Funk
  1. Courtial - "Losing You" (with Errol Knowles) (3:05)
  2. Sounds Of The City Experience - "Getting Down" (4:06)
Review: Weston's curatorial crusade continues as he unearths more criminally overlooked/under-pressed rarities from the golden ages; "Losing You" comes from Courtial and Errol Knowles outstanding 1976 soul jazz album. The most straight up soul joint from the album, it's an instant sweat-fest with real guts behind both the vocals and instrumentation. Flip for the jazz funk whirlwind that is "Getting Down". Taken from their eponymous, once-super rare ($1500 per copy rare) album (also released in 76), it's an instrumental hurricane led by strings, horns and bombastically swung drums. Powerful. DJ Support from DJ Spinna,Snowboy,Sadar Bahar,Dom Servini,Faze Action,Pete Jelly Jazz,Flea Market Funk,ParisDJs.com, Marc Hype,Nicola Conte, Volcov and more

Funk
  1. Jo Tongo - "Piani"
  2. Sookie - "Rhythm On Rhythm" (Nik Weston Exclusive Funky Re edit - Produced By Joe Bisso)
Review: They sometimes say that perseverance will win the day in the end and this is what happened with the Afro Funk monster of 'Piani' from French African artist Jo Tongo that took several years of negotiation to bring to the fruition of a potential Mukatsuku Records release. From the haunting intro this is one tune that you will never forget after first listen as it tippytoes through an afrocentric funk /disco groove that will keep your dancefloor alight. On the flipside the Joe Bisso produced funk gem 'Rhythm On Rhythm' from Sookie gets an edit from label boss Nik Weston who trims, tucks and replays the funkier elements of the track with repeated breaks and lashings of brass stabs and wobbly bass lines. The Juno edition of the single comes in exclusive packaging of kraft paper hand stamped inner sleeve, additional branded card sleeve, signed insert, sticker and plastic protective outer sleeve. As played by DJ Spinna,Faze Action,Jonny Rock and many more

  1. Letta Mbulu - "Mahlalela"
  2. Dick Khoza - "Chapita" (Nik Weston Exclusive 7 Inch edit)
Review: Two monumental South African groove-beauties for the latest installment of the Afro Funk Gems series from Mukatsuku. First up is a trip back to 1970, just three years after Letta Mbulu escaped apartheid and moved the US (and fifteen years before she collaborated with Michael Jackson on "Librarian Girl") the horn-laded, feel-good "Mahlalela" came from her third album and was licenced by Tamla Motown in South Africa too for a rare as hen's teeth 45. Flip for an edit from Mr Mukatsuku himself as he breaks down Dick Khoza and the Pelican Club house band's politically charged "Chapita". Stunning. As played by DJ Spinna,Diesler,Luke Slater,Volcov,Smoov,Scrimshire,Ashley Beedle etc

Review: Mukatsuku Records serve up two killer afro boogie funk tracks taken from the 1979 holy grail Cry For Peace & Love album from Nigerian band Mixed Grill. Two tracks from the album are revisited- "Brand New Wayo" and "Funky People", both retaining the funkier elements whilst label boss Nik Weston edits them down to a handy 45 length . The tracks have been mastered by the legendary Mastering Engineer Sean P, who made a series of disco/boogie compilations with Joey Negro and also curated one of the best selling Originals compilations on Claremont 56. Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Rim & Kasa - "Love Me For Real" (Nik's edit)
  2. Rim Kwaku Obeng - "Gas Line" (Nik's re edit)
Review: Label owner Nik Weston is no stranger to a bit of funk n disco editing, and his Mukatsuku imprint is home to some of the rarest and most coveted Afro tunes around, always anted-up and reinvented for the modern dance floor by the man himself. 2 official tracks licensed from BBE with get the tasteful edit workout kicking off with "Love Me For Real" by Rim & Kasa, an instantly seductive disco killer with an ever-growing groove, sweaty, funked out vocals and an altogether sublime vibe for the party. Funk
  1. Sharon Revoal - "Reaching For Our Star" (3:41)
  2. Swan Silvertones - "If You Believe Your God Is Dead (Try Mine)" (3:13)
Review: Mukatsuku Records dig deep once more with a sweet little 45 featuring two officially licensed stormers dripping with rarity. "Reaching For Our Star" from Sharon Revoal is a big soul monster that you may well have heard dropped in sets from Gilles Peterson, Sam Floating Points and Four Tet. Originally surfacing on the Forte Records label circa 1980, the track is fairly bossed by the low slung disco bassline and Sharon's sultry vocal delivery and will nice up any disco or funk dance. Mukatsuku make this 7" all the more delicious with the B-side presence of The Swan Silvertones jammer "If You Believe Your God Is Dead (Try Mine)" which is surely one of the funkiest gospel 45's to come out of the early 70's!! As played by DJ Spinna,Ge Ology on NTS,Sadar Bahar,Red Greg,Ashley Beedle,Marc Hype,Nicola Conte,Juergen Jazzanova,Floating Points and many more

  1. Wganda Kenya - "Tipit Hayed" (Blundetto remix -Nik's edit)
  2. Fruko Y Sus Tesos - "Salsa Na Ma" (original mix)
Review: As played by Sadar Bahar two more slices of official dance floor dynamite from the Disco Fuentes catalogue get unleashed on the strictly vinyl only, singles only Mukatsuku Record label for summer 2013. First up is an unreleased version of the popular Wganda Kenya club favourite 'Tipit Hayed' which Blundetto had done a few years ago for his own DJ sets but never surfaced commercially. On the flipside a bona fide salsa funk monster which a piano intro to die for from Fruko Y Sus Tesos. The Juno edition of the single comes in exclusive packaging of kraft paper hand stamped inner sleeve, additional branded card sleeve, signed insert, sticker and plastic protective outer sleeve

Funk
  1. Wganda Kenya - "Bayesa"
  2. M' Bamina - "Atide O Sika" (Nik Weston edit)
Review: Gems? Diamonds, more like. Sparkling funky diamonds that shine from every guitar, horn, bass and deep belly-driven chants. First up is a 1976 number from Wganda Kenya who actually come from Colombia. You'd never tell; with vast harmonies and a sonic span that's as wide as the Serengeti plains, its heart beats to a strict Kenyan rhythm. M'Bamina add a French African touch to the B on a specially edited version of "Atide O Sika" by label boss Nik Weston under his MUKAT edit guise. Watch out for the deconstructed percussion and bass break. A finer example of an edit you will not find. The Juno edition of the single comes in exclusive packaging of kraft paper hand stamped inner sleeve, additional branded card sleeve, signed insert, sticker and plastic protective outer sleeve
