Review: The eclectic Canadian superproject New Age Doom are pretty un-pin-downable, with their contributing band members including Bowie Blackstar bandleader Donny McCaslin, and bassist Tim Lefebvre. While their last album was a drone metal epic known as 'Himalayan Dream Techno', their latest is a dub-inflected curveball, dedicated to the mastery over space and atmospherics commanded by the late producer Lee 'Scratch' Perry. Remix The Universe is a compilation of new perspectives on their final collaborative album, 'Lee 'Scratch' Perry's Guide to the Universe'. If ever we needed a spiritual guide for space exploration, Perry would be our go-to; it's evident from this short LP that Perry's influence is felt much further and wider than merely dub music, with gross-genre remixes from the likes of Daryl Palumbo, Quicksand, Tuvaband, Nick Reinhart and Andy Morin all in tow.

Review: 41 years after its original release, it's hard to grasp just how revolutionary the New Age Steppers self-titled debut album was. The brainchild of the Slits' Ari Up and producer Adrian Sherwood, the set brought paired the cream of the post-punk scene (including the Pop Group's Mark Stewart and journalist Vivian Goldman) with a string of experienced dub-wise players to create a set that genuinely took dub and roots reggae in thrilling new directions (think alien noises, industrial sounds, experimental effects and squally guitar textures). Review: Having previously delivered a must-have, quintuple CD retrospective of African Head Charge's influential albums, On-U-Sound has wisely decided to give the same treatment to Slits singer Ari Up and Adrian Sherwood's equally as influential New Age Steppers project - an outfit whose rotating cast of guest musicians included a string of British post-punk greats. Discs one to four showcase, in sequence, the collective's spaced-out, often experimental dub albums released between 1980 and 2012 (The New Age Steppers, Action Battlefield, Foundation Steppers and Love Forever). The fifth and final disc, subtitled Avant Gardening, gathers together rare dubs, unreleased tracks and "version excursions" from the archives. Throw in extensive sleeve notes from Oli Warwick telling the story of the project and you have a nigh on essential boxset.

Review: It has been 26 years since people had their first taste of New Found Glory. Emerging from Coral Springs, Florida, in the height of the pop punk second wave (Stateside at least), back then they were hailed by many as pioneers of a re-energised sound, offering rowdy, speedy, unrelenting and immediately sing-along-worthy anthems by the bucketload, referencing alternative rock and hardcore without putting off anyone eyeing them up for chart targeting marketing campaigns.

Review: The eighth full-length from Floridian pop-punk legends New Found Glory marked their first as a four-piece following the controversial ejection of founding guitarist Steve Klein, and would serve as a creative reappraisal of the band's sonic trajectory at that time. Reverting from the accessible easycore of 2011's Radiosurgery, the follow up Resurrection would land in 2014 with a monumental chug-fest of anthemic breakdowns gelled to the type of earworm pop hooks ghost writers could only dream of penning. Review: Decca is on a mission to remaster and reissue some of the most acclaimed British jazz album there ever have been. The New Jazz Orchestra was a British jazz big band that first formed three years before this sophomore album came out in 1966. Made up of Clive Burrows and directed form 1964 to 1968 by Neil Ardley, Le Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe was their crowning glory. The music draws on pastoral inspirations and ranges from big, uplifting tracks with playful grooves and lively trumpets to more intense and dense jazz cuts. 'Nardis' is a track written by Miel Davis while 'Naima' was written by John Coltrane, helping to make this the standout it is.

Review: It's quite hard to comprehend that such a pivotal album in the history of free jazz has taken this long to be reissued. Originally coming out in 1980, Visions Of The Third Eye is a landmark piece of work which saw the untamed terrain of free jazz being navigated with a certain soulful, spiritual bent which lands differently compared to a lot of other works in the genre. New Life Trio was made up of monumental drummer Steve Reid, guitarist Brandon Ross and bassist David Wertman, and on this record they broke down barriers but never at the expense of the feeling. Now Early Future have faithfully reissued the album with an appropriate level of grandeur, remastered and featuring a 20-page zine with interviews, essays and more.

Review: In one of those unique cases where a compilation eclipses the studio albums, New Order's Substance is often considered the definitive representation of the band in their prime. It's understandable given it pulled together all their singles up to 1987, but equally they re-recorded classics like 'Confusion' and 'Temptation' so everything fitted together more naturally. As a result, Substance is a more cohesive listen than many similar offerings might be and these singles remain some of the finest to ever emerge from the UK's alternative music scene. Repressed and remastered, it's sounding better than ever.

Review: In the midst of a slew of high-end reissues of New Order's classic material (including represses of the singles, no less), here comes a mouth-watering deluxe edition of their 1985 album Low-life. It's always a bold statement to call a release 'definitive' but it's hard to imagine topping this lavish box set with a 180 gram pressing plus a double CD, double DVD and accompanying book. There are full live performances from 1985 in Japan and Belgium, and every possible remix, outtake and demo version you could possibly dream of. And that's not even saying anything about the original album itself - a true totem of 80s synth pop in all its glory.
