (7:48)
Review: Like the pitched-down grooves that have become his trademark, Timothy J Fairplay just keeps chugging along. Having opened his 2015 account with a tasty EP for the Netherlands' Charlois imprint, he returns to the same label with his first missive of 2016. Title track "My Etherealness" is a typically analogue-rich affair, with sharp, alien synthesizer lines and bold, repetitive riffs stretching themselves out across a cymbal-heavy drum machine groove. By his standards, it's almost anthem-like, and certainly more positive in outlook than many of his cuts. The darkness returns on the freaky, moody and delightfully ghostly "Phantom Trap", before he adds a bit of Dutch style electro-disco pump to the organ heavy madness of "Flying Saucer".

Review: Glasgow has a new label on the horizon in the shape of Work For Love who kick off proceedings with a fine 12" from Mr Timothy J Fairplay. Given his previous form and the title of this 12", it's easy to suggest the influence of John Carpenter looms over No News From New York, but there are more strings to Fairplay's bow than that as the four tracks prove. There is a range of tempos explored here, with "Carla Is Typing A Message" a deathly crawl through delay-laden synth drama, whilst "Court Street Shuffle" is a life-affirming box jam that wouldn't sound out of place on a Legowelt record. Those melodies! "Mickey's Theme" is more redolent of Fairplay's celebrated work with Sir Weatherall, whilst the title track is the slowest production here and is quite captivating.

  2. Tommy Walker 3 - "Horse"
  3. Max Essa - "Stereoscalpedmysexpool"
  4. Al Gobi - "Quibble"
Review: The 5th release from Rothmans pays homage to legendary Argentinean defender Alberto Tarrantini and to mark this 5th release Rothmans have provided a team sheet to rival even that infamous 1982 World Cup squad. First up we have a welcome return to the label from Timothy J Fairplay who featured back alongside Toni Schumacher at the start of the year. This time around he brings us some spaced out Chicago flavour in the guise of 'The Third Season'. On the Flip side we have a welcome addition to the Rothmans squad in Max Essa, and the Tokyo resident brings us nothing but silky moves with a dark taste of the Orient with his aptly named "Stereoscapledmysexpool". Coming up the flanks we have tracks from Al Gobi and Tommy Walker 3 who bring some dark deep spacey vibes with wacked out basslines that really bring this 5th release to the boil!

Deep House
  1. Jonas Reinhardt - "Virgo Cluster"
  2. Timothy J Fairplay - "Seven Miles Down"
  3. Plaza - "Guave"
  4. Roche - "Back Outside"
Review: "Viare" is a 12" compilation featuring four distinct tracks, each occupying their own wildly unique sub-genre of the house experience. "Virgo Cluster" by Jonas Reinhardt fuses elements of cosmic disco and krautrock into a live transcendental package, with amazing guitar work by Phil Manley (Trans Am, Life Coach). "Seven Miles Down" from London's Timothy J. Fairplay (The Asphodells) is a testament to zombie horror cinema, featuring a pulsing dub-house beat that dives into cavernous sonic territory. "Guave" by Plaza is a playful dancefloor workout with a slow acid line and classic Chicago house elements. Lastly, "Back Outside" from Roche is druggy outsider house at its best, with an enormous subby bassline that complements a classic alien warehouse vibe.
