Review: Whilst it's been some three years since an album from Gui Boratto, the Brazilian has continued to serve up a series of 12"s with the majority of them arriving via regular outlet Kompakt. It's little surprise then to see the storied Cologne institution issue Boratto's latest 12" Take Control with a sole production backed with remixes from artists of a calibre one expects from Kompakt. "Take Control" see Boratto team up with fellow Brazilian duo Come and Hell for a production that's blessed with poppy touches as well as the melodic aspect that's been a hallmark of his work since the Beautiful Life days. Remixes come from Comeme pair DJs Pareja, Danny Daze and Amsterdam newcomers with the effort from Daze the sort of hot wired techno track you could easily envisage his namesake Avery dropping at fabric.

Review: ** REPRESS ** There's been plenty of sightings of Fred P in more techno-led realms of late, but this EP for Mule Musiq reveals some interesting new shades to his production style. "Distant Rain" heads in with a distinct line in grainy, piercing arpeggios well out of the usual soulful haze Fred weaves around his music. There's a Detroit weight to the more rhythmic chords in the track, but really that cosmic techno synth steals the show. "Using Machines" on the other hand is a low slung jazz affair with lightly brushed drums and a gorgeous spread of horns, piano guitar locked into a carefree, summer breeze of a tune.

Review: Mystery producer Post Scriptum appeared from nowhere earlier in the year, pricking the ears of techno heads the world over with the superb "Human Timescales" on Function's Berghain 07 mix. Function is clearly a fan, as he's decided to release the anonymous producer's debut album, Post Scriptum 01, on his Infrastructure imprint. Reviews elsewhere have called it "one of the year's best techno sets", and it's hard to disagree. Largely spooky, clandestine and paranoid, it mixes hypnotic, floor-friendly rhythms with crusty, minimal-style textures and vintage bleeps and electronic melodies. The results are, without fail, thoroughly impressive, with the Drexciyan bubbler "The Extreme Distance" standing out.

Review: Ostgut Ton keep their fires of 2013 well stoked with a new EP from Detroit luminary Edinburgh's most illustrious techno import Rolando who first appeared on the famed German imprint and nightclub with the rare white label 12? 5 To 8 released in late 2010. The D & N's EP marks another release in what's becoming an increasingly impressive year for Ostgut Ton, with a Function LP, Panorama Bar mix from Steffi and numerous 12"s already released. Rolando brings the heat across three tracks that are primed with the sinister funk Detroit-inspired drum sequences tailored made for the residential DJ sets of Herr Dettmann and Fengler.

Review: By their own admission, Optimo Music was a bit quiet in the second half of last year, with the attention of Twitch & co. dedicated to the newly established floor focussed sub-label Optimo Trax. A new year brings renewed focus however, with a swiftly sold out release from Whilst now followed by the label debut of The Twins. To call The Twins mysterious is an understatement; All Optimo Music will reveal is they once resided in Glasgow and count Kompakt regular Superpitcher as a close associate. Indeed, the spectrally charged "Water Coaster" from this amusingly named You've Got A Twin In The Attic (You Lunatic) features mixdown duties from Aksel Superpitcher and there are apparent plans afoot for an album from The Twins on the Hippie Dance label Schaufler runs with Rebolledo.

Review: Mule Musiq boss Toshiya Kawasaki has pulled out all the stops for the sixth installment of the label's popular I'm Starting To Feel Okay compilation series. Whereas previous editions issued on sublabel Endless Flight have been restricted to single CDs and 12" samplers, this sixth round of Okay arrives across a double CD and two double pack vinyl editions. Furthermore it's packed to the rafters with exclusives and unreleased tracks from the label's stable of like-minded deep house producers. As you'd expect, this first part has plenty to enjoy from the hypnotic, Detroit-influenced pulse of Julius Steinhoff's "Downtown" and Axel Boman's woozy, picturesque "Anytime Is Fine" (which seemingly features a riff inspired by an obscure boogie classic), to the sinewy strings and bustling rhythms of Johannes Brecht's "London" and Fred P's typically musical "Electric Bridge". Classier than San Diego bruv.
