A Modern Classic Reinvented:
The Prophet REV2 is Dave Smith's reimagining of his Prophet '08 poly synth - a modern classic that has appeared on countless recordings and stages since its debut in 2007. As Dave puts it, "The Prophet REV2 is the realization of our effort to enhance and improve everything we could about the original design - all at a more accessible price."

The Prophet REV2 retains all of the key features of the Prophet '08 and expands on them. It has twice the polyphony, twice the mod matrix, waveshape modulation on all waveforms, digital effects per layer in stacked or split voice mode, a polyphonic step sequencer per layer, and more. The result is a true analog powerhouse.

Best of all, you can download any of the many existing libraries of Prophet '08 sounds and they will not only sound identical, but can be enhanced with the new features.

16-Voice Polyphony:
With 16 voices to play with, you have the freedom to allocate them as you wish. Play two-fisted chords, stack two 8-voice sounds for massive, complex textures, or split the keyboard into two completely separate 8-voice instruments.

Bold Sound:
The Prophet REV2 gets its bold, punchy sound from its 2/4 pole, low-pass, resonant Curtis filters per voice. These are the same filters used not only in the Prophet '08, but in many classic instruments of the 70's and 80's. A separate Audio Mod control adds additional harmonic complexity and movement.

Waveshape Modulation:
A powerful new feature unique to the Prophet REV2 is waveshape modulation. You can now vary the "pulse width" of any of the four waveforms (sawtooth, saw+tri, triangle, square). Using the Shape Mod control, you can manually dial in a desired waveshape width or use an LFO or other mod source for continuously shifting timbre. Even single-oscillator sounds take on new depth and dimension. The tonal possibilities are vast.

Effects Per Layer:
The effects section provides reverb, delays (standard and BBD), chorus, phase shifter, ring modulation, and distortion. In stacked or split voice mode, you can apply a different effect to each layer. Effects parameters can be modulated through the Mod Matrix.

Extended Mod Matrix:
Also present from its predecessor is an easy-to-assign Mod Matrix, now twice as big, with 8 individual slots and many more sources/destinations. It's a veritable sound designer's playground.

Poly Step Sequencing:
The polyphonic step sequencer allows up to 64 steps and up to 6 notes per step. You can create a different sequence for each layer when you are working in stacked or split voice mode, making it a powerful tool for composition or performance. The sequencer also functions as a modulation source in gated mode, allowing you to create up to 4 different 16-step sequences for complex modulation. Sequences allow ties and rests, and can sync to an external MIDI clock. The arpeggiator features note repeats, re-latching, and can be synced to external MIDI clock, as well.

Per-Knob Programmability:
The knob-per-function front panel offers instant access to Prophet REV2 functions. Included are 512 permanent factory programs and 512 rewritable user programs.

Eminently Playable:
All of this polyphonic power is packed into a five-octave, premium-quality, semi-weighted keyboard with velocity and channel aftertouch. Other road-worthy features include an integrated power supply, USB support, and a crisp OLED display, making the Prophet REV2 an ideal instrument for gigging or recording, and an analog powerhouse like no other.

VIP operates as a plugin inside any major digital audio workstation (DAW) or as a stand-alone application on both Mac and Windows operating systems.

Dedicated physical controls are thoughtfully included, with our RGB backlit, velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads on each keyboard surface. Rubberized pitch and modulation wheels provide simple, direct note manipulation with musically natural action. Easily-gripped, continuously-variable endless knobs let you make adjustments with granular or dramatic effect. VIP software users can also create setlists that provide on-demand access to your customized instruments for stage performance and studio work. By simply pressing a single button on an Advance Keyboard, you can adapt to song changes as the live performance progresses-without ever reaching for your computer. That's what you want!

You'll also love VIP's facilities for hyper-fast instrument and patch browsing, key zone splitting, layering of up to 8 instruments per VIP instance, expansive custom mapping capabilities, and support for any VSTi plugin. You can run as many instances of the Virtual Instrument Player as your computer allows. VIP runs as a VSTi, AU, RTAS or AAX plugin, allowing you access to VSTi's in virtually any DAW, such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro X and Ableton Live.

With the Advance Keyboards, you get uninhibited access to any virtual instrument in your library without losing focus of the instrument in front of you. Nothing else can do that for you.

 1 in stock $95.47
Cat: 659985 Rel: 14 Aug 17

24 bit/192kHz portable digital-to-analog converter with analog & coaxial digital outputs
Notes: Micro DAC is a USB digital-to-analog (DAC) 24 bit/192kHz converter with two outputs, one analog and one digital (optical). It's ideal for converting the audio from your computer into a high-quality analog format without needing to carry anything larger than a flash drive. The sound quality available from the typical headphone jack on a portable device or coming from the standard-issue soundcard found in virtually every computer leaves a lot to be desired. Micro DAC delivers a marked upgrade in sound quality, compared to just plugging your headphones directly into your unit's headphone jack.

Use the 1/8-inch analog output to connect any headphones, and enjoy vibrant high-fidelity sound and since virtually all high-quality audio equipment has an optical digital input, Micro DAC's optical digital output is perfect for driving that equipment with a pure digital signal - especially valuable since most computers do not have a digital output.

Micro DAC has a rugged aluminium housing and is USB-bus-powered. Getting professional-quality audio from your computer couldn't be easier!

Review: For the label's first compilation, Cabaret Records has decided to introduce us to their Alien Family. By the sounds of the collection, they're a motley crew of studio mutants united by a love of creaking hardware, sci-fi synths and intergalactic dancefloor workouts. Happily, highlights are plentiful, from the acid-fired, bleep-heavy throb of S-Audio's "Remote Circuit" and weighty electro crackle of Binh's "Wova", to the dreamy underwater deepness of EK Box's "Watair" and the classic deep house/Detroit techno fusion of So Inagawa's futurist masterpiece "Solitary Affair". Evan Baggs's contribution, the TB-303 madness that is "AZS", is also superb.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: Once more scouring the annals of disco history for the hottest jams, Best look beyond Italy and snap up this much-vaunted slice of American funk from 1982. While second hand prices can get out of control, it's not hard to hear why this glittering prize from Jagg would be so coveted - it's got everything. Jazz-leaning slap bass, mean synthesizer chops and soaring vocals - "Take Time" is prime to set the party off, and no longer is it the preserve of wealthy collectors. Originally a single-sided affair, Best have done the right thing and filled the B-side up with an extended version to let that groove roll on even longer.

Review: REPRESS ALERT! Best Record Italy take the time machine all the way back to 1979 to revisit the wonderful Italo-Disco delights of Adolf Stern, whose "More... I Like It" represents the strangest end of the genre as it was taking shape. With heavily processed vocals injecting some serious strangeness into the chirpy disco backdrop, it's the kind of track to turn heads without a doubt. "Twenty Seven" on the B-side is equally magical in its capturing of the era, with the more obvious surface elements underpinned by a truly intoxicating line in synth arpeggios. Once again Best comes up trumps refreshing the history of Italian music of all shapes and sizes.

Review: REPRESS ALERT: With the Grupo Almendra album fresh out of the gates, Italian label Best Records jump right back in with a crucial slice of disco funk from noted arranger, producer and karate expert Pino Presti. "You Know The Way" is a slinky party starter with on-point slap bass, lively brass and sumptuous Philly strings of the highest order. As if the original wasn't funky enough, the B-side features a disco remix from dearly departed New York disco legend Tee Scott, who subtly buffs up the dancefloor potential of the track to devastating effect.

Review: Bonafide house OGs Mateo & Matos have spawned a whole legion of influential aliases over the years (House Faze, Division 1, 2 Trax and many more) but Raw Elements was where it all began. Following Flash Forward's release of "Raw Basics" earlier this year comes the duo's follow-up also released in 92... "Back To Bay Six". Each of the four cuts strutting with blueprint funk. Loose drums, swaggering instrumentation and warm organs, there's a latent funk running throughout as the duo showed the world how it was done 25 years ago. To the core.

Review: Since launching last year, Ari Goldman's World Building label has delivered a couple of killer EPs that look to vintage '90s house for inspiration. It's rather fitting, then, that the imprint's latest 12" is a reissue of an obscure white label from 1995. "Smiling Faces" saw One Man's Quest (AKA Bob Vega and Douglas Johnson) brilliantly re-invent the Rare Earth classic of the same name. While the A-side club versions - think bumpin', soulful, ultra-deep, organ-sporting New Jersey deep house - are undeniably brilliant, the real gems can be found on the flipside. Here, as on the original 1995 Vandal Records 12", the forgotten production pair re-cast the song as a slo-mo chunk of hazy, piano-heavy "R&B". Loved-up, blissful and genuinely soulful, they're thrilling covers in their own right. Simply essential, all told.

  2. DSP (Dear Sweet Potato) (3:07)
Review: Given the clear West London broken beat and hazy jazz-funk influences that marked out his superb 2015 album From Joy, it's perhaps unsurprising that Kyle Hall's latest seven-inch missive explores similar sonic territory. While the standout is arguably the impeccable downtempo shuffler "DSP (Dear Sweet Potato)" - all gently tumbling synth lines, stoned drum machine hits (in a slipped jazz time signature, of course) and sun-kissed chord progressions - it's undoubtedly A-side "Teacher Plant" that will get all the props. Shot through with the fireside warmth and groovy vibes of deep house, but built around dexterous broken beats and Kaidi Tatham style keys-work, it's one of the producer's most well-rounded and effective releases of recent times.

Review: Way back in 1992, John Mateo and Eddie Matos - then in the flush of youth and still establishing themselves as top-drawer deep house producers - donned the Raw Elements alias and released Back 2 Bay Six. 25 years on, the EP has been given the reissue treatment by the on-point Flash Forward camp. Musically, it remains one of the deepest, dubbiest and most alluring EPs in the duo's epic back catalogue. For proof, check the rolling organs, stripped-back percussion, huggable bass and impassioned vocal samples of "Back 2 Day Six", the jazzy swing of "Sax 5th Avenue" and the breezy basement bounce of standout closer "On The Train", whose off-kilter rhythm is particularly inviting.

Review: Nomadico is Dan Caballero aka the Underground Resistance affiliated DJ Dex. His new Gentefication EP is inspired by the movement of the same name in East Los Angeles that's striving to maintain the local street culture without selling out to real estate developers and hipsters. More power to 'em we say! The title track on the A side is emotive hi-tech soul: just the way we like it and sounding like his old days with Los Hermanos or Ican. The gritty B side cut "Graff Walk" was probably our favourite of the bunch. With its buzzy sub bass snarl and rusty spitfire rhythm patterns going for some proper 'street techno' style. This really is a soundtrack for 'young barrio coders, digital artists and community organizers.' as Yaxteq claim. And they'll certainly continue to honour high-tech urban innovation that goes against all expectations.

Review: Following up UK act Ruf Dug's captivating debut album Island on Music For Dreams in 2016, which garnered great reviews and attained success worldwide, the label is releasing a a series of remix EPs here entitled Island Remix. The last edition featured inspired remixes from some of the top tracks on the album, by the likes of Peaking Lights, 2814, Al Breadwinner and an ambient instrumental by label head honcho Kenneth Bager. Here, we get undisputed Ibiza legends Leo Mas & Fabrice remix "Thank You Wally" into a balearic tinged acid house era groove, while "Mangrove Dub" (Tropical Hi-Fi Mangrove City version) is exactly the kind of slo-mo and sublime balearica you can expect to hear Bager play at his Cafe Mambo residency. As does Seahawks remix of "Le Rayon Vert" on the flip which is perfect for summer island style drifting; pina colada in hand.

Review: There's been a serious amount of online chatter about Dominik Eulberg and Essay's first collaboration, the in-demand "Dream Machine". It's something of a summery, feel-good treat, full of life-affirming chord progressions, swirling string arrangements, loved-up melodic loops and the kind of fluid synthesizer lines that could easily be classed as "Balearic". The track builds, falls and rises again seductively throughout, with the duo's huggable musical elements working in perfect harmony with a shuffling, unfussy tech-house groove. In other words, it's a wonderfully warm and inviting feel-good slab of Balearic techno guaranteed to put smiles on faces.

  2. Synchronized (7:36)
  3. Fedorova (7:22)
Review: Vincetiulian (AKA producer Chrirches Vincentiu Lulian) has quickly become one of the leading lights in the rapidly expanding Romanian minimal house scene. Here he returns to action following a six-month sabbatical via a rock-solid three-tracker on Liniar. His ability to neatly sidestep Romanian tech-house cliches is much in evidence on A-side "Melorhythm", where poignant and melancholic flashes of melody weave in and out of a metallic, broken house groove. While the sound palette is reminiscent of his previous productions, it's the brilliantly off-kilter nature of the rhythm that's tickled our fancy. On the flip you'll find the meticulously programmed tech-house box jam that is "Synchronized" (which features some brilliantly perky Clavinet flashes) and the undulating deepness of "Fedrova".

  1. Skodde - "Spokelse" (6:45)
  2. Korpex - "Facsimile" (6:58)
  3. Rub800 - "Domo" (5:37)
Review: Amenta is a new vinyl only record label from Norway and delivers a solid three tracker on the first release. Mysterious Scandinavian Skodde kicks things off with the trippy mini-funk of "Spokelse" which is reminiscent of early Cynosure releases, while Berlin's Korpex delivers some old school minimal house on the purely analogue tip with "Facsimile". Finally on the flip is Rub800, with "Domo" which is a funky, broken and swing fuelled jam with its quirky sensibilities calling to mind the recent work of Robin Ordell or Spacetravel. No repress!

  3. Bratias & Iulius - "Last Dance" (8:27)
  4. Octave & Dub Temptation - "Latenight Flip" (7:12)
Review: Minimal tech fiends, Bucharest Romania, are clearly proud of their country's passion and craft at making killer, off-the-wall dance beats with an edgy touch. This, once again, is a collaborative affair and it features some interesting new names form what feels like an ever-expanding unit of artists. Octave and Dub Tempation's "Audiotrip" perfectly encapsulates the sleek and beat-filled nature of these minimal beasts, while Bratias and Lulius' "Last Dance" strips it back to a moody nighttime flavor. All in all, we have good reason to say these are prime dancefloor bullets for the more tooled-up DJ.

  4. Exterminador - "Alien Landscapes" (4:48)
Review: In some ways, And Silently Vanish Away is an odd title for an EP packed with tracks that linger long in the memory. Certainly, electro heads will appreciate the heavy 808 hits, droning bass and fluttering, deep space electronics of Exterminador's brilliant "Alien Soundscapes", not to mention the trippy, delay-laden vocal samples, warped hardware melodies and scuttling drum machine rhythms of NGLY and Exterminador's "Broken Flowers". We're big fans, too, of Hinode's bustling, razor-sharp opener "Mission4" - the kind of track that would leap out of a DJ mix and send you rushing online to find out its identity - and the fuzzy, dust-encrusted techno hum of DJ Nephil's hypnotic "Codex".

Review: D.Ko bossman Flabaire steps away from his own stable for more silly phase adventures on Organic. Still neck deep in the research, still highly esoteric, he takes us where he left us in 2015 with his last single for the Strawberry Fields label with three delicious slices of evocative, feel-heavy classical house music. "M&P" shimmers with early progressive elements that twinkle like Twilo, "4Const" hits with a softer piano-stroked foreground but much more driven beat dynamic while "Alpha 2" brings us back into the future with a cosmic funk odyssey. Knock out material, as always.

Review: Riccardo Piazza and Re-Up's WWM builds on its well-received launch release from Reesdale Rise with its first V/A EP. Living up to its title immaculately Future Retro is a space-aged soul trip from established and breaking talents alike. Irish veteran Derek Carr takes us back to early UR joints with his body-moving analogue groove, Rob Belleville continues where he left us on Ante and Ibiza Boys with rippling filtered synths, newcomer Mihail P gets down to the 808 nitty gritty with a bouncing ball acid funk breaker while Erell Ranson closes the show on a hazy, dream-like weave of melting synths. Welcome to the future.

Disco/Nu-Disco
  1. Try Your Love (4:11)
  2. Close To You (4:03)
Review: Following the success of 1980 disco classic "I Like What You're Doing To Me", Young & Company ended up in a long contract dispute with their label, Brunswick. Co-producer Buddy Hankerson used the time to record a set of tracks with a new collection of musicians, the Shine Band. Sadly, none of these recordings were released at the time, making this Time Capsule 7" from the Super Disco Edits camp something of a red-hot exclusive. Rescued from reel-to-reel tapes found in Hankerson's brother's loft, both "Try Your Love" and "Close To You" are superb. While the latter - a leisurely chunk of boogie-soul that sits somewhere between two other Hankerson produced acts, Aurra and Slave - is impressive, it's the livelier, jauntier A-side (very Young & Company) that makes this 7" so desirable.

  2. Ebertplatz (7:01)
Review: Cologne twosome and renowned "Superfriends" Andhim return to action, this time wielding a large carving scythe and an enormous slab of kebab meat. Thankfully, "Donner" is not a glitchy minimal techno roller made out of manipulated kebab shop samples, but rather an attractive combination of drowsy analogue bass, Middle Eastern-inspired tech-house drums and rising and falling waves of mind-altering melody lines. It's rather tasty, all told (unlike donner meat), as is clandestine flipside "Ebertplatz". While underpinned by a typically Germanic groove and mildly foreboding chords, it's the duo's cascading electronic melodies and mind-bending analogue touches that really catch the ear.
