Demuir - "Lusting U" (feat Bluey Robinson) (6:31)
DJ Sneak - "Judy Russell Red" (6:31)
Review: Kerri Chandler has once again dipped into the vaults of his long-running Kaoz Theory label and picked out two previously digital-only gems deserving of a belated vinyl debut. On side A you'll find Demuir's soulful and uplifting 2020 jam 'Lusting U', a rolling chunk of semi-organic house warmth featuring superb lead vocals from British vocalist Bluey Robinson. Over on side B, it's all about DJ Sneak's 'Judy Russell', a killer cut first featured on his Movin' Parts EP three years ago. A bit deeper, woozier and more loose-limbed than some of his more muscular and forthright workouts, it sees the veteran producer wrap synthesized vocalisations and sunny chords around a chunky bassline and swinging house beats that sound like they could have come straight out of Kenny Dope's MPC.

Fair & Square
Mother Of Funk
Review: Frosted has pulled off a big one here as they snap up the one and only Chicago house gangster, long-time vinyl advocate and BBQ king, DJ Sneak. His debut on the label goes big, as the man often does, with 'Beat Generation' showcasing his mastery of drum loops and smart filters. It's unrelenting and funky in its own low-key way then a Horns mix brings some extra fun. 'Fair & Square' has an old school feel with sweet little guitar riffs stitched into the arrangement next to yelping vocal as the dusty drums roll on. 'Mother Of Funk' has a deeper feel and will lock you into its warming embrace.

Galactic Funk EP
Galactic Funk EP (translucent yellow vinyl 12")
Cat: PHONOGRAMME 42. Rel: 07 Mar 24

Deep House
Let It Go (7:43)
Galactik Funk (6:38)
Soft & Ruff (6:11)
Crashin' Out (6:46)
Review: He calls himself the house gangster and who are we to disagree with Puerto Rico-born, Chicago-bred house innovator DJ Sneak? He has been kicking out the jams for decades now, slaws with a raw edge and loopy, infectious style that is akin to French filter house. This new Galactic Funk EP comes on Phonogramme on acid yellow vinyl and packs his usual punch across a quarter of club-ready jams that have hooky melodies fluttering away up top as the dusty, rusty drums sounds do their thing down low. Another irresistible weapon from the big man.

No More Waiting EP

Minimal/Tech House
No More Waiting (6:25)
Help Is On The Way (6:11)
1234 (7:04)
Essex Strolling (7:42)
Review: DJ Sneak is of course the self-proclaimed house gangster and proud lover of his own BBQ skills. He is also a man who knows how to make a damn good house groove with fizzy loops and weighty drums that never fail to lock us in. And that's just what we get here with a new EP via Digital Tape Recordings that kick off with the train-track grooves of 'No More Waiting.' There is more bump and grind to 'Help Is On The Way' with its chopped-up vocal loops, and '1234' then has a little garage skip in its bones. 'Essex Strolling' shuts down with a deeper vibe.

The Betta House EP
Cat: PUL 005. Rel: 26 Jun 23

Deep House
Betta House (6:14)
Bounce More (6:16)
Seven Spice Rubz (6:17)
Review: Purveyor Underground Limited signs up one of house music's most notable names and early tastemakers here. The one and only BBQ king, famous cigar smoker and straight talking Chicago house great that is DJ Sneak captures a fine bit of form on these three jams. There's a loopy warmth to 'Betta House' that you never want to end, then 'Bounce More' pairs busy synth details with a cuddly and cavernous bassline as well as signature Sneak drums. 'Seven Spice Rubz' brings a little beat of heat to the floor with its amped up feels and tribal twist.

Darius Syrossian - "Big Bizness" (feat DJ Sneak - Todd Edwards remix) (6:21)
Review: Born out of a friendship stretching back many years, DJ Sneak lets loose two heavyweight house weapons on Darius Syrossian's Moxy Muzik, with label head Syrossian also serving up his own Sneak sampling slice of heat, complete with a remix from none other than Todd Edwards. The A-siders, 'Blow Ya Mind' and 'Return Of The Gas', are trademark Sneak; punchy and passionate, with a real OG's touch. On the flip, Syrossian slots into place a perfectly-sampled section of one of Sneak's voicenotes to him for 'Big Bizness'; it's a beefy roller, certainly not messing about. For the sendoff, Todd Edwards famously heard it, loved it, and was brought in to remix it in true Todd 'The God' style.
