Igneous (12")
Cat: TPT 072. Rel: 24 Oct 16
Techno
  1. Igneous (5:47)
  2. Breezeblock (6:00)
  3. Flooring (5:57)
Review: Vicious, tooled-up techno slayings from Per and Randomer - drop everything and down that last sip of Red Stripe, this is come cold shit! The pair team up across two tracks for the former's Perc Trax label, and "Igneous" is in no mood to mess around right form the start; intricate, sliding folds of drums bang away amid a gnarly, distorted ocean of cyber-sonics in the same style as Blawan and Pariah's Sheworks output. On the B-side, "Breezeblock" dishes out more UK techno gear, except that here the groove is guided by a killer set of breaks in what is perhaps the best tune of the EP; "Flooring" doesn't exactly mess around either, though, and its menacing techno pounce's sole objective is total dance floor domination. BIG!

Smokin (12")
Cat: LIES 096. Rel: 15 May 17
Techno
  1. Smokin
  2. Velvet
  3. Rye
Review: Following a productive 2016 in which he delivered superb material on labels including Dekmantel, Clone and Perc Tracks, Randomer returns to L.I.E.S for the first time since 2015. A-side "Smokin" is a typically bombastic and bass-heavy affair, with the producer combining his usual metallic, industrial-tinged sounds and spacey electronics with a killer electro groove. It's little less than a genuine club roller that achieves a perfect balance between rhythmic funkiness and trippy eccentricity. Flip for the creepy, echo-laden hits, horror chic and panicked rhythms of "Velvet" and the dense, dusty late night techno throb of "Rye". While neither of the flipside tracks can match the thrills of "Smokin", they're both excellent mixing tools.

Cat: DKMNTLUFO 2. Rel: 04 Jul 16
Techno
  1. Running Dry (5:32)
  2. My Ears Hurt (4:46)
  3. Rendell Pips (4:22)
  4. Music For Two Kalimbas (5:37)
Review: It was undoubtedly a smart move by Dekmantel to ask Randomer to deliver the second installment in their UFO Series, which focuses on more the experimental, off-kilter and futuristic end of the techno spectrum. The sometime L.I.E.S, Clone and Numbers man hits the spot from the start, coming on like Aphex Twin on the IDM-goes-techno flex of "Running Dry". "My Ears Hurt" is a straight-up distorted techno throbber, while "Rendell Pips" somehow manages to fuse melodious, Artificial Intelligence era IDM positivity with African style, drum machine polyrhythms. He maintains a similar focus on "Music For Two Kalimbas", a thrillingly tropical techno stomper built around haunting melody lines.
