Funk
  1. Chapparrals - "Hittin It"
  2. The Diddys - "My Special Love" (feat Paige Douglas -produced By Charles Earland)
Review: Super official rareness for Mukatsuku as they dig deep in their box of gems to unearth two stormers from the USA neither of which have either ever been out on a 45 before. First up from 1978 is Atlanta Georgia based funk/boogie group The Chapparrals which featured Cameo guitarist/vocalist Anthony Lockett with a track that kicked off the Holy Grail Shake Your Head album on the private label Maximillion . '' Hittin' It'' does exactly what it states on the tin as a monstrous funk groove ably assisted from a punchy brass section leads way to a swirling synth and bassline workout. The track on the flipside also never out as a single in it's own right is by The Diddys featuring Paige Douglas and lifted from the Agony And Extasy album from 1977 produced by Charles Earland for the Bam Buu label. Soulful Disco Funk with tight drums and an overload of lead guitar and that killer vocal melody that will stick in your brain for weeks...

Funk
  1. Courtial - "Losing You" (with Errol Knowles) (3:05)
  2. Sounds Of The City Experience - "Getting Down" (4:06)
Review: Weston's curatorial crusade continues as he unearths more criminally overlooked/under-pressed rarities from the golden ages; "Losing You" comes from Courtial and Errol Knowles outstanding 1976 soul jazz album. The most straight up soul joint from the album, it's an instant sweat-fest with real guts behind both the vocals and instrumentation. Flip for the jazz funk whirlwind that is "Getting Down". Taken from their eponymous, once-super rare ($1500 per copy rare) album (also released in 76), it's an instrumental hurricane led by strings, horns and bombastically swung drums. Powerful. DJ Support from Snowboy,Sadar Bahar,Dom Servini,Faze Action,Pete Jelly Jazz,Flea Market Funk,ParisDJs.com, Marc Hype,Nicola Conte, Volcov and more

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Come To Me (Nik Weston Official extended Re edit)
  2. Come To Me (original version)
  3. LA Walk (Nik Weston Official extended Re edit)
Review: It would be fair to say that Estiban Lindsay's one and only album, 1980's L.A Walk, is something of a sought-after rarity. Considered by many disco/boogie diggers to be a must-have, original copies of the Canadian classic currently change hands for three-figure sums online. Ever the dusty-fingered digger, Nik Weston has managed to license two tracks from the album, and provides his own extended dancefloor re-edits. Both are subtly done, with Weston - alongside Faze Action man Robin Lee on engineering duties - teasing out Lindsay's grooves and making more of his deliciously soulful versions, all without adding needless house drums or contemporary production tricks. The EP also contains the original version of the warm, disco-boogie gem "Come To Me".

Funk
  1. Jo Tongo - "Piani"
  2. Sookie - "Rhythm On Rhythm" (Nik Weston Exclusive Funky Re edit - Produced By Joe Bisso)
Review: They sometimes say that perseverance will win the day in the end and this is what happened with the Afro Funk monster of 'Piani' from French African artist Jo Tongo that took several years of negotiation to bring to the fruition of a potential Mukatsuku Records release. From the haunting intro this is one tune that you will never forget after first listen as it tippytoes through an afrocentric funk /disco groove that will keep your dancefloor alight. On the flipside the Joe Bisso produced funk gem 'Rhythm On Rhythm' from Sookie gets an edit from label boss Nik Weston who trims, tucks and replays the funkier elements of the track with repeated breaks and lashings of brass stabs and wobbly bass lines. The Juno edition of the single comes in exclusive packaging of kraft paper hand stamped inner sleeve, additional branded card sleeve, signed insert, sticker and plastic protective outer sleeve. As played by Faze Action,Jonny Rock and many more

Review: One of the biggest afrobeat/afroboogie releases in the last 6 years gets a worthy Juno re press......An explosive slice of Afro beat from Kaleta gets the licensing thumbs up from Mukatsuku, who finally get this gem to the Fela faithful. Originally clocking in at over 14 minutes, its been chopped virtually in half to add more punch and immediacy, whilst on the flip Guynamite and label boss Nik Weston under the GUYNAMUKAT guise add a more contemporary boogie house twist to the original, in doing so losing none of the vitality or the 'Fela' essence.
Found Sounds DJ Magazine .DJ support comes from Eddie C,Mr Scruff,Jazzanova,Kevin Beadle,Gilles Peterson,Michael Ruetten,Ennio Styles,Pete Isaac Jelly Jazz,Adrian Gibson etc etc

Funk
  1. Kiki Gyan - "Love To Love You" (Niks Official 7 Inch edit)
  2. Tunji Oyelana - "It's Not Your Fault Brother" (Niks Soundway Records Official 7 Inch edit)
Review: Mukatsuku host another funk-drenched Cup Of Nations play-off as Ghana go toe to toe with Nigeria. Kiki Gyan go in on the offensive with big disco dynamics, golden harmonies and pristine instrumentation from the horns to the keys. Tunji Oyelana returns every shot with a more traditional afrofunk strategy, shiny highlife guitars, sterling spoken word and occasional tripped out key flurries. This version from Nik Weston was originally destined for Soundway Records who commisioned the mix a couple of years ago but never subsequently came out so Mukatsuku licenced it back with Tunji's blessing so we could put it on a 45 for the label.

International
  1. Letta Mbulu - "Mahlalela"
  2. Dick Khoza - "Chapita" (Nik Weston Exclusive 7 Inch edit)
Review: Two monumental South African groove-beauties for the latest installment of the Afro Funk Gems series from Mukatsuku. First up is a trip back to 1970, just three years after Letta Mbulu escaped apartheid and moved the US (and fifteen years before she collaborated with Michael Jackson on "Librarian Girl") the horn-laded, feel-good "Mahlalela" came from her third album and was licenced by Tamla Motown in South Africa too for a rare as hen's teeth 45. Flip for an edit from Mr Mukatsuku himself as he breaks down Dick Khoza and the Pelican Club house band's politically charged "Chapita". Stunning.

Funk
  1. Marcia Hines - "You Gotta Let Go"
  2. Jackie Wilson - "You Keep Me Hanging On"
Review: Mukatsuku dig deep in the crates for the inaugural volume of their new Lost Soul & Funk Gems vinyl only series which casts it's net across the globe to uncover some lesser known nuggets. Leading the way is the under played boogie funk soul disco masterpiece, ''You Gotta Let Go '' from Australian songstress Marcia Hines, originally released on her 1975 album Marcia Shines on Wizard Records. It's super rare on a 45 and copies on separate Australian & Italian only 45's fetch several hundred pounds when you can find a copy. On the flip a lesser know soul masterpiece of the much covered anthem "You Keep Me From Hanging On'' from US legendary performer Jackie Wilson. Tingles down the spine aplenty as Jackie's superb vocals nail this bonafide classic underpinned by a great big band arrangement and backing vocals. As far as we know this is the first time this version has ever been available as a single in its' own right. The Juno edition of the single comes in exclusive packaging of kraft paper hand stamped inner sleeve, additional branded card sleeve, signed insert, sticker and plastic protective outer sleeve

Funk
  1. Sharon Revoal - "Reaching For Our Star" (3:41)
  2. Swan Silvertones - "If You Believe Your God Is Dead (Try Mine)" (3:13)
Review: Mukatsuku Records dig deep once more with a sweet little 45 featuring two officially licensed stormers dripping with rarity. "Reaching For Our Star" from Sharon Revoal is a big soul monster that you may well have heard dropped in sets from Gilles Peterson, Sam Floating Points and Four Tet. Originally surfacing on the Forte Records label circa 1980, the track is fairly bossed by the low slung disco bassline and Sharon's sultry vocal delivery and will nice up any disco or funk dance. Mukatsuku make this 7" all the more delicious with the B-side presence of The Swan Silvertones jammer "If You Believe Your God Is Dead (Try Mine)" which is surely one of the funkiest gospel 45's to come out of the early 70's!! As played by Ge Ology on NTS,Sadar Bahar,Red Greg,Ashley Beedle,Marc Hype,Nicola Conte,Juergen Jazzanova,Floating Points and many more

  1. Love & Live Feat Navasha Daya (Exclusive Root Soul Afro mix) (6:34)
  2. Still In Love (Exclusive Nik Weston & Rudy's Midnight Machine Epic Strings version) (5:44)
  3. Take A Look At Yourself (feat Diviniti) (8:06)
Review: Kyoto Jazz Massive's Shuya gets the highly limited luxury release treatment from Weston's Mukatsuku. Amid the treats are some delicious beats, all exclusive to vinyl. You may already know the jittering, organic funk of both "Take A Look At Yourself" and "Love & Live" from the Root Soul version album on Village Again last year. However, Mukatsuku have coaxed an all new Root Soul Afrobeat version of the latter for this 12" and put it pride of place on the A-side. Complementing this, Weston and Rudy's Midnight Machine remix of "Still In Love" genuinely lives up to its Epic Strings tag, too. Languishing in dramatics but with full pomp reserved, it's yet another Mukatsuku masterpiece. DJ support from Danny Krivit,Patrick Forge,Hunee,Volcov,Sadar Bahar,Jazztronik,Simbad,Rainer Truby,Rob Luis (Tru Thoughts) and LeFto etc

  1. Wganda Kenya - "Tipit Hayed" (Blundetto remix -Nik's edit)
  2. Fruko Y Sus Tesos - "Salsa Na Ma" (original mix)
Review: As played by Sadar Bahar two more slices of official dance floor dynamite from the Disco Fuentes catalogue get unleashed on the strictly vinyl only, singles only Mukatsuku Record label for summer 2013. First up is an unreleased version of the popular Wganda Kenya club favourite 'Tipit Hayed' which Blundetto had done a few years ago for his own DJ sets but never surfaced commercially. On the flipside a bona fide salsa funk monster which a piano intro to die for from Fruko Y Sus Tesos. Funk
  1. Wganda Kenya - "Bayesa"
  2. M' Bamina - "Atide O Sika" (Nik Weston edit)
Review: Gems? Diamonds, more like. Sparkling funky diamonds that shine from every guitar, horn, bass and deep belly-driven chants. First up is a 1976 number from Wganda Kenya who actually come from Colombia. You'd never tell; with vast harmonies and a sonic span that's as wide as the Serengeti plains, its heart beats to a strict Kenyan rhythm. M'Bamina add a French African touch to the B on a specially edited version of "Atide O Sika" by label boss Nik Weston under his MUKAT edit guise. Watch out for the deconstructed percussion and bass break. A finer example of an edit you will not find. The Juno edition of the single comes in exclusive packaging of kraft paper hand stamped inner sleeve, additional branded card sleeve, signed insert, sticker and plastic protective outer sleeve
