  1. Ksuscha/Deep Dance (9:12)
  2. Summertime In Bockenheim (6:47)
  3. Backyard Dreams (4:04)
Review: Orson Well's Sound Mirror imprint operates out of Frankfurt and presents for its sixth release a local young upstart named Gerait Schaefer. Classic deep house sounds from the '80s are on offer on this fine release. Starting out with the darkly emotive Windy City vibes of "Ksuscha/Deep Dance", the following track "Summertime In Bockheim" goes for more of a disco/boogie flavour with its retro synths and razor sharp analogue bassline supporting some blissful FM pad swirls. On the flip, we've also got a brilliant curve ball in the form of raw techno workout "Backyard Dreams" which would have equally been at home on a label like L.I.E.S.. We were really diggin' this nefarious little jam!

Review: Rare Brazil have brought us some brilliant bossanova compilations (with some steamy cover art!) over the last twenty odd years and can claim to be a definite authority on obscure Brazilian music: no argument there! Now they delve into much needed re-issues with Toque De Cuica which features two obscure gems, for the heads. First up the legendary Brazilian jazz drummer Airto Moreira serves up the feelgood disco vibes of "Toque De Cuica", while on the flip there's Erlon Chaves E Sua Banda Venemo with the sultry Latin soul-funk of "Cosa Nostra" coming off like a South American James Brown and band: you've got to hear this.

Review: SpectraSoul really aren't messing around with Ish Chat. Now hitting their third release, they've put out an album-sized trove of floor fire over the last year. No compromises, each cut has been exceptional and ticked a completely different box, this is the sound of two men on their absolute A-game... "Second Chance" is a persistent roller with pristine drums, an evocative faraway vocal refrain and lush grainy textures, "Fade Away" is just absolute darkness with a gruff, ruff BC-style grit to the bassline, "On & On" is a dreamboat roller with so much emotion you'll melt any crowd you play this to. Finally "Beat Keeps" taps into a halftime mentality with a whole gamut of gully twists along the way. Powerful stuff.

Review: All aboard! Disco mystery man Donald Dust shakes his tail feather with four pristine pieces of synth boogie disco soul on the fledgling London vibe farm No Bad Days. The label's consistent theme of positivity maintained throughout, Donald digs deep into his synths, painting from a palette that ranges from the montage-ready heartstring tugger "Dazzle Ship" to the fantastical touch-of-the-Terje party-ready adventure "Ghost House Theme" and softly concludes on the much more subdued "Demdike's North". Synthetic perfection.

  1. Pushing (303 Jazz mix) (7:53)

Review: New Rhythm Section International sublabel International Black has launched and if this is anything to go by; they're pushing the late night sounds of deepness on this pursuit courtesy of Ron Obvious and Phrased: of South London's L.B. Produce. These two fellas get some really sexy and evocative grooves happening, firstly with "Pushing (303 Jazz mix)" and its great sense of swing and '90s U.S. house aesthetic intact. On the flip we've got "Man Ray" which continues on with more loungey, Rhodes led mellow flavours. As label head honcho Bradley Zero explained, the label will be more clubby, weird and hypnotic. The material was recorded entirely on analogue hardware using reel to reel tape.

  2. 4 AM Exhale (Dave DK Accellerator mix 7-16) (7:15)
  3. 5th Dimensions (Joerg Burger Dschungeloper mix 8-42) (7:16)
Review: The Orb's 2016 set, C.O.W (Chill Out World) was almost universally acclaimed as a sofa-friendly return to form; a genuine ambient opus that owed more to Brian Eno than Lee 'Scratch' Perry. It's perhaps fitting, then, that the rework that kicks off this remix 12" - a wonderfully woozy, head-in-the-clouds affair by The Field - has no dancefloor pretensions whatsoever. It's very dubbed-out and hypnotic, of course, with undulating melody lines stretching out over layers of field recordings and barely audible samples. Elsewhere, Dave DK delivers loved-up chord progressions, fizzing synth lines and eccentric house beats, while the Joerg Burger Dschungeloper remix of "5th Dimensions" gets the right balance between rhythmic hypnotism and glistening ambient bliss.

Review: Although Henrik Schwarz has kept himself busy in recent years, it's been a while since he released a full-throttle dancefloor workout. This debut appearance on Gerd Janson's Running Back label - the German producer's first solo single 2013 - is arguably his most forthright and floor-friendly missive since the turn of the decade. "Not Only You" is a thumping techno stomper, where ragged, mutant, repetitive lead lines are propelled forwards by some seriously good drum machine programming. Flipside "Not You Also" offers a slightly more eccentric riff on the same blueprint, with Schwarz adding some eccentric spoken word segments and a couple of bold synth fills.

Review: Given his impressive track record, hopes are naturally high for Bonobo's sixth album, Migration, which is his first full-length since 2013. Happily, it's a majestic affair, with the producer delivering another sumptuous set of tracks. It was partly inspired by an extended period musing on the nature of personal identity, and the role that nationality plays in that. This concept is translated via thoughtful lyrics, and songs that draw musical influence from the four corners of the globe. It's not a big stylistic leap, of course - his bread and butter remains yearning, emotion-rich downtempo music built around gently jazzy grooves and impeccable live instrumentation - but given that few artists do it better than Bonobo, we'll forgive him for that.

Review: Last year, Patchworks man Bruno Havart indulged his long-held love of Afro-disco via a fine album under the Violaa alias. Here, Africaine 808 and Dimitri From Paris take it in turn to remix tracks from that set. The latter serves up two epic interpretations of album title track "On Te L'avait Dit". There's a full Disco Blend, in which he carefully teases out the track by layering up the original production before unleashing the catchy vocal, and a pleasingly percussive, groove-driven Dub. Interestingly, Africaine 808's mix of previous single "Spies Are Watching Me" sticks fairly close to the original, craftily emphasizing Havart's percussion, punchy horns and rich, Afro-disco bass.

Review: Surely not even the most ardent Bowie fan saw any of this coming. Yet to offset the justified grief and mourning at the most otherworldly and mercurial of all musical icons departing our realm, he's left us with one of his greatest albums to date and certainly his best in a full quarter century - one that returns him spiritually to the dizzying collision of bracing experimentation and melodious drama that typified the so-called Berlin trilogy of the '70s yet transplants that ambience to a new more complicated age. Jazzy inflections, electronic filigree and stark soundscapes collide elegantly amidst that stentorian voice, and whether or not Bowie put this together as a farewell, he couldn't have done it better if he'd tried. We'll truly never see his like again, alas.

Ideal for filling any holes in your collection, the likes of Uptown Funk Empire's Pharoah Saunders cover "Freedom", Manmademusic's gospel-level "Circles", Eddie C's tweaking, freaking drum funk "What It Is", Stacy and Peven's stuttering funk "Body Jerkin" still slap and tickle just as stylishly and smoothly as they did when Marcel first prised them from the editor's clutches... And still will in 10, 20 or 50 years-time. Proper dancefloor clobber.

Review: Igor Tchkotoua & Dan Duncan met on a flight to Spain and the rest as they say: is history. Their driving minimal/tech house sound has only gotten stronger over the years, culminating in this release for Adam Beyer's esteemed home of hard techno Drumcode. The classic rave techno of "Chemistry" is up there with anything that Alan Fitzpatrick or Special Request have done of late with its adrenalised warehouse euphoria. It's no more Mr. Nice Guy after this though. The powerful stomp of "Ukraine" is Berghain ready with its industrial strength rhythms and harsh static blasts, compressed between doom laden, dubby stabs. Finally on the flip, the brooding dancefloor drama of "Devotion" signals the end with its sinister and mesmerising melodies: reminiscent of Stephan Bodzin yet still powered away by a Berlin style stomp beneath.

Review: Having previously worked with SBTRKT, Kanye West, Drake, Jesse Ware and Frank Ocean, amongst others, Sampha is no newcomer. This, though, is the British singer, songwriter and producer's debut album, and it's something of an understated gem. One particularly enthusiastic reviewer called it "an R&B album for the ages"; while that may be pushing it a bit, there's no denying that Process is an impressive collection of tracks. The beats are inventive, the electronics crisp, the samples carefully chosen, and the musical touches pitched just right. At the centre of it all stands Sampha, delivering thoughtful, heartfelt and sometimes poignant lyrics in his wonderfully evocative voice.

To put it simply, it's brilliant, and arguably remains the Bristol-based outfit's finest work to date (though some would argue that the dark and paranoid Mezzanine is possibly better). As this weighty vinyl reissue proves, it's lost none of its hazy, dub-propelled trip-hop charm. All-time classics such as "Unfinished Sympathy", "Safe From Harm" and "Hymn of the Big Wheel" have lost none of their soulful, mood-enhancing brilliance, while lesser celebrated cuts such as "Five Man Army" and "Lately" still sound great despite their vintage.

Review: Dreamy Harbour celebrates 25 years of Berlin institution Tresor with several new and unreleased cuts by staples of the club and its seminal in house label alike. Featuring work of artists from the US, Germany, China, France, Austria, Italy and the UK, it is worth dwelling on how the cultural conditions that birthed Detroit techno (ie economic neglect and broken industry) were mirrored by the disused bunkers and impromptu parties of post-unification East Berlin. Techno a found new, vigorous expression. "Without Tresor, Berlin would not be what it is today," concludes founder Dimitri Hegemann. "Even though it sounds a bit pretentious, it is true. Tresor was the prototype for an extraordinary club. It was only possible as a combination of the right time, the right place, the right content and determined people." Excerpt of liner notes, by Rob Sharp - November 2016.

Review: Italian label ReBirth has carved a out a name for itself over the last decade for being fine purveyors of the 'real proper deep stuff'. Emotive, bittersweet and life-affirming grooves that avoid the fads and transients of current house music and instead focus on releasing timeless tracks: the kind that will still be played decades on. Label boss Daniele Contrini presents a bunch of fine remixes of the label's back catalogue by a who's who of the current scene. We were particularly fond of Ron Trent's music & power reprise of Tevo Howard 's "Without Me" featuring the unmistakable vocals of Tracey Thorn, Japanese duo Bocca Grande's "Below My Hands" getting a soulful makeover by Chicago legend Roy Davis Jr, in addition to the always impressive Ewan Jansen doing his thing on Taras Van De Voorde's "1998" and of course current 'it' duo from Tel Aviv Red Axes doing their indie-balearic-disco thing on Robytek's "Luna Africana".

Review: A dedicated exploration of the short-lived but hugely influential San Diego imprint Musette Records. Three years (65-68) and less than 20 releases to its name but every track was serious piece of raw soul from many musicians who went on to life a long life in music. Echoes of Jake & Elwood can be found in Big Daddy Rucker while the surging blues of Arlene Williams will resonate hard with any card carrying Soul Investigators fan and the gospel of Ervin Rucker is so powerful it can raise the dead over 40 years later. With added cameos from Big Daddy's GME imprint, Tramp have created a critical piece of soul history right here.

Notes: The club environment can be harsh, with smoke, dust and sticky liquids being daily hazards for DJs and club owners to keep in check.

Decksavers are specifically designed to keep your technology investment safe and sound. Decksavers are tailor-made to exacting standards to fit the Technics turntable like a glove. Rather than using cheaper inferior acrylic, each one is made from polycarbonate, a very hardwearing plastic used in bullet proof glass, and made to fit your gear as closely as possible. The use of polycarbonate means that thinner material can be used, making for discrete, strong yet attractive protection for your Technics turntable. Indeed, great care is taken to trim each Decksaver to achieve the best fit and still leave cables in place.

The cover has a very strong contruction with sufficient flat areas allowing support for CDJs, laptops, midi controllers, etc.
