  3. Star Of The Story (6:17)
Review: Anyone that's seen Boston selector Kon spin in the past few years should pull up to the bumper and spend some time with this third transmission on his Star Time label. Centre stage is his much requested treatment of the George Benson standard "Give Me The Night" re-titled here as "Spirit Of The Party (Gimme The Night)" which rearranges proceedings to pull the original's closing harmony-based breakdown to the midpoint. Excellent stuff! Kon is a generous man however and there are two further edits on the flip to make this a triple trouble 12". "Love x Kon" is a stripped down to the bone rework with an almighty acapella-based finale, whilst "Star Of The Story" is all about that boogie filled electric bassline.

Review: Following up UK act Ruf Dug's captivating debut album Island on Music For Dreams in 2016, which garnered great reviews and attained success worldwide, the label is releasing a a series of remix EPs here entitled Island Remix. The last edition featured inspired remixes from some of the top tracks on the album, by the likes of Peaking Lights, 2814, Al Breadwinner and an ambient instrumental by label head honcho Kenneth Bager. Here, we get undisputed Ibiza legends Leo Mas & Fabrice remix "Thank You Wally" into a balearic tinged acid house era groove, while "Mangrove Dub" (Tropical Hi-Fi Mangrove City version) is exactly the kind of slo-mo and sublime balearica you can expect to hear Bager play at his Cafe Mambo residency. As does Seahawks remix of "Le Rayon Vert" on the flip which is perfect for summer island style drifting; pina colada in hand.

Review: The Voices Of East Harlem were an ensemble of vocalists who for Just Sunshine Records recorded two albums under the direction of Leroy Hutson and Curtis Mayfield. "Cashing In" is one of their most classic songs, a highly sought after track on original 7" fetches a small fortune on the collectors market. First recorded and released in 1973, it has all the hallmarks of a Leroy Hutson composition and an established audience that crosses the boundaries of northern, crossover and modern soul. The song is coupled here with "Take A Stand', another highly regarded and sought after modern soul room dance floor tracks, never previously released on 7" single until now

Review: Given her rising reputation in recent years, it's something of a surprise to find that Rembo is Karen Gwyer's first full-length excursion since 2013's Kiki The Wormhole on Opal Tapes. While that latter set was impressive, Rembi is arguably even better. For starters, Gwyer refuses to settle on one groove, following a glistening ambient opener with a fuzzy, IDM-influenced chunk of left-of-centre dancefloor techno, which in turn makes way for a beat-less slab of hazy synthesizer positivity. It's a pattern that continues throughout, as the talent American producer delivers bustling, redlined techno jams laden with dirt-encrusted synthesizer motifs, spacey IDM club tracks and picturesque electronic soundscapes that sidestep easy categorization.

  1. Entitled To That (3:43)
  2. Get Down On You (3:36)
Review: Bristol outfit the Allergies has enjoyed a hugely successful year so far, releasing a string of killer funk and soul sevens on Jalepeno Records. Astonishingly, "Entitled To That" could be their biggest single yet. Certainly, the title track is superb; a revivalist Northern Soul style stomper full of hazy horns, fuzzy guitars, sweaty drums and the kind of strong, empowered vocal that recalls some of soul music's greatest female singers. Wisely, there's a slightly more laidback feel about flipside "Get Down on You", where crunchy Clavinet lines wrap themselves around a snappy funk breakbeat. It's a fine tune, of course, but pales in comparison to the killer A-side. Regardless, this should be an essential purchase for funk DJs.

Review: The Allergies' debut album introduced the world to the way they effortlessly fuse funk, soul, disco, hip-hop and breaks into dancefloor-ready nuggets of ear candy. Taking classic sounds and reshaping them for the modern age is the signature that won them plaudits across the globe. Not ones to rest on their laurels, it hasn't taken long for them to deliver more of the goods on their second full-length album. As well as taking the successful formula of the first record and expanding on their sound, the band enlisted two giants of underground hip-hop to bless mics on the album as well. After a hugely successful collaboration on their debut LP, once again the dynamic lyricism and production skills of the inimitable Andy Cooper (Ugly Duckling) are present and correct in this new collection.

Four cuts in all, each one driving with a deep tracky nature but the perfect balance of leftfield approach; the dusty foggy keys on "100,00", the swung percussion and otherworldly textures on "Miles", the jazzy dynamics and Detroitian insistency of "Bongo" and the stuttering technoid lunar excursion "Cue Ball" all maintain Money Sex's reputation for experimentation that still kicks ass on the floor.

Review: How do you make a trippy, claustrophobic and mind-altering record even more out-there and atmospheric? Give it to Burial to remix, of course. Predictably, the shadowy producer does a superb job reworking Monic's undeniably baked "Deep Summer", offering up a version vastly different from the red-eye sporting original. While Monic's version sounds like "Mezzanine"-era Massive Attack after a fistful of anti-depressants, Burial's take wraps the original's hazy female vocal samples (talking about the sunrise, no less) around lilting, marimba style melodies and gentle, tribal beats that are mixed so low you can barely hear them. Throw in some sun-kissed guitar motifs and heaps of vinyl crackle, and you have a genuine downtempo delight.

Review: The latest Crimes Of The Future comes from Dimitri Distant and LVRIN, two emergent artists with a penchant for pitch black grooves steeped in the kind of acidic, wavey styles that COTF are consistently striking gold with. "Blasphemy" is a powerful slice of reductionist acid that uses a bare minimum of elements to create a sinister atmosphere to strike fear into the hearts of unwitting dancers. "Dead Sunday" is no slouch in the creepy department either, its clattering beats and bubbly acid line straining against a tape-stretched backdrop of synthesizer malaise. "Achromatic" switches stance to slow, undead electro soaked in embalming fluid and filtered through a B-movie veil for maximum guttural impact.

Review: Berlin's Nick Beringer (Rubisco/Wax Classic/Kase Kool) is back on on Greek DJ Stassy's Taverna Tracks with another banging EP! It dishes out four trippy, dreamy jams with a classic house attitude. Starting off on the A side with the rolling/late night deep house of "Area 22" with its subtle acid flourishes. It's then on to the title track, which rounds off the A side in style on this sexy, swing fuelled minimal house jam. On the flip, jazzy/hip hop inspired broken beat house is the order of the day, on the quite Money $ex indebted "Slack Joint" while "Airdrop" is the EPs finest moment: this hypnotic and sunny tech house journey really ticks all the boxes. The Foundation is set!

Review: Vinyl Only reach their seventh release with a fresh grip of lesser known producers bringing high grade grooves to the table. Bubbadog opens the 12" up in a woozy fashion with the warbling piano chords of "Goin' Round", capturing a time-slip mood that carries through to the dusty jazz soaked beat down of Minus The Majors' "Strole On Through". On the B-side, Alex Zuiev gets into an exotic, chiming, 80s-inflected mood on "Down By The River", creating a slow-burning dancefloor heater out of classic ingredients. Ugly Frankie finishes the EP off with the stripped down funk of "Your Ears Look Great".

Review: D'Marc Cantu is a don when it comes to warm, rich synth-laden house and techno, with a sprinkling of electro sprinkled over his approach for good measure. Now he comes to Altered Moods with an album that finds him in a particularly mellow mood, not least on sultry opener "Always On My Mind". There's space for experimentation, as the offbeat snare patter of "Blanket Statement" demonstrates, but by and large this is all about undulating house delights. "Mozaic" is a particular highlight with its captivating synth design and dreamy demeanour, while "SteamFunk" revels in skippy broken beats that flirt with twinkling leads and lashings of delayed bass. Plenty varied but consistent in tone, this is a damn fine album from a seasoned pro.

Review: This belated second 12" on Beauty & The Beat (the label's debut landed in 2015) comes courtesy of crate-digging DJ/producer Atemi and a revolving cast list of guest musicians. Opener "My People" - an "ode to friendship" according to the sleeve notes - sets the tone, with Atemi lacing African vocals over a gentle, bongo-laden beat, sun-kissed keys and woozy flutes. It's impeccable sunshine music, all told. The fluid collective opts for a different approach on the rather epic "Bamba Diounalene", a loose, soft touch dancefloor workout full of distinctive guitars, chanted vocals and post Afrobeat grooves. Japanese producer-in-London Kay Suzuki makes his presence felt on the flip, brilliantly wrapping a rolling, tribal drum groove in dreamy chords and spacey electronics.

Named after the famed American soft drink that tastes like mouthwash, the Root Beer EP features four servings of lo-fi house which will certainly fit in with the status quo currently set by the likes of Lobster Theremin, E-Beamz et al. The tough and driving vintage techno of "Dead Or Wounded" kicks off the EP in good from, while "Frozen" with its hypnotic chord progression and jagged rhythm patterns create a unique groove that really gets off the grid. Finally, the tribal house tool "Adware Nigga" calls to mind Canadian Hayden Andre Brown's seminal jams from the early '90s, but backed by some L.I.E.S. style analogue techno grunt.

Review: Triptil's dubby swings of minimal techno are growing with noticeable pace, and we're happy to see the artist back into motion on his own Feno Volana imprint this week. "Esimene" kicks off with a 9+ minute voyage across sparse, ambient planes, all of it guided and pushed forwards by a full-bodied beat swing that's not too dissimilar from the sort of material constructed by Villalobos. "Oldiegoldie" kick starts the flipside with a more housey mentality, kickgin and swinging its way through ample hi-hat infusions, while "To The Moon & Back" gives us a rawer, looser sort of groove that would work very well next to STL's material. Crunch-house and beyond!

Having got on incredibly well, they decided to record tracks together under the Ben & Sadar's alias. This debut 12" is something of a treat: a two-track, sample-free romp through heavyweight disco-funk fusion. They begin with killer boogie jam "We Are Righteous People", where jammed-out guitar riffs, wavy saxophone lines and rubbery slap bass lines wrap themselves around an all-action drum machine groove. Flip for the guitar-wielding madness of "Bouncing Atoms", whose Cream style riffs and bluesy solos ride a cowbell-heavy disco groove.

Review: Razor 'N' Tape's two previous servings of Dimitri From Brooklyn edits (and, yes, they're the work of legendary DJ/producer Dimitri From Paris) were both must-haves, so hopes are naturally high for this third volume. Predictably, the disco-loving Frenchman is on fine form once more, laying down a trio of interpretations that breathe new life into classic jams. While the A-side "Kettle America" (say it phonetically) is something of a cheeky treat - impressively chopping between hard-wired guitar riffs and the original track's bustling disco groove - it's "I Knead You", an end-of-night, lights-up version of a Sylvester cut that smartly emphasizes the song's gospel origins, that really sparkles. "Without Rob", a harmonica-heavy rearrangement of a well-known favourite, completes another essential package.

  1. Love Is A Serious Business (7-inch edit) (3:28)
  2. Love Is A Serious Business (12-inch edit) (5:05)
Review: Alfie Davison's "Love is Serious Issue" was famously one of the only records that united both sides of the infamous Northern Soul divide. While the "modern soul" contingent - led, of course, by DJs Ian Levine and Colin Curtis - loved the track's overblown disco production, those still welded to the scene's original sound appreciated the song's driving back track, rousing horns and Davison's impassioned vocal. This timely 7" reissue not only includes the familiar edited version on the A-side, but also the phenomenally hard to find 12" version on the flip. It's this, with its extended instrumental sections and emphasis on the heavy disco-rock groove, which should have you reaching for your wallet.

  1. Deep Inside (7:16)
  2. Another Year (7:18)
Review: Interestingly, it's some 12 years since sometime Cocoon Recordings regular Daniel Stefanik released his first 12" on Moon Harbour. His latest aural assault for that label - the Leipzig producer's first release of 2017, curiously - is headed up by a track that shamelessly pays tribute to Hardrive's 1993 U.S house classic "Deep Inside". Stefanik utilizes ruthlessly chopped and looped samples of the original vocal, layering them over a sweaty, energy-packed rhythm track that's noticeably more riotous than your average tech-house jam. It's something of a restless late night banger, if truth be told. Normal service is resumed on flipside "Another Year", a locked-in roller blessed with some spacey electronic bleeps and a killer bassline.

Review: Last year, Melbourne's Harvey Sutherland signaled his arrival in emphatic fashion with the acclaimed Brothers EP for Voyage Recordings - a sumptuous, soul-flecked EP of boogie-influenced deep house. Here, he continues to impress with a superb double A-side for Dani Plessow's MCDE imprint. "Bermuda" is deliciously warm and summery, with jaunty boogie synths and cascading chords riding a smooth, shuffling deep house groove. "New Paradise" works the same formula hard, with dreamy, held-note chords and bubbly synthesizer melodies wrapping themselves around loose, analogue-sounding percussion and a rich bassline. If there were any doubts about his talents moving forward, this should dispel them. Clearly, Sutherland is here to stay.

Review: Not a lot is known about Garrett besides Music From Memory's description of him/her as a 'mysterious producer out of Los Angeles'. Background information is superfluous when the compositions sparkle and shine as much as this, though... The swooning G-funk subversion of "Sweet Dreams", the hazy jazz sequence of "Angel Reflections", the slo-mo ebb and flow of "Right Noe". Even without Abel, Tiller and Reyenga's spotless seal of approval, this one's a guaranteed keeper.

Review: Billy Woost may not have released much music back in his heyday around 1977, but the one album he did put together was enough to secure a place in the crosshairs of the consummate Italian groove archivists, Best Italy. Picking up the finest jams from Woost's back catalogue, we're presented with a three tracker dripping with classic disco charm. "Body, Body Love" comes in a previously unreleased disco form that cruises at an easy pace but packs plenty of punch, while "Please Touch Me" edges the intensity up with a steamy set of strings, brass and vocals. "Sleep" meanwhile taps into a Blockheads kind of funk, bright and bouncy and just a little left of centre, which of course makes it all the more special.

Taking it back to 1989, Ultimate Force's "I'm Not Playing" catches a young Diamond D in full flow over a looped blues lick. Famed for its appearance on Shadow & Cut Chemist's "Brainfreeze" mix, the original 45 will set you back a hefty sum. As always, flip it over for the original sample source - step up Blues master Albert King's "Cold Feet".

Review: Since launching back in 2015, the Dewaele brothers' Waffles series has been responsible for some of the best re-edits around. The series' genius lies not in the floor-friendly nature of the showcased reworks - that goes without saying - but in the unashamedly weird and wonderful source material the Belgian siblings choose to play around with. Few will know the original version of "Poland Waffle", a sludgy and sleazy mutant disco workout full of heavy, dub disco style bass, hypnotic drums, alien electronics and a half-sung, half-whispered vocal refrain ("Red light... blue light"). As for "Croatia White", you'll struggle to find a more muscular and mind-altering chunk of post-Italo European disco. In other words, this serving of Waffles is every bit as tasty as its predecessors.

Review: Jalepeno Records regular DJ Soopasoul launched his amusingly titled Soopastole Edits series at the tail end of 2016, serving up a tasty seven-inch single that boasted rock solid re-rubs of a couple of party-starting classics. He's at it again on this follow-up. On the A-side, he takes his rusty scalpel to Kool & The Gang's meandering, 1970 instrumental cut "Give It Up", emphasizing the original's killer break and snaking saxophone lines. On the flip he takes a similar approach to reworking Aretha Franklin's peerless "Rock Steady", subtly tightening up the groove whilst emphasizing the bumping nature of the original beats.

Review: According to the information given to us by the label, Attitude is "the first 12" from the forthcoming compilation series What The Fuck Do You Know About Deephouse". Regardless of whether this is actually the case, the three tracks showcased here are superb. Ron Trent is in exceptional form on A-side "Wet", a synth-heavy, head-in-the-clouds chunk of Detroit techno influenced deep house that's as evocative and emotion-rich as we've come to expect from the Prescription co-founder. On the B-side, The IT joins forces with Harry Dennis on the sublime, organic deep house beauty that is vocalist "Months of Mays", before Spaces & Places delivers the breathtakingly picturesque "New Rivers (Part 4)", which boasts a ragged, acid-influenced bassline and some wonderfully breezy piano solos.

USB device that stores licenses for iLok-enabled software
Notes: How does it work and why do I need one:
The iLok is a special USB device that holds your licenses for iLok-enabled software. Software publishers use the iLok to provide secure protection for their software. When you run their iLok-enabled software, it looks for the software license on your attached iLok.

The Third Generation iLok:
Smaller, faster, and with even greater capacity, the new iLok is here! The Third Generation iLok is fully compatible with software created for the second generation iLok. With its smaller form factor and metal body, it is more robust and less prone to casual damage.

iLok Benefits:
- It's portable - you can authorize your software anywhere it is installed. At home, work, or at a remote location, you can keep your software licenses with you, not on your computer.
- It's convenient and cross-platform - Store your Mac and Windows iLok-enabled software licenses all on a single iLok. A Third Generation iLok can hold over 1500 licenses.
- Worry Free - Your licenses are on the safest, most secure solution: the iLok. With Zero Downtime protection available, you've got 24/7 peace of mind.

Managing your licenses has never been so easy. Using the iLok License Manager application, you can:
- View what is on your iLok(s)
- Download new licenses from participating software publishers
- Manage your licenses, including moving them between iLoks within your account and from your iLoks back to your account
- Transfer licenses to other iLok.com accounts

What do I need in order to use my iLok?

In order to use an iLok, you'll need at least 3 things:
- Your iLok
- A license for the iLok-protected software you want to run (you'll need to have the publisher place this license in your account or send you an Activation code)
- The software that is iLok protected (usually a download from the Publisher's or retailer's website, we do not host those on this site)

Anything else?

Your iLok will need special License Support software in order to talk to the protected software. Your protected software most likely installed this special software, but you can always get the latest version of this software by installing the iLok License Manager.

Review: On its initial vinyl and download release late last year, Cherry was proclaimed by critics as being one of Chromatics' strongest albums to date. Given that the Portland band have now released seven acclaimed sets, that's some claim. This first "deluxe" CD edition adds previously unheard cuts and alternative versions, but it's the core set - featured on the first half of the CD - that really sparkles. As you might expect, it's not only full of the atmospheric, slow motion synth-pop with which they made their name, but also a swathe of cuts heavily influenced by the cinematioc soundtrack work Jonny Jewel has been concentrating on since their previous full-length dropped back in 2012. In other words, it's quite possibly Chromatics' most evocative and rounded set to date.

Review: Put your hands together... Serial editor Akshin Alizadeh takes Marlena Shaw's iconic heavily-referenced sample (from the live recording of "Woman Of The Ghetto") and lays it softly over a breath-taking lounge-lurking jazz funk groove. Review: Mystery label Digwah debuted in the summer, with a soul soaked trip into minimal techno territory that was supported by Ricardo Villalobos, amongst others. Like that 12", Something Else is a single-sided, hand-stamped affair, with no information given about the identity of the producer (or producers) involved. This cut retains the late night techno vibe of the original, but with percussion and whizzing electronic noises that recall classic tech-house from the likes of Swag, Rob Mello and David Duriez, rather than Berghain-friendly minimalism. The subtle, party-minded approach is confirmed by the use of cut-up vocal samples from Cuba Gooding Jr's "Happiness Is Just Around The Bend", which also featured on Nightmares On Wax's 1990 bleep techno anthem, "Aftermath".

Review: Colt Music has been in an operation as a label since 2015, although it also functions as a weekly house music night in Madrid. Following releases from Brian Harden, Hamid and Michael Melchner, the next up on the label is Syntax Society, a hitherto unknown artist making their first appearance with this four tracker. "Visions" is a captivating jam that channels the spirit of minimal electro and vintage techno with a nod to the Metamatics style of production, and Markus Sommer does a fine job of remixing the track with a little more Detroitian bite in the programming. "Step One" kicks off the B-side with a tough swinging slice of deep techno, and then "Wires" finishes the EP off with a trip into hi tech jazz for the adventurous heads to delight in.

Review: With its bulging track list and a smattering of tidy remixes, Lootbeg's latest EP is undoubtedly great value for money. As usual, his original productions are on point, with the loose, dreamy and loved-up "The Presence of Time Travellers" - all lolloping, stripped-back machine percussion, liquid synthesizer lines and bustling bass - setting the tone. Luv Jam impressively turns the track into a moody chunk of acid psychedelia, before Lootbeg serves up a ridiculously rush-inducing "DJ FX Tool" built around the original's new age melody line. Over on the B-side, the Leipzig producer dives into deeper waters via the luscious "Abduction Reset" and spacey "Close Encounter Type III". Luv Jam's blissful ambient version of the latter cut completes a brilliant package.
