The Spirit (12")
Cat: AERA 016 3. Rel: 21 Nov 16
  1. O [Phase] - "Katino III" (6:20)
  2. Deniro - "Rotate" (5:55)
  3. Maarten Mittendorff - "Futura" (6:32)
  4. Louis Haiman - "Going Home" (4:45)
Review: Amsterdam purveyors of hi-tech soul Indigo Aera return with The Spirit: four strong offerings of functional peak time techno by some current scene favourites. On the A side, getting straight down to business is Token's Phase who throws down the emotive cyclicality of "Katino III" and Rotterdam's Deniro; fresh off releases for the likes of Nina Kraviz' Trip who serves up the wonderfully hypnotic dub techno of "Rotate". There's more immersive grooves on the dubby tip, courtesy of label head honcho Maarten Mittendorff with the lovely "Futura" and Louis Haiman (fwdthought/Abstract Forms) from San Diego, California who presents something a bit different in the form of the lush ambient journey "Going Home" featuring some dreamy guitar tones played over a very Derrick May sounding string arrangement. Brilliant stuff right here!

A Different Space (coloured vinyl 12")
Cat: WARM 045. Rel: 08 Aug 16
Drum And Bass
  1. A Different Space (4:59)
  2. Sunrise Technology (6:51)
Review: Young Belgian Phase makes his Warm Comms debut with three tracks that belie his 20 years on the planet... "A Different Space" takes you back to early Critical cuts thanks to its uptempo step arrangement, two note drone bass and timestretched amens on the fills. "Sunrise Technology" takes a Klute-strength telescope to see further into the cosmos while "Eternal Truth" brings us back to planet earth with a dreamier melodic structure, cymbal-splashing jungle breaks and a sub that bounces harder than a politician's promises. Serious heat for a new producer.

Cat: NZT 005. Rel: 04 Apr 16
Drum And Bass
  1. Phase - "Walk Alone" (Chris.Su remix) (5:24)
  2. GLXY - "I Want 2 VIP" (4:09)
  3. Northern Zone - "Soul Is Still The Same" (4:08)
Review: Belgian deep stable Limitless fix up for spring with two revisitations and a brand new original. First up Chris.SU takes the reins of Phase's 2013 gem "Walk Alone" adding a little scuffy, scratchy grit to the main bass riff. Currently hyped UK duo GLXY VIP the dickens out of last year's "I Want U 2" while German newcomer Northern Zone delivers a breezy stepper that's peppered with layers of cascading instrumentation and a powerful vocal sample. Beautiful.

Cat: METHXX 014. Rel: 28 Nov 16
Drum And Bass
  1. Thru My Soul (feat Steo) (4:57)
  2. The Traveller (6:23)
  3. Reap What You Sow (feat McLeod) (5:33)
Review: More often spotted cooking up sickness stews with McLeod, Villem tag teams with Belgian deepsmith Phase. The result is every bit as spotless, crisp and alluring as you want it to be. Soulful but barbed with the right balance of darkness, each cut trembles but punches: Steo adds his distinctive soul to "Thru My Soul" giving it an emotional electricity while "The Traveller" soothes with K&D era pads before dropping into a Break-style elastic bass groove. Immense.
